    Chapter 15 Taking Medicine

After the doctor took her temperature and found it had spiked to 39°C, Lu Jingtang leaned against the headboard to take her medicine, her fever-flushed face scrunching up at the bitter taste.

Fu Ting also came over to take a look, holding a tray filled with exquisitely packaged chocolates and candies. He placed the tray on the bedside table and, looking uncomfortable, muttered, "Mom asked me to bring these."

Lu Jingtang didn’t call him out on it. She unwrapped an orange-flavored candy and popped it into her mouth, the sweet taste flooding her mouth. She smiled weakly and said, "Thank you, Second Brother."

Fu Ting suddenly felt that this girl wasn’t as annoying as she was in their childhood—at least she wasn’t as dramatic. The straightforward man nodded approvingly, thinking it was a way to repay her kindness from that night.

The doctor hooked her up to an IV and said, "It’s just a common cold, but with the recent rain and snow in City A, this illness might be stubborn. Make sure to keep warm."

Fu Nanyu had a servant escort Dr. Chen out. Ye Xixi sat by the bed watching Lu Jingtang eat porridge, while Fu Xiaqing stood nearby, his tone half scolding, half worried. "Look at you, I saw you sneaking ice milk tea last night. Now you know how it feels to be sick."

With her appetite diminished by illness, Lu Jingtang only managed a few sips of porridge before listlessly shrinking back under the covers. Her eyes were barely open from exhaustion, but she still clung to the edge of the blanket, forcing herself to listen to Fu Xiaqing’s lecturing.

After Fu Nanyu changed her IV drip, he noticed her state and recalled the two times she had hazily called him "brother." She did look rather pitiful.

Fu Nanyu interrupted Fu Xiaqing’s lecturing, "Mom, Dad, she needs to rest. Let’s leave for now."

Ye Xixi and Fu Xiaqing reminded the servants to keep an eye on the IV drip and asked Fu Nanyu, who lived next door, to check on her more often.

The room finally fell silent. Lu Jingtang wasn’t used to sleeping in front of others, and Fu Nanyu seemed to notice. He simply instructed the servant to check on the IV drip every half hour.

Once everyone had left, Lu Jingtang finally relaxed and drifted off to sleep.

Having the family business certainly had its perks—she could skip work whenever she wanted. After returning from Hezhuang, Lu Jingtang was confined at home for a week to recuperate.

On Friday evening, when Fu Nanyu returned, she was squatting in front of the fireplace waiting for Chen Ma to pull roasted sweet potatoes out of the embers. Seeing him enter, she called out in a nasal, muffled voice, "Big Brother."

Fu Nanyu handed his coat to a servant, revealing a black knit sweater underneath. With his coldly handsome features, deep jade-like eyes, broad shoulders, and narrow waist, he resembled a meticulously sculpted marble statue.

Lu Jingtang stared blankly for a moment, utterly dazzled. *Holy cow, my heavens, why are some people in this world blessed with stunning looks and insane wealth?*

She sniffled and, like a suck-up, handed the first roasted sweet potato to Fu Nanyu. "Big Brother, have a sweet potato. It’s really sweet."

Fu Nanyu accepted it without hesitation, his gaze dropping to her reddened nose. "Is your cold still not better?"

Lu Jingtang took a bite of the sweet potato core, huffing and puffing to cool it down. "It’s better, just a bit stuffy."

Fu Nanyu clearly didn’t believe her and said to Chen Ma, "After dinner, have Dr. Chen come over for another check-up."

Though Lu Jingtang dreaded taking medicine, she didn’t dare argue with Fu Nanyu.

When Dr. Chen arrived and prescribed new medication, Lu Jingtang stared at the bag of medicine in contemplation. Fu Nanyu handed her a glass of warm water. "Take your medicine."

With wishful thinking, she tried to hide the medicine behind her in the sofa crevice. "I’ll take it before bed."

Hearing this, Fu Nanyu looked up from his phone, his deep eyes unreadable. To Lu Jingtang, he seemed like a cold-blooded killer silently warning, *If you don’t take it now, what you’ll be taking later won’t be medicine.*

The threat made her hiccup in fright, and she resignedly swallowed the medicine with a grimace.

Just then, Chen Ma entered with a white envelope and handed it to Ye Xixi. Ye Xixi opened it and found an invitation to a gala from an international luxury jewelry brand. Since the brand primarily focused on women’s jewelry, only Ye Xixi and Lu Jingtang were invited.

However, Ye Xixi wasn't planning to attend because she had other plans next week. "But Youyou can go and have some fun. Weren’t you quite fond of that young celebrity named Lu Xiao recently? I heard he’ll be at the gala too."

Lu Jingtang’s eyes lit up. The other two men in the room (besides Fu Nanyu) simultaneously pulled out their phones to look up Lu Xiao.

Fu Xiaqing and Fu Ting huddled together to examine the photos, scrutinizing him with the critical eyes of protective older brothers. Fu Ting remarked insincerely, "Hmph, average. Not that good-looking."

Fu Nanyu set his phone down and sat silently across the room.

No fan would pass up the chance to see Lu Xiao in person. But before she could fully relish the idea, cold water was poured on her excitement. Fu Nanyu expressionlessly took the invitation from her hand. "You’re not even fully recovered yet. Are you planning to demonstrate drip irrigation techniques there?"

Seeing Fu Xiaqing and Fu Ting both nodding in agreement...

Lu Jingtang dejectedly slumped back onto the sofa, glaring resentfully at Fu Nanyu. Ye Xixi couldn’t bear it. "Oh, the gala is still a week away. If she’s better by then, we can go, okay?"

Lu Jingtang turned hopeful eyes toward Fu Nanyu...

Fu Nanyu’s eyebrow twitched. "We’ll see when you’re better."

Sniffling, Lu Jingtang raised both hands solemnly in promise. "I’ll definitely be better, I swear!"
