Chapter 135 Shattered Glass Beads (12)
byChapter 135: Shattered Glass Beads (12)
Having witnessed her mother being driven to death by criminals and then spending a day and a night alone with the corpse, she suffered severe psychological trauma. When she was first brought to the Fu family at the age of three, she couldn't even walk and had to be carried everywhere.
Scared and sad, she would secretly shed tears, but unlike a noisy child, her cries were soft, like a kitten's. Her large, grape-like eyes would well up with tears, making anyone's heart melt.
At their first meeting, Fu Nanyu, though not yet ten but already remarkably composed, couldn't help but frown at the constantly tearful little Lu Jingtang. He assumed she was just another mischievous, whiny child, like his two younger brothers.
In unfamiliar surroundings, little Lu Jingtang often cried, but strangely, whenever Fu Nanyu appeared, she would stop. Her big eyes, brimming with tears, would fix intently on him without a blink.
Ye Xixi, surprised, gently urged him closer, "Nanyu, your little sister seems to like you. Would you like to shake her hand?"
Fu Nanyu hesitated briefly before reaching out and taking the small, soft-looking hand. It was indeed soft and warm, and little Fu Nanyu couldn't help but blush, his ears turning red.
The moment her hand was held, little Lu Jingtang's bright, round eyes filled with confusion. Unexpectedly, the next second, she stretched out both hands to Fu Nanyu, wanting to be held.
The adults were surprised. Ye Xixi said, "Nanyu, your little sister likes you. Why don't you hold her?"
Fu Nanyu didn't immediately agree, his small brow furrowed. Ye Xixi, thinking he was reluctant, softened her voice and asked, "Nanyu, don't you want to hold her? It's perfectly fine if you don't."
Fu Nanyu shook his head, his small face serious. "She's too chubby. I can't hold her; I might make her fall."
"Uh…"
Ye Xixi and Chen Ma stifled their laughter, explaining for Lu Jingtang, "She's not chubby; that's just baby fat."
Fu Nanyu remained silent, his gaze returning to the little one in Ye Xixi's arms. Lu Jingtang, sensing his reluctance to hold her, sadly lowered her small head. Her two little braids, one pointing up and the other down, looked both comical and cute. She twisted her chubby little fingers, her chest rising and falling with her breath, whimpering softly, as if on the verge of a full-blown cry.
Little Fu Nanyu sighed softly and sat down beside her, saying, "Don't cry. I'll just sit here with you."
Lu Jingtang's eyes brightened, and she indeed stopped crying.
Unexpectedly, that one sentence was all it took for Lu Jingtang to become utterly devoted to him, following him like a shadow all day. If Fu Nanyu left even for a moment to use the bathroom, her round eyes would well up with huge tears the moment he returned. By the end of the day, Fu Nanyu hadn't made much progress on his homework, but his skill at wiping away tears had become masterful.
She even refused to be separated from Fu Nanyu at night. Ye Xixi felt apologetic towards her son but still tried to discuss with Fu Nanyu, asking him to sleep with his little sister for a while.
Fu Nanyu agreed. He knew Lu Jingtang was unwell and needed care.
He just hadn't expected that, besides staring at people, Lu Jingtang also had a habit of not sleeping at night.
Seeing her constantly gazing at the moon, Fu Nanyu thought she wanted to look at it, so he carried her downstairs to the flower bed in the yard. The young boy wasn't very tall, and carrying a little chubby bundle was inevitably strenuous. He carried Lu Jingtang in circles around the flower bed, taking a break every few rounds, and only returned after she had fallen asleep.
The family didn't know about this until Fu Nanyu started dozing off frequently in class, and his teacher contacted his parents. Only then did Ye Xixi and Fu Xiaqing find out.
In her first year at the Fu family, Lu Jingtang never spoke a word. Until one day, as Fu Nanyu was carrying her around the yard, he suddenly heard soft sobs from behind him and felt a warm wetness on his neck. For the first time, he heard Lu Jingtang's voice. She asked, "Brother, why aren't Mom and Dad coming to get me?"
Fu Nanyu's eyes filled with sadness. He knew Lu Jingtang's parents would never come for her.
At that moment, he promised, "It's okay. Mom and Dad told me to bring you home. No matter where you go in the future, I will always come to bring you home."
Perhaps from that moment on, Fu Nanyu understood that he couldn't avoid or escape it.
Love is irrational.
Lu Jingtang was an indispensable part of him.
Chris is a system, something beyond human comprehension, possessing immortality. His human form is incredibly lifelike, even replicating something as vital to the human body as blood.
The chopstick was deeply embedded. Chris pushed Lu Jingtang's hand away and expressionlessly yanked the chopstick from his throat. Blood sprayed out.
He saw Lu Jingtang tilt her head slightly, as if disgusted by him and unwilling to be touched by anything of his. But it was useless—half her face was stained with blood. She frowned in disgust.
Chris looked at her and said calmly, "It's no use. I can't die."
Lu Jingtang lay on the ground, clearly a complete mess with only one hand still functional, yet the look in her round eyes remained stubborn and unyielding. She stared at Chris and said, "So killing you once doesn't work? Fine. Then a hundred times, a thousand times, ten thousand times… until I kill you."
"Let me tell you, I am Lu Jingtang. Whether Fu Nanyu loves me or not, I am still myself. I have parents who loved me most in the world, a grandmother who was so warm and loved me so much, a doting uncle, and Uncle Fu and Aunt Ye who also love me… Even if no one in the world loves me, I will always love myself."
"No matter how you try to brainwash me, it’s useless. I will never doubt myself. The ones who should die and disappear from this world are you, not me!"
