Chapter 142 Two Pearls (Baby Arc 3)
byChapter 142: Two Pearls (Baby Bonus Chapter 3)
When Lu Jingtang was six months pregnant, Fu Nanyu had to go to Los Angeles for a two-week business trip. Her physical condition made a long, arduous journey impossible, so Fu Nanyu had to go alone.
It was 10 p.m. in Los Angeles, and Fu Nanyu was still at a banquet. While others raised their glasses, laughing and chatting about stock market fluctuations, he quietly slipped away to the terrace.
On his phone screen, Lu Jingtang, supporting her heavily pregnant belly, waddled slowly like a little penguin, her bare feet sinking into the soft plush carpet.
Lu Jingtang had likely just woken from a nap; her almond eyes were still hazy with sleep, and her voice was thick. She rubbed her eyes and murmured, "I’m still so sleepy."
A faint smile touched Fu Nanyu’s eyes. "Why not go back to sleep?" he asked.
Lu Jingtang’s eyes darted around before she pouted. "Chen Ma cooked some meat. I want to eat a little before sleeping."
Fu Nanyu knew she missed him and was using the meat as an excuse.
Before his trip, Lu Jingtang had confidently declared she would be fine—as the wealthiest little deer in the world, she had to be.
Yet, she was still susceptible to pregnancy hormones, unable to resist longing for the warmth of her nest.
They video-called every day, but the previous night, Lu Jingtang had accidentally fallen asleep early and missed their call. She had felt disappointed and upset all morning, holding out until now to finally call him.
"Brother, why do you look thinner?" Lu Jingtang gazed at him with longing.
Hearing his beloved’s familiar voice, the fatigue from his relentless work dissipated. Fu Nanyu’s eyes softened. "I want to come back early to fatten up my little pig."
Lu Jingtang playfully raised a small fist. "When you come back, I’ll punch you."
Fu Nanyu’s lips curved slightly. "Go ahead. All three of you can punch me if you want."
The separation affected more than just Lu Jingtang. Those who had experienced nightmares always worried about anything that carried risk.
The two exchanged a stream of affectionate, meaningless chatter for nearly twenty minutes before reluctantly ending the call.
Fu Nanyu didn’t return to the banquet hall immediately, instead staying on the terrace a while longer, enjoying the breeze.
Suddenly, the click of high heels on the floor echoed from behind him. A Chinese woman in a V-neck burgundy gown approached, holding a wine glass.
Lisa composed her nervous heart and offered an elegant, composed smile. "Mr. Fu, I’m Lisa from Yuanxing Venture Capital. I’m not sure if you remember me."
Fu Nanyu’s gaze briefly rested on her before shifting away. Though he had no recollection of her, he politely nodded without saying so.
*He remembers me*, Lisa thought, her heart racing as she clenched her hands nervously.
A few days earlier, at an international finance exchange, Lisa had faced subtle and overt disrespect due to her gender. Some had mocked that women were naturally unsuited for the finance industry, claiming they were too emotional while men were inherently rational.
Lisa had wanted to throw her drink at them but, constrained by her lower status, could only force a smile.
She remembered that scene vividly—everyone laughing, a chilling reminder that no matter how hard women worked, they still couldn’t earn fair treatment.
Only Fu Nanyu had spoken up to defend her.
Just as Lisa mustered the courage to say something, the host of the banquet, and her boss, Qiao Yansheng, suddenly appeared. Seeing the two of them alone on the terrace, his expression turned suggestive. "You two…"
Fu Nanyu’s expression remained neutral. "I was taking a call from my wife."
Qiao Yansheng immediately stopped. If Fu Nanyu had been interested, he might have played matchmaker, but since Fu Nanyu openly mentioned his wife, it would be tactless to push further.
Lisa felt awkward and offered to leave, giving Fu Nanyu and Qiao Yansheng space.
What a shame—she had hoped to seize the opportunity to discuss finance with Fu Nanyu. One day, she wanted to become someone just as remarkable, to shut up all those gossips who claimed women couldn't do this or that.
After she left, Qiao Yansheng laughed. "President Fu, you’re not very gallant. Making friends wouldn’t hurt."
Fu Nanyu smiled faintly and shook his head, offering no further explanation.
Infidelity isn’t limited to physical affairs. When you’re in a place your partner can’t see, facing someone of the opposite sex who might be interested in you, or allowing others to joke about the two of you, telling yourself it’s just normal interaction—indulging in ambiguous non-rejection and non-denial, treating it as a temporary escape from marital routine, then secretly erasing all traces and hiding it under the guise of sparing your partner’s worries—that is infidelity.
In truth, the moment you place another person on the same level as your partner for comparison, you’ve already crossed a line. Even if you merely find the breeze beside that person more comforting than your partner’s warm hand, it’s a form of hidden betrayal.
He would never cheat, nor did he have any interest in doing so.
When the first snow of winter arrived, their babies entered the world—two fair, delicate little girls.
The Fu family hadn’t had a girl in generations. When Grandpa Fu heard they were girls—and twins, at that—he was so delighted he thwacked Fu Nanyu’s back twice with his cane. "You rascal, you did good!"
Fu Nanyu, already pale with anxiety, choked and coughed several times from the blows.
When the nurses wheeled Lu Jingtang out, he rushed over. Lu Jingtang’s face was still pale, her eyes half-closed with exhaustion.
Fu Nanyu’s breath trembled as he gently brushed away the damp strands of hair sticking to her cheeks.
Lu Jingtang felt his nose nuzzle against hers again and again, warm tears slipping into the corners of her eyes. She heard his whisper, soft as a mosquito’s hum, in her ear: "Lu Jingtang… I pray that you will always love me."
In this world, Fu Nanyu would always protect Lu Jingtang, always treat her well, always love her most.
And so, Lu Jingtang would always love Fu Nanyu, never leaving him.
Exhausted, Lu Jingtang mustered her last bit of strength to link her pinky finger with his. "Deal."
