Chapter 103 Evil Plan
byChapter 103: The Wicked Scheme
David and Panda were thrilled; it was their first time being allowed into Fu Nanyu's room, usually off-limits under the watchful eyes of the servants.
Little did they know, every gift from fate comes with a price.
Initially, they cautiously sniffed around, treading lightly. When one accidentally knocked over an ornament with a clatter, they nervously glanced at Fu Nanyu. Seeing he wasn't angry but smiling, as if saying, "Well done," they were emboldened.
Encouraged, the goofy dogs immediately unleashed their wild side—scratching at cabinets, dragging out their contents, leaping on and off the bed, sending dog hair flying, and causing objects to crash loudly to the floor.
Downstairs, the servants heard the commotion, wondering about the source of the noise.
Lu Jingtang couldn't bear to watch any longer and tried to sneak away, but she was caught red-handed. As she was about to step out the door, Fu Nanyu, elegantly sipping his coffee, remarked coolly, "Some people claim to adore me, but at the first sign of trouble, they're eager to fly solo."
Lu Jingtang chuckled, offering an excuse: "Of course not! I was just going to keep watch for you. I'm nothing if not loyal."
Fu Nanyu set down his coffee cup, walked over, and playfully pinched the back of her neck. "Don't even think about running."
Once the room was sufficiently chaotic, Fu Nanyu, just as he had with Lu Jingtang, grabbed David and Panda by the scruffs of their necks and ushered them into the bathroom. After a few pitiful yelps, the two dogs burst out, soaking wet.
Fu Nanyu didn't stop them. He strolled out of the bathroom leisurely, looking as relaxed as if he had just closed a multi-million-dollar deal.
It was just too... too wicked.
When Fu Xiaqing heard about David and Panda's antics in Fu Nanyu's room, he found it peculiar. David and Panda usually feared Fu Nanyu the most; why would they suddenly invade his space?
He went upstairs to witness the aftermath. Servants were cleaning up the mess, and Ye Xixi was there too. The two dogs, still damp, rubbed against her legs, whimpering pitifully as if they had suffered some grave injustice.
Ye Xixi couldn't bring herself to scold them harshly, only gently patting their bottoms. "Alright, alright, no more causing trouble in your brother's room from now on."
David and Panda whimpered again, casting a glance at Fu Nanyu. This cruel world truly bullies dogs because they can't speak.
Fu Xiaqing spoke up, "That doesn't make sense. They're usually so well-behaved. They've never caused trouble in anyone else's room—why only in yours?"
He then glanced at Lu Jingtang, who was trying to blend into the background. Her heart pounded in her throat. She blinked, nervously picking at the wall with her fingers. "Perhaps it's their first time in Big Brother's room, and they got too excited?"
Fu Xiaqing asked skeptically, "Is that so?"
Fu Nanyu leaned casually against the counter, delivering his lines with natural ease. "They're usually so well-behaved. I'd like to know why too."
His tone was that of a genuine victim. If Lu Jingtang hadn't been in on the plan, she would have believed him.
Fu Xiaqing remained suspicious, feeling something was amiss but unable to pinpoint it.
Almost everything in Fu Nanyu's room had to be replaced. Lu Jingtang felt a pang of guilt and suggested that perhaps they shouldn't do "that kind of thing" at home anymore.
Unwilling to concede, Fu Nanyu calmly replied, "Then let's book a hotel room."
Lu Jingtang opened her mouth, blinked a few times, and finally, unable to come up with a retort for his sudden, startling remarks, she let out a cold "hmph," turned, and stomped away in her slippers.
Fu Nanyu: "..."
The exposure of their relationship didn't significantly impact Lu Jingtang. She continued to commute with Fu Nanyu daily. Or rather, any major issues were resolved by Fu Nanyu before they even reached her ears.
What comforted her most was that her colleagues' attitudes hadn't changed much.
Although unfamiliar colleagues occasionally peeked at her from outside, she knew they meant no harm—they were just curious.
One afternoon, while she was drowsily slacking off at work, her phone suddenly rang, startling her so much she nearly dropped it.
It was an unknown number. Lu Jingtang wasn't fond of answering calls, especially from numbers she didn't recognize, so she hung up immediately.
But the caller persisted—hang up, call again, hang up again, call again. Worried it might be something important, she finally answered.
"Hello, who is this?" Lu Jingtang asked politely.
No one spoke on the other end. Lu Jingtang asked again, "Hello, can you hear me?"
Still no response, but she could hear the person's uneven breathing. Someone was there.
A prank call?
Hearing her voice, Xie Qinghe tightened his grip on the phone, unsure what to say but unwilling to hang up.
He held the phone with one hand while loosening his tie with the other, leaning back on the sofa. He reeked of alcohol, his eyes bloodshot.
"If there's nothing, I'm hanging up," Lu Jingtang said, puzzled.
Xie Qinghe felt a wave of bitterness. Hearing her voice only intensified his regret. He couldn't help thinking that if he had seized the opportunity when they first met, maybe Lu Jingtang wouldn't have turned to someone else.
Panicked at the thought of her hanging up, Xie Qinghe tried to speak, to let her know it was him, to say something—anything. But as soon as he opened his mouth, the nausea from his hangover surged up his throat. He retched a few times, and his finger accidentally hit the screen, ending the call.
Lu Jingtang: "???"
The sound coming through the phone was unclear, but just before the call disconnected, Lu Jingtang thought she heard something like a pig's grunt?
It was time for a meeting. Lin Yixiao leaned over and asked, "Who was that?"
Lu Jingtang looked blankly at her phone and said uncertainly, "I think... it was a pig calling me?"
Lin Yixiao: "? Your enemy?"
Lu Jingtang shook her head. "No, I mean a real pig. Like, an actual pig called me."
Lin Yixiao: "...Wow. Are you sleep-deprived, or am I going crazy?"
Before they could settle the pig debate, Minister Zhou urged everyone to start the meeting. Lu Jingtang silenced her phone and entered the conference room.
After vomiting, Xie Qinghe realized the call had been disconnected. He immediately called back, but this time, no one answered.
He dialed over a dozen times with no response, his frustration and anger boiling over. He hurled his phone across the room, his eyes bloodshot, chest heaving with ragged breaths.
Suddenly, an idea struck him. Ignoring the shattered phone, he grabbed his car keys and headed out.
Lu Jingtang might not want to talk to him now, but one day, he would make her come to him willingly.
