Chapter 79 Horny Yet Clueless
byChapter 79: Horny Yet Clueless
Perhaps sensing her need for a moment to recover from the awkwardness, Fu Nanyu didn't call back immediately.
Half an hour later, once the flush had receded from Lu Jingtang's cheeks and she felt composed, she mustered the courage to call him back.
The video call took a few seconds to connect, and this time it was Lu Jingtang who was taken aback. On the other end, Fu Nanyu's shirt was completely unbuttoned, revealing his bare chest with taut, well-defined abdominal muscles.
Fu Nanyu's narrow, dark eyes lifted, meeting Lu Jingtang's gaze through the screen, a hint of amusement dancing within them. He unhurriedly removed his tie, his voice a little hoarse:
"Lu Jingtang, you can't stand to be at a disadvantage, can you?"
Lu Jingtang's face burned crimson as she stared wide-eyed at his abs, offering a weak, unconvincing defense: "I... I wasn't."
Fu Nanyu chuckled softly, then turned away as if no one else were present, shrugging off his shirt completely. The sculpted lines of his shoulders and back were fully exposed, every muscle seemingly aware of how to flex and relax with his movements in the most alluring way.
When he turned back, Lu Jingtang audibly gulped, then preemptively accused him, "Big brother, isn't it a bit inappropriate to undress while I'm still here?"
Fu Nanyu, immune to her attempt at guilt-tripping, looked at her with a knowing smile. "You could always hang up the video call."
Lu Jingtang, realizing she was on shaky ground, decided to sidestep the suggestive topic and switched to one that sounded even more artless. "Big brother, are you undressing to take a shower?"
Fu Nanyu glanced at her. "No, I'm just a little warm."
Lu Jingtang's mind momentarily stalled. "Is there a power outage at your place?" Why not just turn on the air conditioning if he was hot?
Hearing this, Fu Nanyu let out an enigmatic chuckle, his voice deep and pleasant. "Lu Jingtang, why do you think I'm warm?"
"..." Lu Jingtang scratched her now-reddened cheeks and mumbled, "Big brother, you need to calm down."
Fu Nanyu looked at her and said, "Sorry, I'm almost thirty, and it's not easy for me to finally fall for someone. It's inevitable that my reactions are a bit intense."
She had never been enveloped by such direct affection before; her heart melted into a soft mess. She could only try to hide her face behind a plush toy, leaving only her sparkling eyes visible.
Lu Jingtang had fair skin, and when she blushed, it showed clearly—turning pink and red all over. Despite her obvious shyness, her eyes sparkled brightly as she gazed at him.
Fu Nanyu looked at the screen, his tone a mix of helplessness and indulgence, like someone doting on a beloved pet. "You're such a horny yet clueless dummy."
Only absolute directness and unconditional love could truly get through to her.
Lu Jingtang stammered, "I-I'm not being horny! You're the one who took off your clothes. I was just... reluctantly looking."
Fu Nanyu's eyes softened, a faint, knowing smile playing on his lips as he enticed her, "If you make things official now, I'll take off the rest for you."
Lu Jingtang swallowed hard, holding firm to her principles. "No need, it's not like there's much to see anyway."
"Not much to see?" Fu Nanyu repeated slowly, word by word. "Alright, I hope you'll still think so in the future."
Lu Jingtang opened her mouth but closed it again, unable to find a retort. She couldn't out-flirt him—how utterly miserable.
Putting on a deliberately serious face, Lu Jingtang said, "Big brother, you should put your clothes back on. Be careful not to catch a cold."
Although Fu Nanyu obediently put on a house shirt, he couldn't resist adding, "Don't worry. If you plan to live to 99, I'll make sure to take care of you until you're 99 and one day."
Most people would recognize this as flirting, but Lu Jingtang, true to form, replied earnestly, "Wait, that doesn't sound right. You're six years older than me. If you only live to 99 and one day, wouldn't you be long gone by the time I turn 99?"
Fu Nanyu was momentarily speechless, his flirtatious mood completely deflated.
They chatted a while longer, with Lu Jingtang chattering on and on about her day and complaining about how mean and bullying the male photographer had been.
Fu Nanyu didn't seem impatient or dismissive. Instead, he advised her, "You did the right thing. Not only by helping others, but also by learning to discern people's intentions when you're out in the world. Sometimes, treating others with kindness doesn't guarantee they'll treat you with sincerity in return."
Lu Jingtang clenched her fist. "I understand."
They ended the call when Chen Ma came upstairs to call Fu Nanyu for dinner.
Just then, Jiang Cheng and Ji Ruyan returned, helping each other walk. From her spot on the second-floor balcony, Lu Jingtang saw them talking downstairs.
Her eyes immediately widened, wishing she could lean in close enough to eavesdrop on their conversation.
Perhaps Lu Jingtang’s jinx had indeed come true—the next day, Fu Nanyu woke up sneezing, showing the first signs of a cold.
Even Ye Xixi was surprised. Fu Nanyu was usually in excellent health, rarely falling ill throughout the year. How could he catch a cold in such mild weather?
Ye Xixi had someone prepare him cold medicine as a precaution. Fu Nanyu took it after dinner and left for work.
As he stepped out the door, he sneezed again. Had Lu Jingtang’s words actually come true?
Fu Nanyu fell into thought. Qin Xianzhao, driving ahead, occasionally glanced at him through the rearview mirror.
Then, Fu Nanyu spoke up, "Assistant Qin, do you think a six-year age gap is significant?"
