Chapter 128 Shattered Glass Beads (4)
byChapter 128: Broken Glass Marbles (4)
The conference room was hushed. The presenter’s voice grew increasingly faint as the Big Boss sat with a stern expression, his brows slightly furrowed, clearly displeased with the proposal. The subordinates were so intimidated they didn't dare make even the slightest sound while turning pages.
Only the assistant standing behind Fu Nanyu knew the truth—he was actually checking his phone. Seeing no new messages, Fu Nanyu switched to Shang Qingyang’s WeChat and sent a simple period.
In less than half a minute, Assistant Shang sent back a video a few minutes long. Fu Nanyu watched it without a hint of anger, then slipped his phone back into his pocket and resumed the meeting.
By the time the meeting concluded, the number of employees from the company’s security supervision department who were dismissed and sent back to Hezhuang surpassed the length of the meter-long candied hawthorn sticks sold downstairs. While Grandpa Fu was the primary decision-maker who allowed Ji Yunyin to casually use the exclusive elevator to the top floor, and the staff could only comply, both Grandpa Fu and Fu Nanyu were independent individuals. Even if Grandpa Fu would never intentionally harm him, it didn't mean Fu Nanyu had to blindly accept everything the old man did. Since these employees treated the old master’s commands as gospel, it was only fitting to send them back to serve him—it was for their own good, after all.
Fu Nanyu pushed open his office door and immediately saw Ji Yunyin seated on the sofa near the entrance. His gaze didn't linger on her, nor did he show any surprise at her presence. It was as if she were an insignificant object rather than a person. In just a second, his attention shifted to the figure behind the office desk.
Lu Jingtang had recently become obsessed with a gacha game, but her luck seemed abysmal. After drawing over a hundred cards, she still hadn’t gotten the one she wanted. Her brows were furrowed, and her cheeks puffed out like a squashed steamed bun.
Hearing footsteps, she didn't look up but reached out a hand to grasp Fu Nanyu’s. Her fingers traced from his wrist bone to the prominently raised veins on the back of his hand. Their hands intertwined, one rough and one delicate, looking perfectly matched.
Fu Nanyu caught her restless hand, interlacing their fingers. He glanced down at her tablet and mercilessly teased, “Your luck’s truly awful.” Yet, amusement flickered in his deep eyes.
Ji Yunyin stared fixedly at their joined hands, overwhelmed by a mix of envy, jealousy, and resentment. She felt utterly deceived.
However, her system informed her that this was due to a bug in the world—Fu Nanyu’s destiny wasn't meant to be with Lu Jingtang. They were inherently incompatible. Her intervention was merely restoring the world to its original state.
In a fit of pique, Lu Jingtang decided to switch to Fu Nanyu’s card for payments, intending to bankrupt him with ten-yuan card draws.
Fu Nanyu said calmly, “Li Chen asked me to treat him to a meal yesterday. I’m a bit short on cash right now, so I used your card to pay.”
Lu Jingtang’s eyes widened. She opened her mouth but ended up angrily changing the number of draws from ten to twenty.
Fu Nanyu let out a soft, almost imperceptible chuckle. Their hands remained clasped the entire time.
As if only just noticing the other person in the room, Fu Nanyu lifted his gaze and asked indifferently, “Miss Ji, is there something you need?”
Ji Yunyin felt like an intruder on someone else’s happiness, a lump in her throat. But for the sake of her goals, she had to press on—there was no turning back now. Struggling to conceal the tremor in her voice, she said, “It’s Grandpa Fu. He asked me to intern at Fu Corporation, and he said Mr. Fu would arrange it for me.”
“Understood,” Fu Nanyu replied flatly. “HR will handle it. You may leave.” His tone was as dismissive as if he were addressing an ordinary employee, which was infuriating.
What confused Ji Yunyin even more was Lu Jingtang’s reaction. She and Fu Nanyu were clearly in a relationship, yet she showed no concern while another woman—an obvious rival—spoke with her boyfriend, still engrossed in her tablet.
With no further reason to stay, Ji Yunyin had no choice but to leave.
Alone in the office, Fu Nanyu gazed intently at Lu Jingtang. When she showed no reaction, he suddenly recalled the saying that possession is an expression of love. His gaze grew more intense as he reached out to playfully pinch her soft earlobe.
Lu Jingtang lifted her head to look at Fu Nanyu, her cheeks still puffed. “She’s gone. Do you think she’ll understand now?”
Fu Nanyu asked, “Aren’t you angry?”
She removed his hand, tilting her head in confusion. “Angry about what?”
“Jealous?”
“A little, but not exactly angry.” Lu Jingtang refused to think too ill of others. “If she didn’t know about our relationship, it’s understandable that she might develop feelings. There’s nothing shameful about a girl liking an exceptional guy and bravely pursuing love—as long as he’s single. Now that she knows we’re together, if she still tries anything, then she’s a super villain.”
Fu Nanyu smiled faintly, looking down at her. He asked knowingly, “What kind of relationship do we have?”
Lu Jingtang slapped the back of his hand. “Don’t change the subject.”
Fu Nanyu shrugged. “Understood.”
Lu Jingtang stood up, widening her eyes and placing her hands on her hips in a warning. “And you—if you ever let someone else tempt you, that’s on you. I might be sad, but I’d never doubt myself. It would be your fault, not mine.”
Fu Nanyu watched her, his eyes filled with deep tenderness and clear pride. He leaned down and gently kissed the corner of her lips, speaking slowly, as if making a vow: “You will always have me.”
