Chapter 93: Time to Slim Down

The word "wife" sent a jolt through Lu Jingtang, leaving her flustered and unsure how to react, as if she'd never encountered such a situation before.

Fu Nanyu had many endearments for her—Lu Youyou, Jingtang, Youyou, Tangtang, baby... The choice depended entirely on the moment. But "wife" was a first.

Unable to bear such a saccharine Fu Nanyu, her cheeks flushed crimson as she blurted, "I can't stand you!" Then she turned and fled, abandoning the dog.

Fu Nanyu chased after her, calling out, "Wife, aren't you taking the dog!?"

    "No! It's yours now."

Fu Nanyu chuckled softly, watching her hasty retreat, then turned to open the car door. The two dogs remained rooted to the spot, looking utterly bewildered.

Fu Nanyu cast a cold, indifferent glance at them. "Time to slim down."

    David/Panda: ???

A fortnight later, at noon, Fu Nanyu was tied up with business and couldn't return. Coincidentally, Lu Jingtang wanted to grab malatang outside the company with Lin Yixiao, so she told him not to order lunch for her.

After lunch, with Fu Nanyu absent, she hadn't planned on heading to the top floor for a nap—lying alone seemed rather dull. But then she realized her earphones were missing, so, she decided she had to go upstairs after all.

Strangely, the executive suite was completely deserted today. Usually, at least one person remained to answer calls from business partners. But today, not a soul was in sight—it was eerily quiet.

She didn't dwell on it, assuming they might have stepped out for a restroom break. However, as she pushed open the door to the CEO's office, she saw Grandpa Fu standing at the lounge entrance, his expression grim as he peered inside. Beside him stood his bodyguard and Assistant Shang, who wore a distinctly guilty look.

Lu Jingtang felt as if her world had just caved in.

Grandpa Fu must have been a bell-ringer in a past life; how else could he always appear precisely when Fu Nanyu was away?

She forced a stiff smile. "G-Grandpa, hello."

Grandpa Fu gave a curt nod. With just a look, the bodyguard and Shang Qing discreetly withdrew, leaving the two of them alone.

"Have a seat," Grandpa Fu said, leaning on his cane as he settled onto the sofa, gesturing for her to sit as well. It seemed he was preparing for a heart-to-heart.

Lu Jingtang obediently sat down. Since Grandpa Fu remained silent, she kept quiet too, though she yearned to check her phone several times but deemed it impolite.

Grandpa Fu closed his eyes for a moment, then said thoughtfully, "Nanyu has been exceptionally talented since childhood. Among the prominent families, he is the most qualified heir. He carries the weight of the entire family's prosperity. Being immersed in romance is detrimental to him—do you understand?"

Lu Jingtang lowered her gaze, pondering for a moment. She seemed genuinely puzzled as she replied, "Are you saying Big Brother won't marry in the future?"

Getting married requires dating; how can one avoid romance unless they're a monk?

Grandpa Fu was momentarily speechless. "Of course, he will marry eventually. What I'm telling you is that the two of you are not suitable. Your presence will only distract him. Your uncle isn't skilled in managing the company, and I have raised Big Brother since he was young. He is the family’s pride. I know better than anyone what kind of marriage and what kind of person is suitable for him."

He expected his bluntness to at least make Lu Jingtang uneasy or upset, but it didn't.

Lu Jingtang's gaze remained calm. She scratched her head thoughtfully, finding Grandpa Fu's reasoning somewhat illogical. They didn't even work on the same floor—how could she distract him?

But as a junior, it wasn't appropriate to argue too much with an elder, so she simply lowered her head and remained silent. "Uh..."

Grandpa Fu looked at her and continued, "You came to the Fu family when you were three and grew up with the three brothers. The Fu family has never treated you unfairly. Your uncle and aunt treat you like their own daughter. Right now, you two are deeply in love and inseparable, but have you considered what will happen if one day the love fades? How will you face your parents when you return home together?"

The last sentence was like a stone thrown into a calm lake, stirring up turmoil. Lu Jingtang's fingertips trembled slightly. After a moment, she gathered her courage and looked firmly at the person across from her.

"I've thought about this question since the beginning of our relationship. But one can't avoid eating for fear of choking. If I were to hesitate now and push him away under the pretense of doing what's best for him, that would truly be unfair to him. To me, loving someone means first wishing for their happiness. Sharing their pain and tears is also a part of love. But if I leave him and he loses that happiness, what would be the point of my departure?"

Grandpa Fu was taken aback, as if he hadn't expected such a response. He pursed his lips, unsure how to continue his role as the match-breaker. In the end, he could only say dryly, "I've already decided who Nanyu will marry. I would never harm him."

As she sat, Lu Jingtang began to feel a soreness in her back. She couldn't help but lean casually, almost slouching, against the armrest of the sofa. "I understand. You just want to repay a kindness and have Big Brother marry Miss Ji, right?"

Grandpa Fu snorted, neither confirming nor denying it.

Lu Jingtang continued, "If you think Big Brother and I are unsuitable, then tell me—what benefits would there be if Big Brother married Ji Yunyin?"

"This..." Grandpa Fu's eyes widened. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. He... he really couldn't think of any. If Fu Nanyu married Ji Yunyin, the Ji family wouldn't be able to offer any support to the Fu Corporation. In fact, they might even become a drain on resources. There were no real benefits, and forcing the issue would only create a rift between his eldest grandson and himself.

"I understand you want to repay a kindness, but marriage isn't the only way. You could easily find a more suitable match for Miss Ji—you certainly have the means. Forcing Big Brother to marry her brings no benefits and only makes everyone unhappy. Why bother?" Although Lu Jingtang's words had a touch of persuasion, they were also sincere.

The Fu family didn't need Fu Nanyu to marry for business alliances to strengthen the company. So, rather than marrying someone who offers no support and isn't loved, why not marry someone who may not offer support but can bring happiness?

Grandpa Fu considered what she said and found it surprisingly reasonable. Over the past two years, every time he brought up marriage with Fu Nanyu, it ended in disagreement, and even Fu Ting and Fu Shengzhou had stopped visiting him as much because of it.

Besides, Ji Yunyin herself had said she no longer liked Nanyu. Perhaps it was better to just let it go... He didn't know what was wrong with himself. Every time Ji Yunyin mentioned marriage in front of him, he would act impulsively, storming off to pick a fight with Fu Nanyu...

Today was no different. Ji Yunyin had come to He Manor to have lunch with him and his wife, mentioning how intimate Lu Jingtang and Fu Nanyu had been at the bar. Ji Yunyin said she wished Nanyu well and advised him to drop the marriage matter. But when he saw Ji Yunyin's downcast look, he couldn't help but feel compelled to stir up drama.
