Chapter 19 Concern
byChapter 19: Concern
After the banquet, Lu Jingtang was about to get into her car when someone suddenly darted out and blocked the door.
It was Qi Yao, who had also attended the banquet.
Qi Yao aggressively approached her, "Lu Jingtang, you haven't forgotten your promise to take me for beauty treatments, have you?"
Lu Jingtang: "No..."
Qi Yao snorted, "Good, then it's settled for this weekend. Add me on WeChat." She pulled out her phone, insisting Lu Jingtang add her.
After that, unable to resist, she pinched Lu Jingtang’s chubby cheek—so smooth and soft.
Then, like a rogue, she touched her and walked away.
The next day, Lu Jingtang flew back to the imperial capital. Before leaving, she took out the gift she had picked for Fu Shengzhou—a watch.
Fu Shengzhou was rarely taken aback; this girl never usually thought to bring gifts for others. Even the birthday gifts for him and his brothers were only prepared to keep up appearances in front of their eldest brother.
Lu Jingtang lowered her head as she organized her suitcase, "Well? It suits you, right?"
Fu Shengzhou opened the box and saw a silver diamond watch that suited him perfectly. He then glanced at the gifts she had chosen for the others: a pair of matching rings for Fu Xiaqing and his wife, a watch for Fu Ting—a style that would appeal to someone with discerning taste—and for Fu Nanyu, not a watch, but a pair of sapphire cufflinks.
She had clearly chosen each gift according to the individual’s style, showing the gift-giver's thoughtfulness.
Fu Shengzhou said stiffly, "It's alright."
After she finished packing, Fu Shengzhou took her suitcase and carried it downstairs to put it in the trunk. "Let's go."
Lu Jingtang was surprised, then smiled with curved eyes, "Little brother, don't you have class today? Did you come specifically to see me off?"
Fu Shengzhou grew angry from embarrassment, "In your dreams! I just didn't feel like going to class today, okay? Are you coming or not?"
Lu Jingtang didn’t press further, "Alright, alright, let's go. Young people shouldn't be so impatient."
When they arrived at the airport, the flight was delayed, and she would have to wait another hour before boarding. Lu Jingtang noticed Fu Shengzhou checking his watch and said, "If you have something to do at school, you can go ahead. I can board soon."
Fu Shengzhou did have matters to attend to at school, so he reminded her to inform the eldest brother as soon as she arrived and not to wander off.
Lu Jingtang nodded, reassuring him, and waited obediently with her luggage.
Not long after Fu Shengzhou left, Fu Nanyu called. She answered.
Fu Nanyu: "Is the flight delayed?"
Lu Jingtang didn’t miss the chance to flatter him, "Eldest Brother, you're truly prescient!"
In reality, Fu Shengzhou had felt uneasy after leaving and had informed Fu Nanyu in advance.
Fu Nanyu chuckled lightly, "Wait properly. Don't talk to strangers, and don't accept food from anyone you don't know."
The primary targets for abduction of women were often people from out of town, especially someone like Lu Jingtang with her big, innocent eyes.
A warm feeling spread in Lu Jingtang’s heart—this sense of being cared for and protected was something she had never experienced before.
She quietly hummed in agreement.
On the other end of the phone, it seemed Qin Xianzhao reminded Fu Nanyu that it was time for a meeting.
Lu Jingtang quickly said, "Eldest Brother, you should go ahead with your work. I'll have the family driver pick me up when I arrive."
The return flight would take three hours. By the time Lu Jingtang boarded the plane, it was already 4 p.m., and when she landed, the sky had darkened.
As soon as she got off the plane, she received a call from Fu Nanyu saying he was waiting for her at the airport entrance. Fu Nanyu stood by the car, wearing a long black coat. His deep, ink-black eyes slowly lifted to look at her. His face was pale and exquisitely cold and beautiful, like finely carved jade.
Lu Jingtang’s heart skipped a beat, but she didn’t pay it much mind, attributing it to having overeaten on the plane.
Fu Nanyu helped her put her luggage in the trunk.
Lu Jingtang: "Eldest Brother, why are you here? I thought the family driver was coming."
Fu Nanyu: "I was heading home anyway, so it was convenient."
By the time they arrived home, it was already late. Lu Jingtang opened her suitcase and began distributing the gifts.
Ye Xixi and Fu Xiaqing tried on their matching rings and were overjoyed. This child had really grown up. In previous years, she hadn't been very close to her brothers, which had worried the couple greatly.
"This is for Second Brother, and this is for Eldest Brother." Lu Jingtang distributed to each of them their respective gifts.
After distributing the gifts, Lu Jingtang carried her suitcase upstairs herself, with Fu Nanyu following unhurriedly behind.
Fu Nanyu glanced at her, "You bought gifts for everyone. What did you get for yourself?"
Lu Jingtang was surprised by his question. In truth, after buying gifts for everyone, she was strapped for cash, but saying so would sound pretentious. She replied, "Of course I bought something. I wouldn't deprive myself."
Fu Nanyu didn’t say anything else, just patted her head, "Go change your clothes and come down for dinner."
That evening, the kitchen had prepared sour radish old duck soup, which was very appetizing. Lu Jingtang drank two large bowls.
Ye Xixi suddenly mentioned that as year-end approaches, the company needed to speed up its projects so that the Fu Corporation's employees could enjoy a good New Year.
Fu Nanyu acknowledged this, and his gaze incidentally noticed the person across from him staring out the window, spacing out.
Watching the snow falling outside, Lu Jingtang was merely thinking about how she had already been here for nearly half a year.
Fu Nanyu: "What's outside the window that made you put down your chopsticks?"
Lu Jingtang came back to herself, her eyes lighting up, "Eldest Brother, we can make a snowman!"
