Chapter 51 Just Wash It Off
byChapter 51: Might As Well Just Wash It Off
Lu Jingtang drifted in and out of consciousness, her ears ringing. She was unresponsive to Madam Fu’s concern and, despite her profound weakness, stubbornly tried to leave, muttering softly, "Go home, go home."
Seeing her in such a state, Madam Fu dared not let her leave alone. She quickly instructed a servant to support her and said cautiously, "Youyou, listen to Grandma. You shouldn’t move right now. Let me have the doctor examine you, okay?"
"I... I’m fine. I... can go home by myself. I don’t want to stay here," Lu Jingtang whispered, her vision blurry. Summoning unexpected strength, she pushed away the servant supporting her and crawled a few steps toward the door.
Suddenly, the bodyguard at the door was sent flying into the room. Everyone turned to look and saw Fu Nanyu walk in, his face as cold as frozen steel. When he saw Lu Jingtang’s distressed condition, his pupils noticeably contracted, and his expression showed unprecedented panic.
Lu Jingtang staggered, unable to see clearly. Everything before her stretched and contorted bizarrely, like an old TV screen flickering with static.
A tall figure rushed toward her in a panic, catching her just as she was about to hit the floor face down.
His scent felt somewhat familiar. She closed her eyes slightly and murmured, "Brother..."
Fu Nanyu held her in his arms, hardly daring to exert any pressure. Lu Jingtang felt alarmingly light and fragile, as if she might break at the slightest touch. Quelling his own panic, he replied softly, "I’m here."
Lu Jingtang saw the panic in his eyes and wanted to explain that she had fainted only because of her fear of blood, but she was too exhausted to utter another word.
Perhaps it was because she knew that Fu Nanyu was a person who valued family and justice, but as soon as he arrived, her heart settled, and she fell into a deep sleep.
Feeling her go completely limp in his arms, Fu Nanyu’s breath caught in his throat. His trembling fingers reached to check her breathing, and only when he felt the warm breath did he start breathing again.
Despite the chilly weather, Fu Nanyu was drenched in cold sweat down his back.
He picked her up and scanned the room with a piercing glare. Under his stare, Grandpa Fu’s back seemed to stoop slightly. He simply watched Fu Nanyu, who had always been his pride, offering no defense.
In the end, Fu Nanyu said nothing and carried her away. Madam Fu, afraid that the rift between grandfather and grandson would deepen, hurried after him, trying to explain, "Nanyu, Nanyu, listen to Grandma. Your grandfather didn’t do it intentionally. He just wanted to question her about some things today. We never expected it to end up like this."
Fu Nanyu continued walking without stopping. Explanations were unnecessary. He knew the old lady was only trying to defend Grandpa Fu. If she were truly worried about Lu Jingtang, she wouldn’t delay him from taking her to the hospital at such a critical moment.
"Holy shit, what... what happened? Did the old man kill her!?"
Li Chen had just driven to the entrance of Hezhuang when he saw Fu Nanyu carrying someone out. In his arms, Lu Jingtang’s eyes were tightly shut, her face deathly pale, with a large bloodstain on her clothes.
Fu Nanyu had been in a meeting with him at the company but ran off after receiving a phone call. Out of curiosity, Li Chen had followed.
Seeing it was Li Chen, Fu Nanyu, without a word, carried Lu Jingtang into the back seat of his car. "Drive, to Huali Hospital."
Lu Jingtang’s condition looked truly frightening, and Li Chen’s expression turned serious. Under Fu Nanyu’s urging, he cut what should have been a one-and-a-half-hour drive into 40 minutes.
"Has she woken up yet?"
"No."
"That doesn’t make sense. She should have woken up by now. It’s been a full day and night."
In her dazed state, Lu Jingtang heard two voices. A moment later, someone lifted open one of her eyelids, then the other.
Fu Nanyu and Fu Ting stood waiting for the doctor’s diagnosis. Dr. Lin, after examining her, wore an odd look, hemming and hawing.
Fu Nanyu frowned. "What is it? Is there a problem?"
"Mr. Fu, Miss Lu... doesn’t seem to be in a coma. It looks like she’s actually asleep."
As soon as he finished speaking, the person on the hospital bed tutted irritably, as if annoyed by their talking, frowned, buried her face in the pillow, and went back to sleep.
Fu Nanyu/Fu Ting/Dr. Lin: "..."
Lu Jingtang didn’t wake until evening, and the reason she woke was mainly because she was hungry—the smell of Fu Ting’s spicy crayfish had woken her up.
She opened her eyes, blinked against the light, and stared at the ceiling to adjust. As soon as she opened her mouth, Fu Nanyu immediately turned to look at her and quickly walked to the bedside. "Awake? Want some water?"
Lu Jingtang opened her round, wide eyes and nodded.
Fu Nanyu fed her some water through a straw, only to see her staring intently at Fu Ting, whose lips were red from the spicy crayfish, swallowing hard.
Even when sick, she couldn’t shake her gluttonous nature.
Fu Nanyu said, "You have some too. No need to envy others."
Hearing this, Lu Jingtang’s eyes instantly lit up, watching expectantly as he set up a small table on the bed, took out an insulated container, and placed plain congee, chicken soup, and stir-fried greens on it.
Lu Jingtang stared dumbfounded. "This... there must be some misunderstanding."
"You have injuries in your mouth. The doctor said you need to eat light foods," Fu Nanyu said, glancing at her with a faint smile in his eyes.
Only then did Lu Jingtang notice the bitter taste of medicine in her mouth. She frowned in confusion. "Huh? When did this happen?"
Fu Ting chimed in, "That goes back to when you vomited blood."
After Lu Jingtang was sent to the hospital, multiple authoritative doctors conducted consultations, examining every organ inside and out, but they couldn’t determine the specific cause of the bleeding.
Just when everyone was at a loss, Dr. Lin had a sudden inspiration and guessed it might be bleeding gums. As soon as he said it, he was immediately criticized by the others—whose gums bleed that much? If that were the case, brushing teeth would be a life-threatening activity every day.
In the end, Fu Nanyu took it seriously and pried open Lu Jingtang’s mouth for an examination. He found a bite mark on the inside of her cheek, exactly where the wound on her face was. The area was already inflamed and swollen due to the facial injury.
In her nervous state, Lu Jingtang had accidentally bitten it, causing her to faint from the sight of blood. When she woke up and saw the blood she had vomited, she fainted again.
Lu Jingtang broke into a cold sweat: "..." Might as well just wash it off.
