Chapter 129 Shattered Glass Beads (5)
byChapter 129: Shattered Glass Marble (5)
Ji Yunyin had been interning at the Fu Group for less than two days when she received a promotion notice, elevating her salary directly to a senior executive level. Before her colleagues could even register their envy, they fell into a collective silence upon seeing the nature of her new position.
Grandpa Fu no longer managed company affairs and rarely visited the office. Reassigning her as his assistant, despite the significantly higher salary, was essentially no different from paying to keep her on while practically exiling her in another form.
After the initial awkwardness, everyone discreetly congratulated Ji Yunyin. In a way, it was a good thing—she could now earn a salary others only dreamed of without having to exert herself.
However, Ji Yunyin often took things the wrong way and tended to overthink. She constantly felt others were belittling or bullying her, and seeing someone more accomplished would make her so jealous she'd lie awake all night. Such reactions were typical for her.
Her face noticeably paled as she accepted the sympathetic congratulations with a forced smile.
That afternoon, Fu Nanyu received a call from He Manor. Grandpa Fu asked him why he had done this, his voice sounding relatively steady but clearly suppressing anger. Fu Nanyu continued reviewing documents while taking the call, his expression still indifferent. "Since she's your person, it's better to keep her by your side."
Grandpa Fu let out a snort, raising his voice. "Did Lu Jingtang say something that made you unable to tolerate A-Yin? If she wants a future with you, your social and professional life will inevitably bring you into contact with many more outstanding women. Is she going to demand that no other woman can ever be near you? Your mother raised her to be too petty."
Grandpa Fu’s voice was loud, carrying clearly through the receiver. The assistants waiting nearby all heard it, and no one dared to breathe too loudly.
Fu Nanyu didn’t even furrow his brows, though his lowered eyelashes hinted at his displeasure. His tone remained calm, as if he were merely stating whether a bird on the roadside was gray or black. "I am not a gigolo. There won't be many other women around me."
Grandpa Fu was left speechless, nearly gasping for air. "Must you be like this?"
Without changing his expression, Fu Nanyu replied, "Also, it is I who cannot tolerate her. The petty one should be me. I was raised by you, and though you may not have taught me well, I won't blame you."
After a pause, he glanced at the time and added, "It's getting late. You ought to get up early. At your age, morning exercise will help keep your temper in check."
Without waiting for Grandpa Fu to respond, he hung up the phone.
Qin Xianzhao was already accustomed to such scenes. He merely adjusted his glasses, marveling at how his boss’s sharp tongue had improved yet again.
That evening, Fu Nanyu attended a dinner gathering. When a server tried to pour him a drink, he declined. "Sorry, a family member will pick me up later. I'll skip the drinks today."
The term "family member" was rather telling. Though curious, no one dared to ask further.
Though relatively young among the group, Fu Nanyu’s status and influence were beyond their ability to challenge. Not drinking was nothing—even if he decided to leave on the spot, they would still respectfully see him out.
Fu Nanyu had no intention of staying long. He had only shown up out of courtesy. He still had a date to attend—Lu Jingtang had said she would cover all expenses tonight, which was far more appealing to him.
Less than twenty minutes after sitting down, Fu Nanyu checked his phone and stood up to take his leave. The two guests seated beside him escorted him to the private room door, but he didn’t let them go further.
In the club hallway, he caught quite a show. Fu Nanyu only glanced at it briefly, showing no further interest. His lips moved slightly as he turned and left.
Qin Xianzhao deciphered his silent message—it unmistakably meant "speechless."
