Chapter 66: The Urge to Control

Under the dim bedroom light, Fu Nanyu’s eyelashes appeared long and thick. He took the honey water, took a sip, and then, as if it didn't taste quite right, a faint frown creased his handsome brow.

“Is it good?” Lu Jingtang asked. It was her first time preparing honey water, and unsure of the right amount, she had simply used a third of the jar’s contents.

Fu Nanyu tried to be polite, but it was an unnecessary effort. The urge to gag caught in his throat as he half-opened his eyes and said, sounding genuinely put-out, “It’s quite good, just makes me feel a bit nauseous.”

    Lu Jingtang: “...”

Not just nauseous, but *very* nauseous—it must have tasted truly awful.

Seeing Fu Nanyu still drinking it, Lu Jingtang said apologetically, “If it doesn’t taste good, you don’t have to drink it.”

A glint of amusement shone in Fu Nanyu’s eyes as he said with a double meaning, “If I don’t drink it, I’m afraid someone might not make it for me again in the future.”

Lu Jingtang quickly reassured him, “It’s fine, I’ll still make honey water for you in the future, Big Brother.”

“Make it for me,” Fu Nanyu murmured the phrase twice under his breath, then chuckled softly, his chest shaking with laughter.

It was his laughter that made Lu Jingtang realize the double entendre. Her cheeks flushed slightly as she clarified, “Honey water—I meant making honey water.”

“I was talking about honey water too. What did you think I meant?” Fu Nanyu sat on the bed, leaning back on his hands, looking up at her with a smirk.

Lu Jingtang wondered if she had misheard. Since when did Fu Nanyu talk to her like that?! She took two steps closer to get a clearer look at his expression. Clearly, Fu Nanyu was quite drunk.

How could the male lead flirt with her? She was the story's most villainous female character, the one destined to bring about ruin!

Fortunately, she wasn’t the original character and wouldn’t take the male lead’s words seriously, or that could lead to real trouble.

Lu Jingtang secretly glared at Fu Nanyu a few times, but whenever he glanced her way, she'd quickly look away.

She took the glass from his hand and blinked twice. “Okay, Big Brother, I should go now. You should rest.”

Fu Nanyu’s hand gave a barely noticeable twitch as he said, “Don’t you have something to tell me?”

Lu Jingtang looked at him in surprise. “How could you tell?”

Fu Nanyu tapped her on the forehead lightly and said calmly, “Because just now, your face was practically shouting, ‘Come talk to me, I want to chat with you.’”

Lu Jingtang blinked, thinking, *Was it that obvious?* But she really did want to gossip with Fu Nanyu about Second Brother. She suspected she had a filial imprinting attachment to Fu Nanyu—even when they weren’t talking, she felt comfortable around him.

She said, “It’s okay, it can wait until tomorrow. You should rest first, Big Brother.”

While taking off his watch, Fu Nanyu looked at her, his voice slightly hoarse. “No need, I still have time to listen to you.”

Fu Nanyu really seemed like a responsible parent, coming home after work and still caring about the kid’s emotional state.

“Big Brother, did you know Second Brother is in a relationship?” Lu Jingtang asked, still holding the cup as she stood there chatting, one foot already pointing toward the door, as if ready to bolt.

Fu Nanyu, who had his back to her as he took off his suit jacket, nodded and looked at her. “You saw them? How did you run into each other?”

“Adult matters… well, even adults shouldn’t ask too many questions. I can’t share too many details,” Lu Jingtang said, the tips of her ears turning red as she put on a show of furrowing her brows seriously.

Fu Nanyu gave a short laugh but didn't call her on it. Instead, he said, “This is a mess of your Second Brother's own making.”

Lu Jingtang’s ears perked up, her eyes sparkling. “What do you mean?”

Fu Nanyu glanced at the jacket in his hand and raised an eyebrow, hinting at her.

Her mind protested this servitude, but her hands acted obediently, taking the jacket and hanging it on the coat rack.

She was too eager to know the story. She had pestered Fu Ting for ages, but he refused to tell her.

“Good job, Little Deer,” Fu Nanyu said, messing up her hair in a surprisingly childish gesture.

Lu Jingtang said, “Can you tell me now, Big Brother?”

The story between Fu Ting and Lian Dingtian started when they were children. The Fu and Lian families were old friends, but the Lian family's business was based in Europe. It wasn’t until Lian Dingtian was seven that they moved their operations back to China.

Lian Dingtian returned to study in China and happened to be in the same class as Fu Ting. Lian Dingtian had some Caucasian ancestry, and as a child, he had snow-white skin, long hair, and delicate features, making him look like a doll.

The moment Fu Ting saw Lian Dingtian, he felt he had fallen in love at first sight—this was his future wife. For a whole month, he showered Lian Dingtian with candies and snacks without ever asking about his gender.

Lian Dingtian was introverted, and while other kids avoided him, Fu Ting’s thick skin made him immune to rejection. He'd doggedly stick by Lian Dingtian's side every day.

One day, Lian Dingtian asked him why he was so nice to him. Fu Ting honestly replied that he wanted to marry him.

Lian Dingtian stared in shock at Fu Ting, who was taller and sturdier than most kids their age, and said in disbelief, “Are you a girl?”

Fu Ting scratched his head in confusion. “No, I’m not.”

Lian Dingtian said, “Two boys can’t get married.”

Now it was Fu Ting’s turn to be shocked. “You’re a boy?”

“I’ve always been a boy,” Lian Dingtian replied.

“Why didn’t you say so earlier?! And you… you ate all my snacks!” Fu Ting’s face flushed with anger.

Lian Dingtian looked at him as if he were an idiot. “You never asked. You were the one who insisted on giving them to me.”

Fu Ting then grabbed him, threatening to beat him up unless he paid him back for all the snacks.

Lian Dingtian was equally furious. *So, yesterday you thought I was a girl and called me “Sweetie” and “Little Cake,” but today, after finding out I’m a boy, you want to hit me?*

The two kids started throwing punches and only stopped when a teacher intervened. From that day on, Fu Ting wanted nothing more to do with Lian Dingtian.

But this time, it was Lian Dingtian who became hung up on it. Fu Ting was the one who had inexplicably been nice to him first, and he was determined to make Fu Ting admit his mistake.

From then on, the two became bitter rivals in school, and their rivalry continued through middle school and high school without any reconciliation. In college, Fu Ting enrolled in the police academy, and Lian Dingtian enrolled right after him.

It wasn’t until Lian Dingtian took a bullet for Fu Ting during a mission that the two finally reconciled. Later, somehow, things progressed until they ended up in bed together.

Lu Jingtang never expected that Fu Ting, who seemed the most straightforward among the three brothers, would turn out to be so clearly gay.

After hearing the gossip, Lu Jingtang figured she shouldn't bother Fu Nanyu any longer. She said goodnight and tried to slip away.

Fu Nanyu narrowed his eyes, his gaze turning dangerous. His tie was loose, and he radiated a dominating aura. “Lu Youyou, you just use me and then discard me? Do you really not want to stay with me?”

Lu Jingtang swallowed nervously and said, “No, I just thought since you’ve been drinking, you should sleep early. Otherwise, you might have a headache tomorrow.”

Hearing this, Fu Nanyu seemed to soften his expression, as if afraid of scaring her. He nodded and said, “Since you’re concerned about me, I’ll reluctantly accept that reason.”

After leaving Fu Nanyu’s room, Lu Jingtang finally came back to herself and realized her legs were weak. Wiping her face nervously, she thought, *Does Fu Nanyu become this controlling when he’s drunk?*

David was still awake, waddling past her, his big butt swaying. Lu Jingtang quickly grabbed him and put a finger to her lips, warning, “Don’t go in there, or you’ll have to show him some concern before you can leave.”

Since Fu Nanyu returned late last night, he didn’t go to the company early the next day and didn’t even come downstairs for breakfast.

It was almost 11 o’clock when he finally came downstairs. Fu Xiaqing and his wife had gone to a friend’s house, and Fu Ting had left for work, leaving only Lu Jingtang at home.

Lu Jingtang leaned out and said, "Big brother, you’re up."

Fu Nanyu grunted and sat down on the sofa beside her. A maid immediately brought coffee.

Lu Jingtang glanced at him discreetly—he seemed back to normal. Seeing Fu Nanyu drinking bitter coffee first thing after waking up, she reminded him, "Big brother, drinking coffee on an empty stomach can upset your stomach."
