Chapter 127 Shattered Glass Beads (3)
byChapter 127 Broken Glass Marble (3)
Ji Yunyin had gone to great lengths, doing many humiliating things to get close to Fu Nanyu. Yet, no matter how much she debased herself, it seemed to leave no lasting impression on him. Before she even arrived, someone else had already planted their flag firmly on the summit of that towering mountain.
She took a part-time job distributing leaflets at an amusement park, a place where Fu Nanyu's car would regularly stop at a specific time. She hadn't anticipated the rain, and neither had the system. But the system quickly adapted, stopping her from changing out of her drenched white blouse—after all, a hint of what lay beneath was far more alluring.
Qin Xianzhao spotted Ji Yunyin first. "Mr. Fu," he said, "it's Miss Ji."
A minute later, Ji Yunyin, shielding her head from the rain with one hand, her body soaked like a pitiful little rabbit, tapped on the car window. She offered what she believed was her sweetest smile, feigning a touch of embarrassment. "Excuse me, Mr. Fu," she began, "I was out working part-time when it suddenly started raining. I was wondering if I might borrow your car to shelter from it?"
Fu Nanyu's expression was cold and stern, his dark eyes sweeping over her with a dismissive gaze, as if she were an ant beneath his notice. It gave her the unsettling illusion of being completely seen through.
Ji Yunyin's heart sank, a suffocating sensation gripping her throat, her cheeks burning with humiliation.
Fu Nanyu remained silent, but Qin Xianzhao immediately understood. "Miss Ji," he said, "please take the front seat."
Ji Yunyin's face lit up with gratitude. "Thank you, Mr. Fu. I'm so sorry for the trouble."
Fu Nanyu gave a faint nod, the corners of his lips curving into a subtle, devastatingly handsome smile.
She was a woman, after all; who wouldn't be drawn to such a handsome and exceptional man?
Ji Yunyin's cheeks flushed, her judgment clouded by the flutter in her heart. She failed to notice that her soaked chest, even after it had dried, had garnered no attention whatsoever.
The car drove directly to He Manor, where Ji Yunyin alighted. Before entering the house, she thanked Fu Nanyu repeatedly, her smile still exceptionally sweet.
She had only taken a few steps when Qin Xianzhao suddenly exited the car and approached her, offering a black suit jacket. Ji Yunyin paused, remembering that Fu Nanyu had only been wearing a white shirt earlier. Her cheeks burned even hotter, a thought forming that today's scheme hadn't been entirely fruitless.
When the car returned to the Qin family villa, Fu Nanyu stepped out and remarked calmly, "Don't drive this car again."
Upon hearing this, Qin Xianzhao raised an eyebrow. Living in a mansion worth hundreds of millions, going out for a part-time job, chauffeured around—the mansion's driver earned more per hour than her daily wage. Only a fool wouldn't see through her intentions.
And Fu Nanyu was notoriously particular about his likes and dislikes; he simply wouldn't tolerate such things. Indeed, the day after Ji Yunyin was forced by Grandpa Fu to intern at Fu Corporation, Fu Nanyu sent a beauty to He Manor. The beauty was remarkably perceptive, brewing tea and singing for Madam Fu during the day. At night, following instructions, she knocked on Grandpa Fu's door, offering to serve him, nearly giving the old man a heart attack.
Madam Fu, on the other hand, was amused. The beauty could sing and brew tea, and she was pretty—Madam Fu enjoyed looking at pretty young girls. Who wanted to stare at that strange old man all day?
On her first day of internship, Ji Yunyin eagerly brought the jacket to work. During her lunch break, she carried it, intending to go to the top floor and personally return it to Fu Nanyu.
Lu Jingtang wasn't particularly surprised to encounter Ji Yunyin in the elevator. She simply asked politely, "Which floor are you going to?"
Seeing that Ji Yunyin had pressed the top floor, her heart tightened, and she couldn't resist probing first. "The top floor. Mr. Fu gave me a ride the day before yesterday, and he left his jacket with me."
Hearing this, Lu Jingtang looked up, her expression unchanged. Her gaze slowly fell upon the jacket in Ji Yunyin's hands. After a few glances, she smiled faintly, but said nothing.
Ji Yunyin was puzzled. Had she guessed wrong? Did Lu Jingtang not like Fu Nanyu?
As they exited the elevator, they ran directly into Qin Xianzhao. He seemed quite accustomed to Lu Jingtang coming to the top floor and greeted her respectfully, "Miss Lu, Mr. Fu is still in a meeting."
Lu Jingtang nodded and didn't linger, familiarly pushing open the door to Fu Nanyu's office herself, with no one attempting to stop her.
Qin Xianzhao turned to Ji Yunyin, asking calmly, "Miss Ji, is there something you need?"
Ji Yunyin lifted the jacket slightly, explaining, "Assistant Qin, I wanted to thank Mr. Fu for helping me the day before yesterday and return his jacket to him."
Qin Xianzhao glanced at it, his smile unwavering. "Mr. Fu is quite busy. You can just give the jacket to me."
Ji Yunyin's smile stiffened slightly. If she couldn't see Fu Nanyu, how was she supposed to advance her scheme? She swallowed her pride and insisted, "I'd rather give it to him personally."
Qin Xianzhao replied, "I'm sorry, Miss Ji, but this jacket is mine. You can just give it to me."
Ji Yunyin's face instantly burned as if she had been slapped hard. She struggled to maintain a normal, calm voice. "Ah, I'm sorry," she said, handing the jacket back to Qin Xianzhao.
Had Lu Jingtang already realized that the jacket wasn't Fu Nanyu's? Why hadn't she said anything? Did she just want to see her humiliated?
