Chapter 132 Shattered Glass Beads (8)
byChapter 132: Shattered Glass Beads (8)
The incident at the banquet made Fu Nanyu reflect on his own shortcomings. What gentlemanly demeanor? To deal with lunatics, a different approach was needed.
Just as Ji Yunyin's car passed along Jiangwan Avenue, it was struck several times by multiple vehicles. The airbags deployed, her forehead was covered in blood, her face pale as smoke rose from the front of the car. Gasoline dripped onto the ground with a steady patter.
Before she could process what happened, the car door was abruptly yanked open. A hand reached in, roughly pulling her out of the vehicle. Recognizing the man as Fu Lin—Grandpa Fu's assistant and bodyguard—Ji Yunyin immediately clung to his hand like a lifeline, pleading, "I know you! You work for Grandpa Fu! Someone is trying to kill me! Please, call the police quickly!"
Fu Lin cast a cold glance at her, then turned his attention to the vehicles that had just crashed into Ji Yunyin's car. Several men stepped out, showing no trace of guilt or concern. Instead, they smirked shamelessly at the two, walked over, took a cigarette from behind his ear, and handed it to Fu Lin. Leaving their car keys in the ignition, they turned and walked away from the accident scene.
Seeing them leave, Ji Yunyin grew frantic. These people were here to kill her—how could they just let them go!? Was it Lu Jingtang who had sent them for revenge!?
She tried to return to the car to find her phone and call the police, but when she turned, she realized her phone was already in Fu Lin's hand. He was making a call on his own device, saying something about cutting off surveillance, which area...
Ji Yunyin's throat tightened as she listened. Only after he ended the call did she dare to speak up, questioning, "What do you mean? Why did you let those people go? Are you working with them?"
Without even looking at her, Fu Lin dragged Ji Yunyin farther away from the car, then coolly lit a cigarette and flicked it toward the vehicle. With a loud "boom," the car burst into flames, and Ji Yunyin's phone was thrown into the inferno.
Ji Yunyin screamed in terror, slumping to the ground as she stared blankly at Fu Lin.
Fu Lin said calmly, "Miss Ji, your car had a malfunction and caught fire. You're injured. Let me take you to the hospital."
His voice was steady and composed, as if he hadn't just intentionally set the car ablaze. As Grandpa Fu's man, his actions were guided by the old man's wishes. Since Grandpa Fu wanted to protect Ji Yunyin, Fu Lin would ensure her safety. But no matter how important Ji Yunyin was to Grandpa Fu, she could never outweigh the successor he had personally trained.
Even if Ji Yunyin hadn't survived today, even if she had been crushed to pulp, Fu Lin would have helped destroy the evidence. This was Fu Nanyu's warning—and his provocation.
Ji Yunyin was admitted to the hospital. Not only did she receive ten stitches for the head wound, but she was also severely traumatized. She kept screaming that someone was trying to kill her.
The doctors and nurses acted as if they didn't hear, changed her bandages and left.
When Grandpa Fu learned the news, he didn't seem particularly angry. He simply arranged for a psychological evaluation for Ji Yunyin, ensuring she had the best care, food, and amenities for her recovery.
Fu Lin hung up the phone and glanced into the hospital room. Ji Yunyin was still screaming that she wanted to see Grandpa Fu. He let out a cold laugh, then turned and walked away.
After hours of breakdowns in the hospital room, Ji Yunyin didn't manage to get Grandpa Fu to secure her release. Instead, she was met by a psychiatrist sent to evaluate her mental state.
"What do you mean? I'm not crazy! I'm not crazy! I want to see Grandpa Fu!"
But her cries were in vain. She was to be locked up as insane.
She begged her system for help, but even it was powerless. Though the system could control everything in this world, there was one exception: Fu Nanyu. He was the one true protagonist of this world, the reason this world existed.
Everyone's fate was intricately tied to his. He hadn't followed the set path—he had fallen in love with Lu Jingtang, a mere plot device in the setup, and strayed from the intended course. But was the path of deviation truly so easy?
To set everything back on track, Lu Jingtang would have to die.
