Chapter 54 Didn’t Bully Her
byChapter 54 Not Bullying Her
Bored and disinclined to use her phone, Lu Jingtang paced between the lounge and office area of the VIP ward. The more she explored, the more her spirits sank.
Being hospitalized felt like a vacation—the suite boasted not only a bedroom but also a kitchen, an office, a lounge, and even a walk-in closet. How was this any different from a hotel? she mused.
Suddenly, she stumbled upon a hidden area. To the left of the lounge, a transparent glass door beckoned. She gently slid it open and stepped out to discover a small garden, its flowerbeds brimming with expensive flora.
Lu Jingtang’s knees buckled, and she couldn't suppress a soft, "Wow." Th-this… this is utterly extravagant. The world of the wealthy is truly fantastical. What did her old life, earning 5,000 yuan a month and still paying taxes, even amount to?
Was it just her misfortune?
So, living such a comfortable life, what had the original character been so dissatisfied with all along?
Lu Jingtang wandered in a daze through the garden for a while until she heard voices from the ward, prompting her return.
A few doctors in white coats stood at the door of the inner room, exchanging hesitant glances. None dared to wake Fu Nanyu—after all, the Fu family was their hospital's largest shareholder.
"Where’s the patient?"
"Not sure."
"Should we come back later?" they whispered, discussing their options, just as Lu Jingtang, in her hospital gown, re-entered.
Lu Jingtang: "..."
Crap. Her big brother was about to become legendary—staying overnight to watch over his sister, only to end up sleeping in the patient’s bed himself, completely oblivious to the actual patient.
After the examination, the doctors recommended she stay two more days to allow her wounds to fully heal before discharge.
The company wouldn't collapse without her, and Lu Jingtang wasn't one to push herself. Going home before full recovery would only burden her family, so she naturally adhered to the doctor's orders.
Unable to receive an IV on an empty stomach, the nurse instructed her to finish breakfast and ring the bell when ready for the drip.
Breakfast arrived courtesy of Chen Ma, who carried two multi-tiered lunchboxes, one of which was four layers high. Lu Jingtang’s eyes glazed over as she muttered, "If the illness doesn’t kill me, all this food will."
Chen Ma chuckled. "What nonsense are you talking, miss? These are all your favorites. You need to build up your strength since you’re sick."
Lu Jingtang’s eyes curved into a smile as she formed a heart with her fingers for Chen Ma. "Chen Ma, you’re the one who loves me the most."
Chen Ma laughed heartily, mimicking the heart gesture. Ever since bumping her head, the young lady had become so much sweeter. Which family wouldn't adore a daughter like this?
Probably disturbed by their conversation, Fu Nanyu woke up. He emerged from the inner room, still somewhat sleepy, his black hair slightly disheveled, and two buttons of his shirt undone. Even in this somewhat unkempt state, he remained incredibly handsome.
Chen Ma was taken aback when she saw him. "Uh… Young Master, you…"
Fu Nanyu immediately grasped her unspoken thought and said calmly, "I didn’t bully her. I waited until she was sound asleep before going in to rest."
Chen Ma offered an awkward smile.
Fu Nanyu quickly freshened up, planning to change into fresh clothes later at the company—his executive office had a restroom with spare outfits.
After leaving the bathroom, he sat beside Lu Jingtang for breakfast, noticing her persistent, odd, and uncomfortable gaze.
Fu Nanyu looked up at her. "What are you staring at?"
Lu Jingtang, nibbling on a rice ball, guiltily shifted her eyes and shook her head. "Nothing, nothing."
Fu Nanyu let out a soft, skeptical hum, leaving it unclear whether he believed her or not.
After a moment of silence, it was Lu Jingtang who couldn’t hold back. She leaned in with a grin and asked, "Brother, do you care about what other people think?"
Fu Nanyu elegantly ate his porridge, his narrow eyes lifting slightly. "No one can completely disregard others’ opinions. With modern technology so advanced, even robots can be designed to respond to human emotions. People are easily influenced by others’ feelings. However, if you’re strong enough, you can discard many unnecessary matters that aren’t worth your energy."
After that lengthy philosophical speech, Lu Jingtang easily summarized the main idea: "So he does care."
Lu Jingtang: "Um… earlier, when you were sleeping, the doctors came for rounds and saw you sleeping in the patient’s bed. Probably in a little while, your legendary moment will be making rounds in the hospital’s staff chat."
"..." A vein throbbed on Fu Nanyu’s fair forehead, his dark pupils reflecting her image. Lu Jingtang cut him off, "You can’t blame me for this. You’re the one who didn’t close the door properly. This is a good lesson for you—a reminder to protect your privacy. Especially after you get married, remember to… ahem, close the door."
Fu Nanyu gritted his teeth. "Well, thank you so much."
Lu Jingtang accepted shyly, "You’re welcome."
After breakfast, Fu Nanyu didn’t leave immediately, waiting instead for the nurse to come and give Lu Jingtang her IV.
The young nurse had two or three years of experience with IVs and possessed steady hands. But seeing Fu Nanyu there made her so nervous that her palms sweated. Visions of scenes from TV dramas about rich people making unreasonable demands flooded her mind, and she feared making a mistake and getting reported.
The nurse’s hand trembled slightly as she held the needle, and Lu Jingtang started trembling too. Sh-she… she's scared of both blood and needles.
But having experienced life at the bottom herself, she would never be hard on others.
She said softly, "Don’t be nervous, don’t be nervous. Take a deep breath."
Fu Nanyu watched from the side, noticing her eyelashes fluttering like a butterfly's wings. Even though her face was pale from fear, she was still comforting someone else.
Showing consideration for others was something the Lu Jingtang from before would never have done.
He walked over, placed his hand over Lu Jingtang’s eyes, and said to the nurse, "Go ahead."
Lu Jingtang blinked, feeling a quick sting on the back of her hand, and couldn’t help but let out a quiet whimper.
Fu Nanyu’s palm tingled at the brush of her eyelashes, an inexplicable sensation spreading from his fingertips to his chest, leaving him momentarily distracted.
