Chapter 85 Don’t Lock the Door Tonight
byChapter 85: Don’t Lock the Door Tonight
Though curious about the person, Lu Jingtang didn't press for details after the master had spoken.
She offered incense, made a donation, and as she was leaving, the sweeping monk presented her with a string of prayer beads. He clasped his hands and bowed to her, saying, “May your wishes be granted this time, benefactor.”
Lu Jingtang accepted the beads, thanked the monk, and departed from the temple.
Noticing it was almost lunchtime, she hailed a taxi directly to where Fu Nanyu was meeting, intending to wait for him and have lunch together.
When Fu Nanyu finished his work, his business partner invited him to lunch. Fu Nanyu declined, stating he already had an appointment.
The partner chuckled playfully, “It seems Mr. Fu has a date with a beauty. We wouldn’t want to hold you up.”
Seeing Fu Nanyu didn't deny it, the partner enthusiastically suggested several of Hong Kong’s top romantic spots for couples.
Fu Nanyu graciously accepted the recommendations. As he exited the IFC building, he spotted a familiar figure by the flower bed outside. A man opposite Lu Jingtang was engrossed in a phone conversation, his gaze subtly drifting towards her face.
Fu Nanyu strode over, wrapping an arm around Lu Jingtang’s waist from behind and drawing her close. “What’s happening?”
“You’re here.” Lu Jingtang turned, and seeing him, said, “Ge, he was asking for directions. I told him I’m not from around here and don’t know the way.”
Fu Nanyu’s lips twitched slightly as he cast a dismissive glance at the man. “A local asking a non-local for directions?”
Caught off guard, the man’s expression stiffened with embarrassment. Initially, seeing their intimate interaction, he’d assumed they were a couple. But hearing her call Fu Nanyu “Ge” sparked a flicker of hope—perhaps they were just siblings.
It was the first time he’d met a girl who so captivated him at first sight, and he was reluctant to give up so easily.
Gathering his courage, he said, “Excuse me, miss, I wasn’t actually asking for directions. I’m quite taken with you and was hoping for a chance to get acquainted.”
Lu Jingtang gasped in surprise, pressing back against Fu Nanyu’s chest. Being hit on right in front of her boyfriend was a first, leaving her flustered.
Fu Nanyu suddenly reached up, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear, his gaze intense, as if to say, “Oh, really?”
Lu Jingtang offered a placating smile, took his hand, and interlaced their fingers, displaying their joined hands to the man. “Sorry, I’m taken.”
The man looked unconvinced. “But you called him ‘Ge’?”
Lu Jingtang paused, unsure how to explain their non-blood-related sibling dynamic to a stranger. Fu Nanyu interjected first, “It’s our little private joke. Got a problem with that?”
The man slunk away dejectedly.
Once he was gone, Fu Nanyu remarked with a hint of sarcasm, “Miss Lu certainly has her charms. So many people seem to like Miss Lu.”
Lu Jingtang stood on tiptoe and gave him an appeasing kiss on the corner of his mouth, her eyes curving into a smile. “Don’t be silly. There aren’t that many people. Today was just a coincidence.”
Fu Nanyu’s lips slowly, gradually curved upward, and he pressed on playfully, “You sound almost regretful.”
“Stop spreading rumors about me. Their crushes don’t matter,” Lu Jingtang said, cupping his face and nuzzling him like a puppy. Fu Nanyu felt a flutter in his heart when she added, “Only my crush on you counts.”
Just as the two were about to become the most captivating sight on the street, Qin Xianzhao appeared just in time.
Qin Xianzhao: “Apologies for interrupting your romantic moment. If you don’t want to be tomorrow’s headline, I suggest getting in the car now. Otherwise, people might think you’re filming a reality dating show.”
Fu Nanyu: “…”
Lu Jingtang: “…”
After a two-day stay in Hong Kong, it was time to return to the capital. Lu Jingtang had personally chosen all the gifts for their family members.
Ye Xixi was delighted with the gift from Lu Jingtang and shot her eldest son a pointed look. “See, your sister remembered to bring us gifts. Where are yours?”
Lu Jingtang interceded for him, “Uh… I picked the gifts, but Ge paid. He contributed too, even more than I did.”
Fu Nanyu’s eyes held a warm smile as he said, “Whether I give them or she gives them, it’s all the same.”
Lu Jingtang widened her eyes at him, puffed out her cheeks, and raised a warning fist.
Ye Xixi didn’t notice their silent exchange and instead scrutinized her son. “Why do I feel like you’re a bit different?”
Lu Jingtang was startled. Was her mother that perceptive?
The next second, Ye Xixi added, “You seem handsomer.”
Fu Nanyu replied calmly, “It must be Hong Kong’s nourishing environment.”
After distributing the gifts, Fu Nanyu carried two suitcases upstairs, with Lu Jingtang following behind him.
As she was about to enter her own room, he caught her wrist. Fu Nanyu looked into her eyes and slowly said, “Did you forget something?”
Lu Jingtang looked puzzled. “What?”
Fu Nanyu’s thin lips covered hers, his tongue teasing as he murmured, “You’re abandoning your boyfriend as soon as you’re home?”
“N-no…” Lu Jingtang’s knees went weak from the kiss, her attention fixed on the staircase, terrified someone might come up and see them.
Suddenly, the patter of footsteps approached. Panda and David appeared from seemingly nowhere, lying on the floor with four round eyes fixed on them.
Fu Nanyu released her and gave each dog a light kick on the rump. The silly dogs whined pitifully and scurried to hide behind Lu Jingtang.
Lu Jingtang’s lips were red as she waved him away. “Ge, go rest in your room.”
Unfazed by being shooed, Fu Nanyu’s thin lips slowly curved upward. The next moment, he uttered something shocking: “Don’t lock your door tonight. I’ll be coming to you for some secret time.”
Lu Jingtang: “…”
