Chapter 37 Who’s Feeling Guilty? I Won’t Say
byChapter 37: Who's Feeling Guilty? I'm Not Saying.
Lu Jingtang woke up the next day with a pounding headache.
But it wasn't the throbbing pain of a hangover; it was at the back of her head. She reached back and felt a large bump. And why did it smell faintly of safflower oil?
Outside, the day was already bright, sunlight filtering through the white sheer curtains, casting dappled shadows across the floor and bed.
She stretched out an arm, grabbed her phone, and saw it was almost eight. Lin Yixiao had sent a few WeChat messages.
【Lin】: "Are you okay? The boss didn't get so mad he decided to silence you permanently, did he?"
She replied, "No, just woke up. What did I do last night? I can't remember a thing."
【Lin】: "Hehe, I suggest you don't try to remember. Some things are better left unknown—knowing would only add to your troubles. Poor Minister Zhou spent the whole night browsing Zhaopin (a job site)."
【Lu】: "What was he doing that for? Signing in to get a five-yuan cash reward?"
【Lin】: "Hehe, it's better if you don't know."
【Lu】: "......?"
Unable to get a clear answer, Lu Jingtang simply got up, washed, and went downstairs for breakfast.
When she descended, Fu Nanyu was already seated in his usual spot, impeccably dressed in a suit, elegantly enjoying his breakfast like a model posing for a photoshoot. There was no trace of fatigue from a night spent dealing with a drunkard.
"Uncle, Auntie Xi, Brother, good morning."
Ye Xixi smiled, "Good morning. Does your head still hurt?"
"No, it doesn't anymore." She greeted everyone in turn and sat down. Fu Nanyu glanced at her and pushed a bowl of porridge towards her. "Thank you, Brother."
She stole a glance at the person across from her. Seeing his expression was normal, she wondered if she hadn't done anything too outrageous last night.
With the elders present, it wasn't a good time to ask. After breakfast, as they drove to the company in Fu Nanyu's car, Lu Jingtang fiddled with her seatbelt, hesitating to speak.
"Are you wondering about the bump on the back of your head?"
Fu Nanyu's sudden question startled her. He turned to look at her, his long lashes slightly lowered, his voice soft. "Do you like forcing kisses on people when you're drunk?"
Lu Jingtang's breath hitched. "Who did I kiss?" Oh no, she hadn't kissed Fu Nanyu, had she?
Fu Nanyu let out a light chuckle, as if to say, "Who else?" Lu Jingtang was already picturing where she'd bury herself.
Then she heard Fu Nanyu say, "Didn't happen. I moved away."
Lu Jingtang let out a long sigh of relief. As she looked up, she caught the obvious amusement in Fu Nanyu's eyes. She hadn't realized before how much he enjoyed teasing people.
"So, how did I get this bump? Did you push me away so hard that I accidentally hit my head?"
At this, Fu Nanyu's eyes flickered unnaturally. He admitted guiltily, "Hmm."
Last night, when he carried her into the house, Lu Jingtang refused to get down. He had no choice but to carry her upstairs and ask Chen Ma to prepare some hangover soup.
As he laid her on the bed, Lu Jingtang woke up. The room was softly lit, and she suddenly opened her eyes. Her doe eyes sparkled, bright and watery. Clutching the blanket, she suddenly smiled at him.
Like a flower blooming in the warm spring sun, Fu Nanyu's eyes also held a smile. He tucked her under the covers and noticed she was still staring at him. He asked:
"Lu Youyou, what birthday gift do you want?"
Lu Jingtang stared at him blankly, as if she didn't understand what he was saying. Like a pure, innocent fawn in the forest, her eyes were clear, bright, and distinct.
She suddenly sat up, staring intently at him. Placing her hands on his shoulders, she leaned in, her soft breath drawing closer.
Fu Nanyu's dark eyes narrowed suddenly. Her soft, cool hands had already touched his face, tracing from his eyebrows down to his lips. The man's brows were sharp, his lashes long, his eyes dark, his nose bridge high, his lips thin and sensual, his face perfectly proportioned.
Lu Jingtang giggled twice, burying her face in his neck and rubbing against him. "You're really handsome."
Fu Nanyu closed his eyes, his heartbeat racing wildly. Suddenly, Lu Jingtang's slender hands wrapped around his neck, her soft, warm breath drawing even closer—just a centimeter away, like a butterfly about to kiss a flower.
"Nanyu!"
Ye Xixi's voice suddenly rang out. Startled, Fu Nanyu accidentally used too much force. Lu Jingtang fell backward, and though he tried to catch her, he failed. Her head hit the headboard with a loud thud.
Naturally, Fu Nanyu wouldn't tell her that last night, he had almost forgotten to push her away.
When Lu Jingtang went to get water, she ran into an unexpected person—her cousin, Jiang Ning.
She nodded at Jiang Ning, who was dressed in a sharp business suit. Jiang Ning's gaze fell on Lu Jingtang's ID badge, and she nodded back with a cold expression.
Minister Zhou, who saw this, asked curiously, "Little Lu, do you know Manager Jiang?"
Lu Jingtang replied, "Ah, Manager Jiang is my cousin."
Minister Zhou smiled but said nothing more, ushering everyone into the meeting room.
After the representative from Yunshang Technology, brought by Jiang Ning, finished presenting their proposal, Minister Zhou carefully reviewed the documents and nodded. "Manager Jiang is indeed young and talented. The proposal is quite good."
Before he could finish, Jiang Ning suddenly interrupted him. She smiled faintly and said, "Minister Zhou, we're here to discuss business. There's no need to consider other factors. You don't have to give me special treatment just because Miss Lu and I are related. I have the ability to earn Mr. Fu's recognition through my own efforts. If my cousin said anything to you, please ignore it. She and I are different—she's been spoiled at home and probably doesn't understand how business works."
Her words were arrogant, seemingly stating that she relied on her own abilities rather than connections, but in reality, she was undermining her cousin.
Minister Zhou's lip twitched, and his smile deepened. "Oh, is that so? Then, Manager Jiang, please revise the proposal and submit a new one."
Jiang Ning was stunned. "Minister Zhou, didn't you just say the proposal was quite good?"
Minister Zhou took a sip of tea from his large mug and said, "Well, your proposal might be considered good by other companies, but it doesn't meet Fu Corporation's standards. My apologies for the inconvenience, Manager Jiang."
Jiang Ning left the meeting room with an angry expression. When Lu Jingtang greeted her, she ignored her, not even bothering to maintain polite pretense.
