Chapter 48 The Name “Lu Jingtang” Suddenly Goes Viral
byChapter 48: Lu Jingtang's Name Went Viral in an Instant
Just as the keyboard warriors reveled in their verbal attacks, the Beijing Police pinned an official announcement, specifically tagging the Fu Corporation's official Weibo account.
Initially, everyone assumed it was a public reprimand for Lu Jingtang. However, after reading the announcement's content, a collective silence fell.
Following this, the Fu Corporation reposted the Beijing Police's Weibo, attaching the complete surveillance footage and declaring their intent to pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading rumors.
Marketing accounts quickly and sheepishly deleted their posts. The well-known university professor also removed his Weibo after receiving the news.
But it was too late. No sooner had they deleted their posts than they received cease-and-desist letters from the Fu Corporation.
[Oh my goodness, good thing I didn't jump on the bandwagon and curse. Otherwise, I'd be slapping myself in the middle of the night just thinking about it.]
[The name Lu Jingtang instantly went viral.]
[The Little Princess must be heartbroken. Thankfully, there was surveillance footage. She was merely defending her country but suffered unwarranted attacks. I'd be utterly depressed if it were me.]
[I heard the Little Princess was injured too. I'm an employee at the Fu Corporation, and her department said she truly didn't come to work today. Mr. Fu himself informed them.]
[Hope the Little Princess recovers soon. Please, don't read those comments.]
[Shouldn't the blogger who initially posted that misleading video come forward and apologize?!]
[Upstairs, that person has already deactivated their account and fled. Don't you think that video was strange? It was edited, only showing the part where the Little Princess hit someone, omitting the beginning and the arrival of the police. And the way that person spoke felt very targeted—calling her a 'slut' repeatedly and spreading rumors in the comments that the Little Princess was a homewrecker. It feels like revenge from an acquaintance.]
[Agreed, I think so too.]
…
"You're quite something. Looking this hideous and still eating with such gusto."
Fu Shengzhou had spent the entire day in the dissection room and only had time to check his phone during dinner. After reading the messages, he immediately video-called home.
He had expected Lu Jingtang to be somewhat dejected after such an ordeal, but she remained as carefree as ever. For twenty minutes, her mouth didn't stop, munching away with her terrifyingly bruised face.
Lu Jingtang didn't mind his sharp tongue and giggled playfully, leaning into the joke, "Am I ugly? Am I ugly? Should I leave then?"
Fu Shengzhou was about to say "Get lost," when he saw his eldest brother silently enter the frame. His deep, dark eyes were still incredibly intimidating, even through the screen. Fu Shengzhou quickly changed his tone, "No, you're not ugly. You've never been ugly."
Lu Jingtang hugged David and chuckled.
Noticing that Fu Nanyu had brought back a cake adorned with plump, fresh strawberries that looked incredibly delicious and juicy, with a layer of chocolate shavings around the edge, her attention immediately shifted away from the video call.
As Fu Nanyu carried the cake toward the dining room, she trailed after him like a little tail in her slippers, with a big, chubby dog following behind her.
Both the human and the dog thought they were being stealthy, but the reflective wall had already betrayed their presence.
A smile flickered in Fu Nanyu's eyes, but he didn't call them out. He handed the cake to Chen Ma and specifically instructed, "Don't open it until after dinner. Make sure the little mouse doesn't sneak a bite."
Chen Ma understood and chuckled behind her hand, "Alright, Young Master, I'll put it away safely."
Fu Nanyu turned around to find the human and dog pair with their backs to him, intently studying the ceiling light switch.
Miss Lu, temporarily deprived of cake, pouted with dissatisfaction.
Fu Nanyu quipped, "What, planning to switch careers and become an electrician?"
Lu Jingtang: "…"
It turns out that displaying snacks to a child before mealtime is a very unwise move.
Lu Jingtang noticeably sped through her dinner, practically shoveling food. She even skipped the soup. After finishing, she put down her chopsticks and looked up with innocent, watery eyes. Though she addressed Ye Xixi, her gaze was fixed on Fu Nanyu, "I'm full."
Ye Xixi was surprised, "Already? You ate so little today. Are you feeling unwell?"
Lu Jingtang insisted, "No, I'm just full."
Fu Nanyu saw right through her little scheme. He raised an eyebrow and said mercilessly, "If you're full, then you definitely won't have room for cake."
Lu Jingtang's eyes filled with protest at this unfairness, "I still have room."
"If you have room, why aren't you eating properly?"
Hoping for cake, Lu Jingtang reluctantly gave in and served herself another half-bowl of rice, plus a bowl of soup.
In the end, by the time she finished, she was too stuffed to eat any cake.
Fu Nanyu said, "If you can't eat it now, have it tomorrow."
Not one to give up, Lu Jingtang dragged David around the yard for a run. If she didn't get a taste of cake tonight, she truly wouldn't be able to sleep.
Fu Nanyu sat in the living room talking with Fu Xiaqing, his gaze occasionally drifting to the figure pattering around in the yard, both amused and exasperated.
An hour after dinner, Jiang Cheng arrived with a bunch of tonics. Lu Jingtang unceremoniously rummaged through them and whispered, "Uncle, I'd be happier if you brought me a couple packs of spicy strips."
Jiang Cheng, who was talking with Fu Xiaqing, turned around and saw Lu Jingtang's face. His pupils visibly contracted—not just in ordinary shock, but with a hint of fear.
Lu Jingtang saw it clearly and said gloomily, "Uncle, is it that scary?"
Jiang Cheng rubbed his nose, covering up, "You misunderstood. Your uncle just feels bad for you."
It wasn't entirely his fault. Years ago, to secure funding, he collaborated on a heavy-duty Chinese horror film.
Lu Jingtang's face was covered in bruises and swollen with a large hematoma, exactly like the makeup used for the female corpse in that film.
"Hmph," Lu Jingtang snorted, indicating she didn't believe a word of it.
[Ji Ruyan: Didn't expect you to have such high principles, kid.]
Actress Ji Ruyan messaged Lu Jingtang to chat. Lu Jingtang replied: Not bad, not bad, just third in the world.
[Ji Ruyan: You okay? My money's tied up lately, so I'm a bit short. Can only offer verbal concern. Anyway, we're not that close, so hypocritical words are enough.]
Lu Jingtang replied: Thanks. Though I'm not genuinely thankful, adult life isn't easy. Everyone has a hypocritical side.
After bantering with Ji Ruyan for a bit, Lu Jingtang suddenly had an idea. She sneakily took a photo of Jiang Cheng and sent it, then quickly deleted it, pretending nothing happened.
[Ji Ruyan: Can you take a nude photo of him? I'll pay.]
Lu Jingtang was shocked, "Sis, we country folks don't do that."
