Chapter 138: Please Don’t Cry Anymore (The End of the Main Story)

Fu Nanyu sacrificed his own life to free Lu Jingtang from the system’s control.

No longer bound to anyone, no longer constrained—even if it meant being far from the name Fu Nanyu, it was acceptable.

Lu Jingtang was sent to another world with his hopes, her age reset to three years old. A happy life had been promised, yet her fresh start began at the gates of an orphanage.

Recalling this, Fu Nanyu took a deep, shaky breath, his eyes reddening with a helpless sorrow. He had traded his life for hers—how could she still end up so poor? No wonder she started eating all sorts of junk food upon her return; she must have inherited that 'virtue' from the other world.

Having cried for a while, Lu Jingtang’s eyes were swollen, her curled lashes still glistening with tears. She scrambled onto him, hands and feet working in unison. "Um… I looked for you, you know. Anyway, you wouldn’t… be penniless…" Her last words were barely a whisper.

But that world held no Fu Nanyu—no matter how hard she searched, she couldn’t find him. And so, she remained poor all that time.

Without Fu Nanyu, nothing held much meaning—except for junk food.

"Why are you so foolish?" Fu Nanyu’s voice trembled, his eyes redder than before, filled with both helplessness and heartache.

Lu Jingtang reached out, letting his tears stream over her fingers. Patting his back as if to comfort him, she said softly, "Brother, even though I’m not as tall, strong, or smart as you… our relationship is equal. You had the courage to sacrifice everything for me, and I naturally broke through everything to return to you. You should be happy for me."

Fu Nanyu grasped her wrist, his dark, deep eyes glistening with moisture. He lowered his head and pressed a reverent, careful kiss to her eyelids, tears flowing even more fiercely. "Lu Jingtang, you did so well!"

Lu Jingtang sighed helplessly, her hand never ceasing its soothing pats on his back. Whatever, if he needed to cry, he should cry. After all, who wasn't a man who needed to break down sometimes?

What Fu Nanyu truly wanted to ask was: Why couldn’t she be happy?

To be close to Fu Nanyu—that was the answer.

Even without remembering him, her first wish was still for his happiness.

Because she wished for his happiness, they reunited.

When Fu Xiaqing heard that Fu Nanyu had stayed in Lu Jingtang’s room all night without emerging, his expression instantly darkened. If not for Ye Xixi holding him back, he might have retrieved something from the study’s safe.

Panda and David, who had gone upstairs to play with Lu Jingtang, ended up being useful. Fu Xiaqing pointed at the dog, aiming his words at someone else: "Shameless! Don’t you know any better? Be a civilized, dignified dog! Learn to respect others’ privacy!"

David & Panda, innocent and plump, bore the blame: "Whine~"

A servant nearby stifled a laugh as they tried to call Lu Jingtang’s room via the intercom, but there was no response—only an eerie silence.

In the end, Fu Xiaqing jimmied the lock with a wire and entered, only to find the room empty—even the blankets on the bed were gone…

On the nightstand lay a note with a simple message that made him want to scream: "Return date uncertain. Time for someone else to go to work."

After crying long and hard, Lu Jingtang felt more exhausted than after a week of working night shifts in a factory. Just as she was sleeping soundly, a mischievous hand kept bothering her—sometimes tickling her cheeks, sometimes playing with her eyelashes.

Annoyed, Lu Jingtang tsk’ed without opening her eyes, blinking groggily.

Fu Nanyu looked down at her, his voice low. "Awake?"

Wrapped tightly in a blanket like a burrito, Lu Jingtang wriggled uncomfortably. She slowly turned her head and noticed they were in a car. The roar of waves reached her ears.

Pressing her forehead against the window, she widened her eyes to look outside. Not far away, she saw a stretch of blue sea, waves crashing against the shore, sending white foam a meter high.

Still half-asleep, she mumbled, "Why are we here?"

Fu Nanyu embraced the "burrito" again, his hand finding hers beneath the blanket. His warm palm made her heart flutter. Resting his chin on her shoulder, he gazed out the window with her.

    "To imprison you."

    "To love you."
