Chapter 67 Just an Ordinary Working Girl!
byChapter 67: Just an Ordinary Office Worker!
Fu Nanyu replied, "It's fine." He truly had no appetite after the hangover; drinking coffee was merely a habit.
"That won't do!" Lu Jingtang strongly disagreed. Fu Nanyu managed such a vast company, responsible for the livelihoods of millions of employees. It would be too tragic if he couldn't even satisfy such a basic need as hunger.
Lu Jingtang asked, "Big brother, what would you like to eat? I can make it for you."
Fu Nanyu narrowed his eyes at her for a moment, a hint of amusement in their depths, and tapped her cheek with the rim of his coffee cup. "Noodles will do."
"Just wait, big brother, I'll have it ready for you," Lu Jingtang declared confidently, then scurried off to the kitchen, her slippers slapping against the floor.
It wasn't until she was frying an egg in the pan that it dawned on her—something was amiss. The original 'her' was a pampered little princess who had never cooked before, yet she had just made it sound like she was a culinary expert in front of Fu Nanyu.
She wasn't sure if Fu Nanyu would suspect anything. As she fished the fried egg out of the pan, she turned around to find Fu Nanyu leaning against the kitchen doorway, watching her with a faint, amused smile.
Lu Jingtang scratched her nose and gave him an awkward chuckle. "Noodles are just really simple to make, huh? I learned how from a video online."
She was wearing a white loungewear dress with a belt tied into a bow at the back. The warm sunlight streamed in like golden ribbons, enveloping her entirely. When she feigned pitifulness, her eyebrows would droop, and she unconsciously acted cute, exuding a natural, delicate charm. Her fair, tender cheeks dimpled slightly, and her eyes were as clear as water.
Fu Nanyu stood frozen at the doorway for a moment. "Do you need any help?"
"Sure."
Then, using her clumsy acting skills, Lu Jingtang kept asking all sorts of questions—like confusing sugar with salt, or whether she should put in the entire pack of noodles—questions that were full of obvious flaws. Yet, she precisely measured each seasoning.
Fu Nanyu answered her questions, then lowered his eyes and let out a soft, almost helpless laugh.
Lu Jingtang probably didn't know the saying, "Villains die because they talk too much," and she was still feeling smugly pleased with her own quick thinking.
The noodles and blanched greens were done. She placed them in the prepared broth, added the fried egg, and sprinkled some chopped scallions on top. It was both tasty and visually appealing.
Fu Nanyu carried the bowl to the dining table himself, picked up his chopsticks, and, noticing two fried eggs in the bowl, asked, "Why are there two fried eggs?"
Lu Jingtang shyly produced a small bowl. "Because I wanted one too."
While frying the egg for him, she suddenly felt like having one herself, so she made an extra one.
Fu Nanyu picked up one of the eggs and put it in her bowl, then gave her some noodles as well, filling about half of her small bowl. Worried that Fu Nanyu wouldn't have enough to eat, she quickly said, "That's enough, that's enough! I won't be able to finish it."
Only then did Fu Nanyu stop. He watched as she took a tissue and very carefully picked out every single piece of scallion from the noodle soup.
Lu Jingtang seemed to eat everything, but in reality, she was the pickiest eater in the family. She only ate two specific types of vegetables and wouldn't touch any others—especially lettuce, which she would even pick out of sandwiches. She only ate red carrots, didn't like plain water, found milk too gamey, and would only drink it with sugar...
Slurping her noodles, Lu Jingtang said, negotiating with him, "Big brother, I've rested enough at home. I want to go back to work tomorrow."
Fu Nanyu put down his chopsticks and pinched her chin. "Open your mouth. Let me see."
"Aah~" Lu Jingtang obediently opened her mouth without any guard, letting him examine.
Her teeth were snow-white, and her rosy tongue looked moist and soft. Mumbling incoherently, she asked, "Is it better now?"
Fu Nanyu's eyes darkened slightly, and for a moment, he forgot to react. Lu Jingtang lowered her gaze and met his eyes, startling her.
Fu Nanyu's expression was terrifying! It was as if he wanted to devour her.
Fu Nanyu released her, his voice sounding a bit huskier than before. "The wound has healed. You can go to work tomorrow, but no sneaking junk food. I'll check the surveillance feeds from the second project department."
Lu Jingtang said with a look of grievance, "As a citizen of China, I need liberation!"
Fu Nanyu shot her a glance. "If your idea of liberation is freely eating unregulated products that cost fifty cents a pack, I'm afraid I can't agree."
Lu Jingtang felt it necessary to defend spicy strips. Her anger flared up for a moment, and she retorted, "It's not fifty cents..."
Fu Nanyu gave her a deep, meaningful look, full of warning. Lu Jingtang swallowed nervously and meekly said, "The price has gone up now. It's one fifty for two packs."
Fu Nanyu: "..."
Lu Jingtang was about to return to work, and Ye Xixi and Chen Ma were even more nervous than she was. Since she started working, she had been falling sick every few days. Ye Xixi was starting to think she was hexed when it came to going to work.
Early in the morning, Ye Xixi took a flower, dipped it in water, and patted it on Lu Jingtang's body, with the aim of warding off evil spirits and bad luck.
Lu Jingtang raised her hand in confusion. "Um... shouldn't we use peach or willow branches for driving away evil and misfortune?"
Ye Xixi said, "We don't have those at home. Make do with this. If branches that cost nothing can ward off evil, a flower worth thirty thousand might be even more effective."
Understood. The power of money.
Lu Jingtang stopped resisting and let the two ladies have their way with her. Chen Ma braided her hair into a side plait resting on her shoulder, tying the end with a bear-decorated hairband.
Lu Jingtang glanced at her reflection and made a cheering gesture. "Today, my persona is 'just your average, unremarkable office worker'."
Fu Nanyu passed by her, glanced at the diamond worth about three million held by the bear on her hairband, and remarked flatly, "Yes, very 'average and unremarkable'."
Lu Jingtang was passionate about buying all kinds of cute hair accessories online. Even though she had money now, she didn't pursue luxury brands like others. Most of the small items she used were affordable—she could even wear hairbands that cost just one yuan.
Ms. Ye helped her unpack the package and thought the bear hairband was adorable. The bear originally didn't have anything in its hands, but Ms. Ye felt it was missing something, so she casually attached a diamond to it.
