Chapter 31: Little Deer Has a Clear Conscience

At this, Qi Heng offered a knowing smile. Back in their school days, Fu Nanyu was the wildest of them all—he pursued whatever was most expensive or dangerous. Fu Xiaqing, the military's top brass, had defied his father by enlisting when he was young, nearly beaten to death for it. His son was no pushover either. When the family cut off his funds, Fu Nanyu entered the underground fighting circuit, signing life-and-death contracts. Just when everyone wrote off the Fu family's eldest son, this guy turned out to possess terrifyingly strong self-control.

Back then, many young masters who couldn’t keep up with Fu Nanyu mocked him behind his back, saying that with how he was turning out, the Fu family wouldn’t be able to climb higher in the next decade. But this guy would play the part of a frivolous rich kid one second, and the next, once he stepped into the business world, he’d still utterly dominate you. Talk about frustrating!

Fu Nanyu swung his long leg over the race car, settling into the seat. Beside him was Li Chen, also clad in racing gear. He pulled on his gloves and fist-bumped Li Chen. “Let’s make a bet.”

Li Chen raised an eyebrow. “Sure!”

Neither of them noticed Ji Yunyin, a racer in the fourth lane, wearing a white racing suit and slightly slender in build, glancing their way.

As the flag girl at the starting line raised her flag and the gunshot rang out, all the cars tore off like hurricanes. Tires screeched against the ground, sending sparks flying, and the roar of engines filled the entire racetrack. When leaning into the curves, Fu Nanyu leaned so far that his body was almost parallel to the ground. To seize the advantage at each bend, the racers came within inches of each other.

Not only were the racers on edge, but the spectators were on edge, palms sweating. Every time Fu Nanyu’s knee nearly scraped the ground while leaning into a curve, Lu Jingtang’s heart skipped a beat.

The outcome gradually became clear. Fu Nanyu even threw a glance over his shoulder at the others after consecutive sharp turns—an extremely provocative move in racing. Li Chen, in second place, was closely pursued by the racer in third. He cursed under his breath, then accelerated forward.

As expected, Fu Nanyu took first place, while Li Chen narrowly secured second. The racer from the fourth lane came in third. Fu Nanyu removed his helmet, his dark hair damp with sweat. He swept his hair back with his hand, revealing his sharp features. The display of raw adrenaline was palpable, and the venue erupted with screams from the female spectators.

Li Chen also took off his helmet, laughing and cursing, “You’re a fucking beast! Even after all this time not racing, you’re still this fierce. So, what do you want?”

Fu Nanyu’s dark eyes gleamed, his voice hoarse from the intense exertion. “Send Li Song abroad. He’s not to return for five years.”

Li Chen frowned. “Why? Did he offend you?”

“I don’t like the look of him. Got a problem with that?” Fu Nanyu replied succinctly.

“Fine.” Li Chen smiled. He was just an illegitimate child anyway—easy to deal with. Previously, Li Chen hadn’t bothered with those upstarts, but if he really wanted to play, even Old Man Li couldn’t do anything about it.

Fu Nanyu glanced toward the stands and saw Lu Jingtang drinking water from a bottle while Qi Heng stood opposite her, talking animatedly. Just as he was about to head over, he heard Li Chen exclaim in surprise behind him.

    “Miss Ji.”

Ji Yunyin stood there in a white racing suit, her long, wavy hair cascading down her back. A light sweat glistened on her face, making her features stand out even more. She smiled faintly. “Hello, Mr. Li.” Then, curving her lips slightly, she added, “Oh, and Mr. Fu too, I almost forgot.”

Fu Nanyu didn’t even bat an eyelid, merely nodding faintly. Li Chen, however, struck up a conversation. “Not bad, Miss Ji. Your skills are on par with mine.”

“Not at all, I just play around when I’m bored,” Ji Yunyin replied, not once glancing in Fu Nanyu’s direction.

Lu Jingtang had spotted Ji Yunyin from the stands and was inwardly astonished. The female lead was impressive—she could even do this! In her previous life, the female lead had been fooled by her best friend and the original Lu Jingtang like an idiot. How did she become so capable after rebirth, as if she’d unblocked her meridians?

The staff had cleared the track, leaving no one else on the field except them. Qi Heng didn’t hold back teasing Li Chen. “What’s going on, Little Li? Even Miss Ji is better than you.”

Li Chen kicked him angrily. “Get lost!”

Ji Yunyin noticed Lu Jingtang’s surprised gaze and couldn’t help feeling a little proud. But when she looked back at Lu Jingtang, she saw no trace of jealousy or resentment—only a faint smile. Biting her lip, Ji Yunyin thought, *Lu Jingtang’s acting skills are even more refined than in her previous life.*

She didn’t know that Lu Jingtang was thinking, *Only if I act stupid enough can the wolf avoid targeting me.*

Qi Heng and Qi Yao had already descended from the stands, but Lu Jingtang remained, afraid to approach Fu Nanyu lest the female lead misunderstand.

Fortunately, Jian Wenzhu was there to keep her company.

But then Fu Nanyu looked up at her and crooked his finger, signaling her to come down. Lu Jingtang instinctively glanced at Ji Yunyin but didn’t move, instead leaning over the railing and stretching her neck to ask, “What is it, Big Brother?”

    “Come down.”

Lu Jingtang suggested, “We can talk like this.”

“Come down.” Fu Nanyu’s gaze hardened, leaving no room for argument.

Little Deer immediately caved. “Okay, Big Brother.” *You’d better have a good reason.*

Under Ji Yunyin’s murderous glare, she hurried down the steps and approached Fu Nanyu. “Big Brother, what instructions do you have for me?”

To her surprise, Fu Nanyu smirked and flicked her forehead. “Why are you so spaced out? Tired?”

Lu Jingtang covered her forehead, with a vague sense of guilt she couldn’t quite place. She inwardly panicked, *Big Brother, your wife is right behind you! Don’t drag me into this!* “No,” she replied.

Noticing her frequent glances toward Ji Yunyin, Fu Nanyu raised an eyebrow. He could tell she seemed afraid of Ji Yunyin. His low, husky voice held a hint of teasing. “So scared of her? What wrong have you done this time?”

Lu Jingtang whispered in defense, “I haven’t done anything.”

“Lu Jingtang, as long as I’m here, what is there for you to fear?” Fu Nanyu’s dark eyes gleamed, a silent laughter dancing in their depths. His tone was arrogant, as if he could shield her from all harm.

Her mind short-circuited for a moment, leaving her flustered. After a dazed pause, she stammered, “I... uh... right, I need to use the restroom.”

With that, she turned and fled.
