Chapter 100: Nervous Because I Care

Rumors about the Xie and Fu families spread like wildfire. Before netizens could witness an official announcement of a marriage alliance between the two families, the romantic relationship between the current head of the Fu family and his adopted daughter was exposed.

Not only were entertainment blogs flooded with photos of Fu Nanyu and Lu Jingtang holding hands while visiting Hong Kong, but the story also dominated the top two spots on the economic news headlines.

Lu Jingtang was initially unaware. While in a meeting with colleagues, she looked up and noticed many people secretly glancing at their phones, their eyes occasionally darting in her direction. The quiet meeting room was filled with soft, sharp intakes of breath.

Bewildered, she turned and whispered to Lin Yixiao beside her, “Did someone fart? Why is everyone gasping?”

Lin Yixiao, who had also been looking at her phone, glanced up at Lu Jingtang, then back at her screen, and took a deep breath herself.

Lu Jingtang: ??? Did she look like she caused the gasps? Why did everyone seem to gasp upon seeing her?

Realizing that Lu Jingtang was clearly still in the dark, Lin Yixiao nudged her shoulder and discreetly slid her phone over.

Lu Jingtang looked down and it was her turn to gasp. On the screen was a clear photo of her and Fu Nanyu strolling in Hong Kong, their fingers interlaced. Fu Nanyu was looking down at her, his usually cool eyes appearing unusually soft, with a faint layer of warmth shimmering within them.

“Psst…” Lin Yixiao secretly gave her a thumbs-up. She had previously thought Lu Jingtang’s daily trips to the top floor were purely for innocent lunch breaks. Little did she know she was also having… the boss…

Lu Jingtang silently covered her face. Of all times for these photos to surface, it had to be now. She truly doubted it happened without Fu Nanyu’s approval.

Minister Zhou, noticing their subtle movements from the front, feigned sternness and tapped the table. “Some people shouldn’t think I can’t see them daydreaming or messing around. Especially Lin Yixiao, and Lu Jingtang!”

The entire meeting room collectively held their breath, silently mourning for Minister Zhou. Using the future lady boss as an example? That was risky!

Minister Zhou, confused by their sympathetic looks, cleared his throat lightly. “Let’s continue the meeting.”

After the meeting, colleagues near the back door opened it first, only to immediately step back, causing a bottleneck at the door as people piled into each other.

“What’s going on? Why are you blocking the door?” those behind asked loudly, unable to see outside.

The first guy who faced the scene directly gulped and stammered, “P-P-President Fu…”

Everyone behind instantly cleared a path, all turning to look at Lu Jingtang, practically wishing they could roll out a red carpet to escort her out.

Lu Jingtang stepped out and saw Fu Nanyu waiting there. He wore an impeccably tailored suit that hugged his figure, emphasizing his broad shoulders and narrow waist. The fabric hinted at long, muscular legs, every contour exuding a potent masculine charm.

He looked up, his dark eyes locking onto hers. He nodded to the employees greeting him, then walked over, took her hand, and said to Minister Zhou, “I need to borrow her for a moment.”

Minister Zhou stared at their joined hands, swallowing hard. “Sure, sure.”

Her cheeks burning under everyone’s gaze, Lu Jingtang meekly let him lead her away.

Once inside the elevator, she relaxed. She looked up into Fu Nanyu’s dark eyes, which held a trace of nervousness. Puffing her cheeks, she pretended to be angry. “Why did you come down?”

Fu Nanyu lowered his gaze, his eyes intently focused on her. “I was afraid you’d be angry. I couldn’t help but want to see you.”

Lu Jingtang asked, “Are you regretting it because you’re afraid I’ll be angry?”

Fu Nanyu leaned down, his forehead touching hers. His voice was slow, deep, each word seeming to brush against her eardrums. “I don't regret it. Letting everyone know you’re mine means you can’t run away.”

“Only a fool would regret having someone as handsome as you,” Lu Jingtang muttered under her breath.

Hearing her response, Fu Nanyu let out a low, pleased chuckle. Lu Jingtang, who had a low threshold for laughter, found her own words amusing and couldn’t help but curve her eyes into smiling crescents, her pupils glistening.

Lu Jingtang led him into his office, took a tissue, and carefully wiped his slightly damp palms—damp from nervousness.

As she wiped, she whispered softly, “Why are you so nervous?”

“Hmm, I care, so I’m nervous,” Fu Nanyu held her firmly in his arms. Love makes people weak; even the most composed person can feel like they’re drowning in it.

What he feared more were those dreams, the fear that one day she would vanish from his life as in his dreams, leaving him able to sense her presence but unable to see or touch her, forced to numbly watch memories of her fade day by day.

Lu Jingtang’s heart softened. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed his Adam’s apple. “Then I’ll be even better to you.”

Fu Nanyu readily accepted: “Good. How about you work on your stamina? I’m afraid you’ll fall asleep again before we even get to the bottom of things.”

Lu Jingtang didn’t immediately grasp his meaning. Her eyes looked blank for a moment before understanding dawned, causing her cheeks to flush crimson from head to toe. Embarrassed and annoyed, she sputtered, “Ah! Stop talking! I’m going to bite your head off!”

Fu Nanyu held out his hand for her to bite, whispering temptingly by her ear, “Bite however you want. Bite wherever you want.”

Lu Jingtang struggled, pretending to try and escape. “Ooh, you’re so perverted.”

    “You’re not allowed to leave!”

After work, on their way home, Lu Jingtang stood outside the front door, puffing her cheeks and taking deep breaths to psych herself up.

Fu Nanyu chuckled lightly, took her hand, and led her into the courtyard. “No need to be nervous.”

Fu Xiaqing, timing it perfectly, was already waiting at the door. Seeing the two enter hand-in-hand, he coughed heavily and put on a stern face. “Lu Youyou, you come here first.”

Lu Jingtang sneakily glanced at Fu Nanyu but obediently went over.

Ye Xixi pulled her close, cupping her face and looking her over left and right, her eyes brimming with joy. “Wonderful! My precious granddaughter is sure to be as beautiful as Youyou.”

Lu Jingtang had come under Ye Xixi’s care at age three. Although she didn’t call her ‘Mom,’ Ye Xixi truly treated her like her own daughter. She had been somewhat reluctant about her marrying away, but now, this was perfect.

Lu Jingtang hadn’t expected such enthusiastic acceptance. Her cheeks were rubbed red.

Well… having a baby was still far off. And given Ye Xixi’s track record of bearing three sons, the probability of having a daughter seemed rather low.

Chen Ma chimed in happily from the side, “I bought lots of brightly colored yarn. It’ll definitely suit the little miss.”

Chen Ma’s parents had also been staff in the Fu household. She grew up with the Fu family and naturally stayed on to serve them as an adult, never marrying or having children of her own. She had watched the three Fu brothers grow up, and they had all worn sweaters she crocheted.

Despite her staff status, her assets surpassed those of many corporate executives. The Fu family never treated her as merely a servant.

They treated her with genuine kindness, and she reciprocated wholeheartedly. Seeing Fu Nanyu and his brothers marry and have children would bring her more joy than anyone else.

Ye Xixi listened, equally delighted, and eagerly began discussing with Chen Ma how best to decorate the nursery.

Lu Jingtang felt a bit dizzy listening to it all. She instinctively glanced down at her stomach, almost suspecting she might actually be pregnant.
