Chapter 23: Heading to a Hotel Room

Upon the dusky highway, the lingering sunset resembled crimson blood.

Feng Shuo drove, glancing through the rearview mirror with concern at Huo Tingcheng in the backseat, who had survived the accident.

Huo Tingcheng was barely holding back his madness, his entire body trembling uncontrollably.

Yun Mu had initially intended to take his pulse but was startled to find him burning with an alarming fever.

    "You have a fever?"

In the front seat, Feng Shuo, upon hearing this, immediately turned around in alarm.

"The Young Master has a fever? Young Master Lu mentioned that if the Young Master were to have a fever during an emotional outburst, he could easily lose all sanity! I'll call Young Master Lu right away!"

Yun Mu ignored Feng Shuo and reached out to touch Huo Tingcheng's forehead.

"It's not a fever. It's just a result of oxygen deprivation due to excessive pressure on his brain nerves causing his body to heat up. Feng Shuo, roll down the window!"

Yun Mu spoke, attempting to undo He Tingcheng's shirt buttons at the same time.

Unexpectedly, she was forcefully pushed away, crashing heavily against the car window!

    "Scram, don't touch me!"

Her face darkened under the fierce glare of his bloodshot eyes.

"Don't bite the hand that feeds you. If you don't want to lose your mind on this busy street, listen to me!"

He Tingcheng froze, staring intently at the woman before him, his gaze as deep as an abyss.

The familiar scent, the familiar gaze—it was her!

    "It's you, you're back!"

He suddenly reached out to wrap his arms around Yun Mu's slim waist, tightening his grip gradually. His warm lips landed on the nape of her neck, his voice dry and hoarse, "I finally found you..."

A cold glint flickered in Yun Mu's eyes.

"I'm not the woman you're looking for!"

She abruptly pushed away Huo Tingcheng.

Unprepared for her force, the ailing Huo Tingcheng was unable to resist and crashed into the car window with a thud. He grunted in pain, a flicker of suffering crossing his face.

In front, Feng Shuo immediately slammed on the brakes, turning to look at Huo Tingcheng with concern before fiercely glaring at Yun Mu.

"What are you doing, Madam? Even if Young Master has mistaken someone, he's still ill right now. Do you know that such a jolt could potentially cost him his life?"

Yun Mu paused, guilt flashing across her face.

She didn't understand why she had gotten so angry just then.

Was it because Huo Tingcheng had hugged her, or because he had mistaken her for another woman?

The impact seemed to have somewhat restored Huo Tingcheng's consciousness.

    "Keep driving!"

His gaze was icy, his tone chilling.

The atmosphere inside the car was tense.

Huo Tingcheng sat farther away from Yun Mu, deliberately creating distance. He leaned against the window with restraint, his pale and ill-looking handsome face devoid of any color, beads of cold sweat trickling down.

The impact of Yun Mu's push on his temple had caused his headache to intensify significantly.

Yun Mu's heart was filled with mixed emotions at the sight of him—she felt both guilt and a hint of guilt.

After all, this man had fallen ill because he had stood up for her.

The once mighty Female War Goddess was now being protected by someone else; such a scene was unexpected.

Certain feelings were beginning to stir within her, though Yun Mu was yet to grasp their true nature.

"Are you in pain? Let me help."

Unable to shake off her guilt, Yun Mu reached out proactively, intending to massage his temples.

Unexpectedly, Huo Tingcheng brushed her aside, the impact landing precisely on her wounded palm.

    "Hisss—"

Yun Mu gasped, feeling the wound tear open and blood flow once more.

Huo Tingcheng lifted his eyelids, his expression turning icy in an instant.

"Didn't you say you know medicine? Didn't you think to tend to your own wound first?"

Scolding her, Huo Tingcheng hastily tore a corner of his shirt to wrap around her palm, stemming the bleeding.

Yun Mu was about to say that it was just a minor injury, but seeing his earnestness as he dressed her wound, she allowed him to hold her hand.

However, the scent of blood stirred Huo Tingcheng once more.

He abruptly pulled away from Yun Mu, clutching his head and groaning softly.

As Yun Mu leaned closer, she saw that Huo Tingcheng was now in such agony that he was biting his lower lip so hard it had already bled, the sight both startling and distressing.

"How much longer until we reach the hospital?" Yun Mu panicked.

"Feng Shuo says we can't go to the hospital; it won't make a difference," replied Feng Shuo. "Young Master Lu is almost here, and he has medicine with him."

"This is no time for that! We need to get to the hospital; I have a way!" Yun Mu's face flushed with anger.

Huo Tingcheng weakly opened his eyes, each breath causing him pain.

Looking into the determined gaze of the girl beside him, he suddenly felt that she might truly be his salvation.

Suddenly, the roar of an approaching car echoed in the distance. Feng Shuo exclaimed, "It's Young Master Lu!"

The car pulled over, and Lu Nansen stepped out with a grave expression, ready to examine Huo Tingcheng.

"Damn it, his condition is worsening. My medication might not be enough to control it," said Lu Nansen solemnly. "We'll have to use a stronger sedative to stabilize him first."

"No!" Yun Mu rejected the idea decisively. "Sedatives will only cause more harm to his body."

"But if we continue like this, he'll lose control sooner or later!" argued Lu Nansen. "There's no other choice but the sedative!"

Yun Mu was as cold as ice. "That's because you're incompetent. Move aside!"

She suddenly stood up and rummaged through the medical kit that Lu Nansen had brought. After selecting two vials of medicine, she mixed them and prepared to inject them into Hao Tingcheng.

Seeing this, Lu Nansen's expression changed, and he tried to stop her. "What are you doing? These two medicines are incompatible. Using them together will cause rejection!"

"But they're dealing with an abnormal situation. Is someone who's severely poisoned considered normal?"

With that said, Yun Mu lifted her delicate hand, aimed at Hao Tingcheng's vein, and swiftly pierced it.

Feng Shuo and Lu Nansen didn't even have time to intervene!

    "Master!"

    "Tingcheng!"

Fortunately, after a few painful struggles, Hao Tingcheng's brows relaxed, and his severe headache gradually vanished. He then fell into a weak, unconscious sleep...

Feng Shuo heaved a sigh of relief.

"Well…" Lu Nansen was taken aback before he gave Yun Mu a thumbs up in admiration. "Mrs. Young Master Shao is brilliant! Rumors truly can't be trusted!"

Yun Mu glanced at him and then asked Feng Shuo, "Where to now? Back to the Huo family's old residence?"

"Feng Shuo can't possibly return to the old residence in his current state," Feng Shuo replied.

Huo Tingcheng's condition of going into fits of madness was a closely guarded secret.

Lu Nansen checked his phone and said, "Easy fix. There's a five-star hotel just three kilometers away."

"Go to a hotel for a room?" Yun Mu gasped.

Lu Nansen turned back to her with a teasing look. "We're already husband and wife, what's wrong with getting a room?"

    Yun Mu was speechless.

    They were fake spouses!

"Mrs. Young Master, there are paparazzi tailing us. If we go home now, Young Master's identity will be exposed," Feng Shuo warned.

Indeed, it was true that no one knew the CEO of the Emperor's Dynasty Group was actually the rumored consumptive eldest son of the Hao family.

It was absolutely not the time to return to the Hao residence.

Yun Mu wasn't an overly sentimental person. After a moment's contemplation, she promptly nodded. "Alright, let's go to a hotel!"

Lu Nansen returned to his nonchalant demeanor and teased, "Relax, with his current state, he won't be able to do anything to you."

"Shut up!" Yun Mu rebuked coldly.
