Chapter 404: Li Moran Puts on Airs

Yi Jue gave Yun Mu a probing glance, and when she winked at him, he instantly grasped her plan.
Was she trying to get info about her mom from Li Moran?
She was likely to be disappointed.
Seeing Yun Mu agree so readily, Li Moran immediately had the servants make a restaurant reservation, and they all drove straight to the restaurant.
Before leaving, Xuanyuan Ming gave Li Moran a warning glance. "You'd better not have any ulterior motives regarding Yun Mu!"
Li Moran, unconcerned, simply curled her lip slightly.
Yun Mu couldn't figure out why Li Moran was going to such lengths to keep her for dinner today, but since she had deliberately brought up her mother, she was happy to play along.
Her eyes looked like her mother's?
What a load of bull!
She was currently in Yun Xiaosha's body, so if there was any resemblance, it would be to Lin Wanqing, certainly not her mother.
But Yun Mu really wanted to know, even if it was just a few scraps of info about her mom...
Inside the restaurant, the crystal chandeliers sparkled, reflecting off the mirrored walls. The place was nearly empty, with soft piano music filling the air.
Sitting in the window seat, Yi Jue's face was bathed in light. He paid no attention to Li Moran's words, only keeping his gaze fixed on Yun Mu, who was engaging Li Moran in conversation.
"Mrs. Li just said she was a schoolmate of my mother. From the way you talk, it sounds like you knew my mom pretty well?" Yun Mu looked at Li Moran.
Yun Mu looked at her in silence.
"But it’s true that your mother passed away from illness not long after you were born. And given how cold and ruthless the old family head was, it’s no surprise he never mentioned your mother to you. It’s no wonder you don’t know much about her."
Li Moran’s words felt like rubbing salt into her wounds, but fortunately, Yun Mu had inherited her father’s cold-hearted nature, so she didn’t feel particularly sad.
"Mrs. Li is correct. Now that the meal is almost finished, why don’t you tell me about my mother?"
Li Moran smiled, "I meant that you don’t know anything about your mother because she wasn’t close to anyone."
"What do you mean?"
"Your mother, Yuan Qinge, was raised as the future head of the Yun family’s child bride from a young age. Wherever she went, she was surrounded by bodyguards, and no one could even get near her. She had no friends or relatives and never spoke to anyone at school." Li Moran countered, "Do you think she and I could have been close?"
A cold glint flashed in the corner of Yun Mu’s eyes, "Are you messing with me?"
Li Moran claimed to know her mother, but she tricked her into coming over for a meal and casual chat?
"I only said I knew your mother. I never said I understood her. Miss Yun, you’re taking my words out of context," Li Moran asserted confidently.
Trying to split hairs with me?
Yun Mu’s chest heaved slightly in anger, and the atmosphere in the restaurant suddenly dropped.
Suddenly, Yi Jue threw down his chopsticks, creating a crisp sound. "Since that’s the case, this meal is over." With that, Yi Jue took Yun Mu’s hand and prepared to stand up.
Yun Mu didn’t move, her gaze fixed on Li Moran. "Do you have a photo of my mother?"
Just knowing what my mother looked like would be enough for her.
But Li Moran shook her head. "No."
Fine, then there’s no point in continuing this meal.
Yun Mu took a handkerchief and wiped her hands, then looked at Xuanyuan Ming. "Mr. Xuanyuan, excuse me."
Li Moran sneered. "Is this how you show respect? Leaving before the elder has even put down their chopsticks?"
Yun Mu had tolerated her long enough. "Respect is earned, not given freely."
Li Moran scoffed. "Miss Yun certainly doesn’t need to pay any attention to me, a mere woman. After all, you are the high and mighty head of the Yun family. But as the head of the family, shouldn’t you focus on maintaining the Yun family’s dignity instead of demeaning yourself by trying to steal someone else’s fiancé?"
Yi Jue’s face darkened, and he kicked the chair beside him aside.
Yi Jue’s expression turned grim, and he stood up, clearly ready to leave.
Li Moran sneered. "Are you ignoring me, Miss Yun?"
Xuanyuan Xue was taken aback, never expecting Li Moran to say such things to Yun Mu, especially in front of Yi Jue.
She quickly pulled on Li Moran’s sleeve. "Mom, what are you saying? Big brother is free to like whoever he wants, and he broke up with Liu Ling a long time ago!"
"But as far as I know, it’s not that simple. To Yi Jue, Liu Ling wasn’t just an ex-girlfriend; she was his savior, the one who saved his life. And yet, you’ve turned her into a laughingstock in Nancheng, an outcast from the Yi family. She’s living a life worse than death, forced to fend for herself." Li Moran’s eyes shifted towards another direction.
Everyone followed Li Moran’s gaze to the corner of the restaurant, where a young woman sat quietly, playing the piano with a sad expression. The piano music in the restaurant was coming from Liu Ling.
Xuanyuan Ming turned his head and glared fiercely at Li Moran, "Is this the reason you brought us here for dinner?"
Yi Jue was slightly stunned when he saw Liu Ling's figure.
He lightly curled his lips and confidently put his arm around Yun Mu's shoulders, addressing Xuanyuan Ming and Li Moran, "Since we've come this far in the conversation, I'll be straightforward. I've recognized Yun Mu as the only woman in my life, and she will be with me sooner or later. As for Liu Ling, I've already compensated the Liu family fairly and am trying to find a cure for her illness. It's her choice to work and earn money, and that's none of my business. But Mrs. Li..."
Yi Jue's gaze toward Li Moran turned increasingly cold, "What benefits did Liu Ling and the Yi family give you to make you speak up for her repeatedly?"
Li Moran calmly withdrew her gaze and coldly scoffed, "No one gave me any benefits, but I am indeed standing up for Miss Liu because I know better than anyone the feeling of having your fiancé stolen by someone else!"
Li Moran's implication caused everyone present to change their expressions again.
Xuanyuan Ming was so pissed off that he started coughing, and Xuanyuan Xue, while supporting Xuanyuan Ming, looked at Li Moran, "Mom, what exactly do you want to do?! What do you gain from causing all this trouble?!"
"What do you mean, there’s no benefit? After all these years, Mrs. Li's specialty has been stirring up trouble and taking advantage of the chaos," Yun Mu stepped forward and whispered next to Li Moran, "Unfortunately, this time I won't let you succeed!"
Li Moran shuddered under Yun Mu’s cold, mocking gaze.
It was as if Yun Mu knew everything she had done half a year ago in the capital and twenty-seven years ago...
"I'll remember this 'lesson' from Mrs. Li today. Rest assured, I’ll make sure to repay you for your ‘wise’ advice."
With a smile that didn't reach her eyes, Yun Mu picked up her bag and left.
She had been tricked into coming here and humiliated by Li Moran's snide remarks; she couldn’t bear to stay in this place a moment longer!
Before leaving, she shot Liu Ling a cold, disdainful look.
Clearly, these two had planned this together to annoy her.
Did Li Moran really think that by stirring things up, she would make me fight with Yi Jue?
