Although Yun Mu did not know who was watching her, she had some guesses.
"Soup is still cooking at home. Let's go back first. We've seen it all before; we won't be scared by a petty thief."
Huo Tingying frowned and said solemnly, "I'll have Feng Shuo investigate immediately. Whoever it is, we'll find them!"
"Alright, but I dropped the scallions and cilantro when I ran. Can you come with me to buy more?" Yun Mu raised an eyebrow.
Huo Tingying nodded, holding her hand as they walked back.
Yun Mu glanced back at the overpass behind her and the darkening night sky, lost in thought.
Meanwhile, in a rustic guesthouse on the outskirts of the empire.
Si Nanjue finally opened his eyes from unconsciousness. He rubbed his temples and looked around the sealed room, instantly recalling everything that had happened over the past ten days.
He had just sent a farewell text to Yun Mu and was about to drive to the airport when he was knocked out and locked in this room.
Every time he woke up, he was injected with drugs and fell unconscious again.
Taking advantage of his current clarity, he dragged his weak body up and pounded on the door.
"Someone, let me out!"
He expected another dose of sedatives, but instead, the door opened directly, and a young man wearing a hat said, "The master wants to see you. Follow me."
Si Nanjue did not hesitate, following the young man despite his weakened state.
The guesthouse was vast and decorated in an elegant, antique style.
On the stage, a play was being performed, and the box facing the stage had its dark red carved door slightly ajar.
Inside, the dimly lit room held a crimson bench, on which a man in a black trench coat sat with his legs crossed. Due to the lighting and angle, Si Nanjue could only see his profile.
The man's gaze was fixed on the play, his expression intrigued, his slender fingers tapping lightly on the chair's armrest. Beside him were delicately crafted pastries and a teacup.
Si Nanjue quickly surveyed the layout, realizing there was no way out even if he tried.
"Who are you, kidnapping someone so brazenly in the capital?"
The man put a finger to his lips, signaling silence, saying, "Shh, the exciting part is coming. Watch first."
On the stage, a valiant princess was fighting bravely against her enemy, who happened to be her brother. Despite their blood ties, they fought over the throne.
In the end, the princess defeated the prince and became the most revered queen.
"Enjoying it?" The man gestured towards the stage, "This plot is specially prepared for you. Does it feel familiar?"
Si Nanjue, "I'm not interested in plays. What do you want? Money? Fine, I can give you..."
"Money?" The man seemed amused, "It seems you've forgotten everything."
Si Nanjue's eyes flickered, as if not understanding.
The man chuckled, tapping his knuckles on the table.
Several men in black approached, forcefully pinning Si Nanjue against the wall and binding him there, attaching electrodes to his limbs and head.
Throughout the process, Si Nanjue was powerless to resist.
After intermittent periods of unconsciousness over the past ten days, he barely had the strength to speak.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
"To help you remember your past, to make you remember who you are," the man said.
Si Nanjue laughed bitterly, "I know exactly who I am, Si Nanjue, the illegitimate son of the Si family!"
"Is that so? Are you sure that's your only identity? Yunzhe!"
The man's words made Si Nanjue's breath catch, his entire body stiffening.
Yunzhe.
He had heard this name before, Yun Mu had called him that once.
At the time, he dismissed it as Yun Mu mistaking him for someone else. But hearing it now from this man, Si Nanjue felt a surge of fear and coldness, making him shudder involuntarily.
A deep-seated aversion to this name emerged from within him, making him want to escape upon hearing it.
"You could have continued being Si Nanjue in the capital. It's unfortunate that person didn't die and came back. This world needs someone to control her, and that someone is you."
The man sipped his tea, leaning back in his chair, and said earnestly, "So, return to being who you truly are."
With that, he made a gesture.
His subordinates immediately flipped the switch.
In the next instant, a soul-wrenching scream erupted from Si Nanjue's mouth.
"Zzz—"
The intense electric shock caused Si Nanjue's veins to bulge, the blue veins on his neck standing out prominently!
Si Nanjue gritted his teeth, suddenly opening his icy eyes.
"You're insane! Let me go!"
The man opposite remained unmoved and even said, "He still has the strength to shout. Increase the voltage, but don't kill him."
"Crazy bastard! Let me go! I'm not Yunzhe; I'm Si Nanjue!" Si Nanjue panted as he struggled to scream.
The man sneered coldly, "When you regain your memory, come tell me who you are. Don't worry, it won't be long before you become Yunzhe again—about half a month..."
Another half a month of electric shocks?
"Go to hell..."
Immediately, another round of electric shocks began. Si Nanjue's face turned deathly pale as he gritted his teeth, trying hard to endure the pain brought by the current.
However, he soon found that under the stimulation of the electric current, some blurry and hazy images seemed to appear in his mind.
But when he tried to focus on the people and events in these images, he discovered that everything was shrouded in fog, making it impossible to see clearly...
What was happening? Was he hallucinating from the electric shocks?
The person beside him noticed his dazed and unfocused eyes and immediately took out a syringe to inject something into him.
"Master, we can only go this far today. Any more electric shocks might have the opposite effect."
The man finally stood up and walked a few steps closer, sizing up the already disoriented Si Nanjue.
His eyes gleamed with the sharpness of a sniper and the ferocity of a beast, especially in the dim light, making them eerily bright!
"Take him away. Give him some nutrient solutions to keep him alive. Watch him closely. If he escapes, we won't be able to catch him again." The man instructed.
His subordinate nodded, "Understood."
Once the renowned Yunzhe of the Yun family, everyone knew his skills. It was fine if he hadn't regained his memory yet, but if he remembered everything, he would be an unstoppable wolf!
The man continued to stare at the ongoing play on the stage, his smile becoming increasingly sinister.
"Soon, everything will return to normal. Yunzhe, Yun Mu, I look forward to your reunion..."
