Chapter 79: Huo Jinzhou’s Suspicion
by 叶微摇Chapter 79: Huo Jinzhou's Suspicion
As Huo Tingying's car pulled away from Imperial Capital University, he spotted Huo Jinzhou's vehicle approaching.
Yun Mu clicked her tongue. "Good thing we left quickly; otherwise, your cover would have been blown."
Huo Tingying, steering with one hand, glanced at Yun Mu.
"Worried about me?" His voice was low and husky.
Yun Mu turned her head, her clear eyes sweeping over the man beside her before narrowing. "You can call it worry if you like, but..."
Leaning closer, her eyes shimmered with a seductive smile that was dazzling yet exuded an intangible pressure.
"President Yi, what other identities do you have that I don't know about?"
She had wanted to ask earlier. This man surnamed Huo, how did Yun Shuiyao address him as President Yi?
"My identity as the president of Emperor Group uses my mother's surname, Yi."
Yun Mu's bewitching fox-like eyes narrowed.
So Huo Tingying's mother's surname was Yi.
This surname was rare in China but belonged to a splendid family on the Southern Mystic Continent.
However... Huo Tingying's mother shouldn't have any connection to the Southern Mystic Continent.
At a red light, Huo Tingying stopped the car, his eyes narrowed like a tranquil pond, staring at her as if he were a beast ready to conquer new territories.
"I also have a question for you. I heard you were tone-deaf as a child, yet you play the violin well."
Yun Mu knew she couldn't avoid this interrogation.
"When I was young, I didn't understand music, but after regaining my senses, I felt as if I had divine assistance, learning everything quickly. Perhaps it's the mercy of the heavens." Yun Mu said calmly.
Huo Tingying's gaze lingered on her, seemingly appraising.
This little woman could fabricate excuses effortlessly.
Not a single word of truth.
Glancing at her seemingly casual and arrogant posture, Huo Tingying spoke.
"Did you learn your manners in a sanatorium? But they don't seem like the style of a young lady from Imperial Capital; rather, they resemble the demeanor of a mysterious ancient martial arts family..."
Yun Mu's body stiffened slightly, subtly adjusting her posture as she replied calmly, "When I was young, I wasn't mentally sound and hadn't learned manners. These are all things I taught myself by reading."
"Hmm, so you've learned quite a lot then," Huo Tingying smiled lightly, his attitude ambiguous.
Yun Mu maintained her composure, feigning anger as she asked, "What? You don't believe me either? Are you questioning whether I'm really Yun Mu?"
Huo Tingying glanced at her, smiling. "Does it matter if it's true or not? All I know is that the person I entrust my life to is the you right here."
Yun Mu's breath caught.
This... why did it feel like a confession?
Huo Tingying looked at the stunned woman beside him, his lips curving subtly.
Seemingly shrewd, yet sometimes a bit naive.
Like a round and plump dumpling.
...
At Imperial Capital University.
The anniversary celebration had ended, and surprisingly, Yun Heshu had left without waiting for Yun Shuiyao, leaving her infuriated to the point of biting her gums until they bled.
At that moment, commotion arose at the school gate.
Yun Shuiyao looked over and saw Huo Jinzhou.
Dressed in a suit, Huo Jinzhou's upright figure exuded extraordinary charm, standing by his car like a cold aristocrat from a medieval oil painting, dark and aloof.
Yun Shuiyao recalled Wen Yi's words, her eyes flickering before she limped over hastily.
"Jinzhou, did you come to pick me up?"
Huo Jinzhou glanced at Yun Shuiyao's leg, a hint of impatience flashing in his dark eyes as he pursed his lips unhappily. "Get in the car."
He had already learned about Yun Shuiyao's argument with Wen Yi, which only added to his growing disappointment in his fiancée.
Yun Shuiyao was taken aback. In the past, upon seeing her injured, Huo Jinzhou would have surely approached her with concern, but now, he didn't even bother to help her into the car, not even for appearances' sake.
This was in broad daylight!
Yun Shuiyao bit her lip and got into the car herself.
Huo Jinzhou started the car and asked indifferently, "It's not like you to argue over an opening act. Give me a reason."
"And you? Why did you meet Yun Mu alone? That's not like you either."
Despite having a better candidate in mind, Yun Shuiyao would never allow Huo Jinzhou to abandon her for Yun Mu.
Her eyes reddened as she choked out, "Jinzhou, you used to never speak to me so coldly. Is it because Yun Mu has returned that you're treating me like this?"
Zhou Jinzhou furrowed his brows, but his tone was softer than before as he explained, "How could it be? I met her only to use her against Huo Tingying, that sickly wretch."
"Really?"
"What else could it be? Do you think I would have any improper thoughts about an ugly and heartless woman?" Zhou Jinzhou sneered, as if speaking to himself, "A woman like Mu Yun isn't even fit to carry my shoes!"
Yao Yunshui's expression improved considerably.
It made sense; how could Zhou Jinzhou, such a proud man, truly take a fancy to Mu Yun, that hideous creature?
"With your words, I'm relieved." Yao Yunshui leaned her face on Zhou Jinzhou's shoulder and asked, "Did she agree to deal with Huo Tingying?"
If Mu Yun really agreed to handle Huo Tingying, it would give her leverage over that wretched woman.
Zhou Jinzhou glanced at the woman resting on his shoulder, subtly frowning, "She refused. That woman isn't so easily swayed."
Yao Yunshui stood up, scoffing in disdain, "Playing the role of the young mistress of the Huo family while seducing the President of the Emperor Group—she sure knows how to play her cards! Jinzhou, what terms did you offer her?"
If the conditions were right, she didn't believe that wretched woman would resist!
Zhou Jinzhou turned his head, lifting his eyelids to gaze deeply at Yao Yunshui, "Mama Zhang, the sole eyewitness to the fire that year."
Yao Yunshui's heart skipped a beat, and she exclaimed softly, "You mean you found Mama Zhang? Didn't Mama Zhang disappear? How could she reappear?"
Yao Yunshui fired three questions in quick succession.
Zhou Jinzhou's hawk-like eyes narrowed as he stared at Yao Yunshui, "Mama Zhang is already in Mu Yun's hands. She said there were hidden circumstances behind the fire that year. Yao'er, was the fire really started by Mu Yun?"
The probing in Zhou Jinzhou's words was too obvious.
Yao Yunshui regained her composure almost instantly.
Mama Zhang had already fallen into Mu Yun's hands. If she knew anything, she must have already told Mu Yun. Given Mu Yun's character, she would have surely turned the Yun family upside down by now.
Mu Yun's inaction could only mean one thing: either she didn't know the truth yet, or she lacked evidence.
In an instant,
Yao Yunshui's expression returned to normal. She seemed to recall the situation back then before shaking her head.
"I wasn't at the scene of the fire back then. Even after learning the truth, I didn't want to believe it was my sister who did it. But since Father said it was her, it must have been her. After all, Father wouldn't wrong his own daughter."
This explanation was flawless.
Zhou Jinzhou didn't press the topic further, but he felt instinctively that Yao Yunshui was lying.
What hidden circumstances surrounded the Yun family's fire?
