Chapter 42: Refusing to Become an Apprentice
byChapter 42: Refusing to Become an Apprentice
"It's rare to see eyes so piercing and full of stories. If you could paint, your work would surely be extraordinary," Lady Si lamented with regret.
Yun Mu simply smiled nonchalantly.
Yun Shuiyao promptly offered herself, "Grandma Si, I've been learning to paint since I was young. If you're considering taking on an apprentice, why not consider me? I've brought some of my recent works. Would you like to take a look, Grandma?"
However, Lady Si waved her hand dismissively. After only a brief glance into Yun Shuiyao's eyes, she shook her head. "Painting requires a tranquil heart, but I don't see that in Miss Yun's eyes."
Implied in his words was that Yun Shuiyao's heart wasn't at peace, thus she couldn't possibly paint well.
Upon hearing this, Yun Shuiyao was initially startled, then her eyes reddened with unwillingness.
Without even casting a glance at her painting, how could he tell that she couldn't paint well?
Isn't this deliberate humiliation?
Madam Si was highly respected in the art circle, and the Si family was an influential aristocratic clan. She dared not argue back and could only endure it.
Yun Shuiyao was put in her place, which naturally delighted Yun Mu.
However, with so many people present, she couldn't afford to laugh too ostentatiously.
Yun Mu then turned her attention to the old physician, who was desperately trying to blend into the crowd. In just a few strides, she stood before him. "Old man, since I've cured Madam Si, it's time for you to keep your promise, isn't it?"
The old physician clenched his teeth, caught between a rock and a hard place. He never imagined that this young girl actually possessed such skills.
He wished he could bite off his own tongue!
"Um... at that time, I was overly concerned about Madam Si's safety, and it wasn't that I..."
Yun Mu scoffed. "I don't care about your excuses. I'm a person with a narrow mind, and your constant questioning of my medical abilities just now has made me very unhappy. Moreover, one must accept defeat when they lose a bet! Go on, shout it out loudly!"
The old physician's face turned ashen. "You..."
At that moment, some of the old man's disciples couldn't bear to witness the scene and stepped forward to speak up.
"Young lady," said a young man in a suit, "how can you be so intimidating towards an elderly person? Where is your manners and upbringing?"
Yun Mu scoffed. "Why is it aggressive to speak based on my abilities? Besides, it was this old man who insulted me first."
By now, Madam Si had learned the details of the incident from her attendants and her expression turned cold. She harrumphed. "Professor Zhang, you're also a respected figure in the medical field and a role model as an educator. You can't go back on your words, can you? From today onwards, withdraw from the medical community!"
"Indeed, indeed!" With Madam Si's order, the elderly physician had no choice but to comply.
Seeing this, Yun Mu curved her lips into a smile and said magnanimously, "Since you've decided to leave the medical world, I won't hold that against you. Forget about the three times you called me a fool!"
The old physician's mouth twitched. This was not holding a grudge?
Yet today, he was outshone by a young girl who hadn't even completed junior high school. He felt utterly humiliated and promptly slunk away with a dusty face.
Huo Tingcheng, on the other hand, stood quietly by, his gaze fixated on the vivacious young woman before him. His eyes, like ink dots, seemed to hold a world of depth.
This woman was becoming more intriguing by the moment...
Yun Shuiyao observed the way Huo Tingcheng looked at Yun Mu, her jealousy raging within her.
It was one thing to captivate the President of the Divine Jade Corporation.
It was unimaginable that something she had struggled so hard to attain was effortlessly obtained by Yun Mu, and on top of that, she didn't even cherish it!
She couldn't just sit idly by!
Yun Mu had returned for revenge, and Yun Shuiyao needed to strike before Yun Mu became even stronger, trampling her once more beneath her feet.
There could only be one Yun Family heiress, and that was her, Yun Shuiyao.
At the hotel entrance, the old physician was sighing in despair, his lifelong reputation now in ruins.
"Professor Zhang," Yun Shuiyao approached him softly, "Do you truly intend to let a young girl humiliate you and then retire from the medical field, forsaking your good name?"
"How could I be content with that?" the old physician lamented. "But what can I do? Old Master Si has already spoken."
Yun Shuiyao stepped forward with a faint smile. "I have a solution, but it might require Professor Zhang's cooperation."
"What solution?"
Yun Shuiyao leaned in and whispered her proposal...
With Professor Zhang gone, Yun Shuiyao turned around and was startled.
Yun Mu leaned against the corridor, her smile alluring yet subtle. "Scared like that? Did you do something you shouldn't have?"
Yun Shuiyao remained composed. "I only comforted Professor Zhang. But when did you learn such skills in saving people? You didn't plan this just to ruin my plans, did you?"
Yun Mu ignored the accusation, her smile enigmatic. "Don't worry, I'll spoil anything that concerns you."
Yun Shuiyao raised an eyebrow. "That depends on whether you have the capability. Don't think you can do as you please just because you've climbed into the Emperor Jade Group's President's bed. Does that sickly fellow from the Huo family know about the green hat you're putting on him?"
Yun Mu chuckled nonchalantly. "If you dare, go tell the Huo family yourself."
Yun Shuiyao clenched her fists.
Huo Jinzhou was still hospitalized, so she dared not speak out of turn.
It wasn't fear of Yun Mu, but the man in question.
They dared to use explosives on Huo Jinzhou? That man is the crown prince of the Huo family!
Seeing Yun Shuiyao's expression of reluctance, Yun Mu felt a surge of satisfaction.
She strolled leisurely up to Yun Shuiyao, took the exquisite diamond pendant from her chest, and caressed it with her fingertips. "I recall that you took this pendant from me as well. Has it been comfortable wearing it all these years?"
At the age of ten, Yun Shuiyao deliberately threw herself into a roadside truck and framed Yun Xiaosha for pushing her. As reparation, Lin Wanqing bestowed upon Yun Shuiyao the pendant that originally belonged to Yun Xiaosha.
That pendant was part of Lin Wanqing's dowry, a cherished heirloom passed down through the Yun family.
Yun Shuiyao's expression darkened as she forcefully pushed away Yun Mu's hand.
"This is a gift from Mother. It's your own fault for not winning her favor."
Yun Mu concealed the peculiar glint in her eyes, calmly retracting her hand to smooth her long hair with an air of nonchalance.
She spoke calmly, "Since you like this pendant so much, then wear it. But every bit you've taken from me in the past, I'll reclaim with interest."
After issuing her warning, Yun Mu turned and left.
Spotting Hao Tingcheng waiting for her at the end of the corridor, Yun Mu approached him and effortlessly looped her arms around his. Satisfied, she cast a subtle glance at Yun Shuiyao's envious expression out of the corner of her eye.
Hao Tingcheng didn't push her away but instead spoke in a deep voice, "What trick did you pull this time?"
"You noticed?"
"..."
Yun Mu's lips curled slightly as she tapped her fingertips, "Just some petty tricks, nothing more than giving her a taste of her own medicine!"
Didn't Yun Shuiyao claim that her face was ruined? Well, then Yun Mu would grant her wish.
The substance on her fingertips earlier, if it touched the special medicine on Yun Shuiyao's face, would cause her skin to start decaying within three hours.
Not only that, it would be unbearably itchy!
Hao Tingcheng glanced at her sidelong, "You truly hold grudges."
"Indeed, so don't provoke me!"
