Chapter 94: A Clown on the Stage

Huo Tingying sat on the sofa, his long legs elegantly crossed, holding a cup of coffee in one hand and a document in the other.
It was Yun Mu's first time seeing him engrossed in work, the imposing aura of a man in power compelling her to steal a few more glances.
Lifting his gaze, Huo Tingying's deep eyes fell upon Yun Mu. "Are you hungry? Shall we go down for something to eat?"
Earlier, their business partner had called; due to weather conditions, their flight was delayed, and the meeting might be an hour or two away.
Yun Mu, pulled out of the lab by Wen Qingqing, had only sipped some coffee and hadn't eaten since then, her stomach truly empty now.
"Sure, I want hot pot."
Descending the stairs, Yun Mu walked beside Huo Tingying.
Under the overcast, snow-laden sky, the street was silent, the atmosphere somehow off.
Huo Tingying seemed to sense something too, pulling Yun Mu along swiftly as they just stepped off the stairs!
A black Hummer charged at them with alarming speed—
Yun Mu's eyes turned cold, ready to react.
Suddenly, everything went dark before her eyes.
Huo Tingying, his expression grim, yanked her over and pushed her into a nearby car.
"Stay here!"
"Don't come out!"
Just as Yun Mu was about to refuse, she saw him leap into the air, catching the dagger thrown at him barehanded.
The dagger gleamed menacingly, and if it had struck true...
She would have met her end there.
From four directions, four intersections, four Hummers sped towards Huo Tingying, attempting to corner him like a trapped beast.
Huo Tingying flashed a devilish smile, leaping into the car.
Yun Mu sat comfortably in the passenger seat, watching the scene unfold with a teasing air. "Looks like you've made quite a few enemies. Need my help?"
Huo Tingying gripped the steering wheel with his left hand and the gearshift with his right. His narrow eyes narrowed further, filled with a chilling determination.
"Just a bunch of clowns. Don't dirty your hands."
Yun Mu raised her eyebrows, adjusting herself into a better position to watch.
Outside, the air was thick with danger.
As the cars closed in simultaneously, Huo Tingying pressed the accelerator, heading straight for the one in front.
Like a stunt driver, just as he was about to collide, he tilted the car on one side, the vehicle tilting sideways while maintaining balance, instantly speeding up to escape the trap.
He narrowly missed the cars, speeding away.
Excitement flashed in Yun Mu's eyes as she exclaimed, "Not bad, impressive!"
In that instant,
the air froze!
Behind them, Hummers like steel war machines pursued, and ahead, a missile as unstoppable as a bamboo cutter approached.
Yun Mu's pupils constricted.
Someone in China actually used this thing?!
At the critical moment, Huo Tingying's eyes turned icy, sharply turning the steering wheel and reversing the car, sparks flying as it scraped against the wall of a building.
Racing through the streets, the car moved like a ghostly shadow, weaving between the Hummers, finally crashing into one and bursting through like a bamboo cutter.
Almost simultaneously, the military-grade tracking missile pierced through the windshield of one of the Hummers.
"Boom—"
It exploded on impact!
The force of the explosion overturned the surrounding Hummers.
Inside the car,
Huo Tingying hit the brakes, turning to look at Yun Mu. "Are you hurt?"
Yun Mu shrugged. "Nope."
Relieved, Huo Tingying said, "Stay in the car."
He then got out, facing the smoke, walking towards the wreckage of the explosion.
A minute later, dressed in black, Huo Tingying emerged from the billowing smoke, dragging an unconscious man with his left hand and pulling a half-dead man, coughing blood, with his right.
His face darkened, he casually threw the two men to the ground, crouching down to interrogate them.
Suddenly, a figure flashed through the black smoke.
At an astonishing speed, like a shadow, beyond the ordinary,
In the next instant, a dagger slashed directly at Huo Tingying's neck.
But at that moment, Yun Mu, who had somehow moved closer, brutally smashed a brick onto the assailant's head!
The brick shattered!
Huo Tingying evaded the attack, but the dagger grazed Yun Mu's arm, blood oozing out.
Yun Mu didn't even blink, as if devoid of pain receptors.
When Huo Tingying saw the glaring blood on the girl's arm...
His pupils abruptly contracted, his breath caught in his throat.
He firmly grasped Yun Mu's wrist, his eyes brewing a storm, his brows darkening like a black fog.
"I'm fine," Yun Mu withdrew her hand, warily surveying the surroundings, "The situation is unclear, we can't be careless."
But Huo Tingying stared intently at her wound, his gaze piercing, "I said, leave the fighting to the men, stand behind me."
The atmosphere around them suddenly turned frigid.
Huo Tingying approached the black-clad man who had injured Yun Mu on the ground, reaching out, he tightly gripped his throat from behind the neck.
Regardless of how the man struggled, Huo Tingying didn't bat an eyelid, lifting the almost equally tall man effortlessly and then slamming him against the Hummer beside them!
"Do you enjoy ambushing people?" Huo Tingying sneered menacingly, "She's someone you can touch? You cut her, now pay with your life!"
As he spoke, he lifted the man, who was in too much pain to even moan, and slammed him waist-first, followed by a kick, the sound of spine shattering echoed.
This man had his spine broken by Huo Tingying.
At this moment, Huo Tingying was like a demon awakened from hell.
He looked down with a contemptuous smirk, his single hand throttling the man's neck.
"Or, tell me who's pulling your strings, I'll give you a quick death!"
But the black-clad man bit his lips tightly, enduring the excruciating pain without uttering a word.
"Very well, let's see how many more bones you have left!"
In an instant, Huo Tingying seized his wrist, applying force, the sound of "snap" came from the left arm, it was dislocated!
The man was drenched in cold sweat from the pain, his lips bleeding from biting them.
Seeing that a life was about to be lost, Yun Mu stepped forward, tugging at Huo Tingying's sleeve.
"It's alright, don't waste your energy. This kind of trained assassin will never betray their master."
Otherwise... his master would hunt him down to the ends of the earth, dead or alive.
"But he hurt you, he deserves to die!" Huo Tingying gritted his teeth in icy anger, his voice cold.
Yun Mu looked amusedly at Huo Tingying, curling her lips, "Mr. Huo, you're so concerned about me... seems like you're hopelessly in love with me."
Huo Tingying's veins bulged on his forehead, "You still have the mood for jokes?"
Yun Mu's fingertips brushed against his cheek, causing him to inhale sharply.
"Look, you've been injured yourself, how did you not notice?"
On the slender, fair fingertips of the girl, traces of blood were visible.
"Mr. Huo, you should also learn to cherish your own body."
Yun Mu placed a band-aid on the wound on his cheek, her husky voice seductive yet laced with chill.
Huo Tingying's voice was deep and somber, "You must promise me, this is the last time I see you get hurt."
Allowing one's woman to be injured under his watch was the greatest disgrace to a man!
