Chapter 522: The Secret of the Twins
by 叶微摇Chapter 522 The Secret of the Twins
Yun Mu walked out of the villa and barked a few orders to the bodyguards outside. Soon, Liu Ling inside heard a series of deafening clangs.
Yun Mu really intended to lock her away in there.
Liu Ling rushed forward but was blocked at the door.
"Yun Mu! You vicious bitch, you'll never make it! You'll never survive!"
How could Yun Mu possibly find the antidote? How?
Bai Wei had sworn to her that Yun Mu wouldn’t live, that no antidote existed in this world, that Yun Mu couldn’t possibly survive!
After taking a few steps, Yun Mu turned back and flashed her a mocking grin. "Where I'm concerned, nothing is impossible. Goodbye!"
That grin became the nightmare Liu Ling would never shake off until her dying day.
Just as Yun Mu pulled open the car door, Liu Ling saw an elegant, long-fingered hand reach out, gently taking Yun Mu’s hand and helping her into the car.
So, Yi Jue had been waiting in the car outside the whole time. He wouldn’t even come in to see her one last time.
But perhaps it was better this way.
Liu Ling touched her crooked nose—her face was now so disfigured that even she found it utterly repulsive.
...
As soon as Yun Mu got into the car, she drank a large bottle of water to soothe her dry throat, then burrowed into Yi Jue’s embrace and complained, "I’ve realized I’ve really suffered being with you. All along the way, I’ve had to fight off countless love rivals, always dangling on the edge of life and death."
Yi Jue affectionately tweaked her cheek. "Then what should I do? Should I disfigure myself?"
"Absolutely not! That would just be my loss—being stuck looking at an ugly man every day!" Yun Mu pouted.
Yi Jue narrowed his eyes at her. "Somehow, you don’t seem angry at all. In fact, you look quite happy! What did you say to Liu Ling that’s got you so pleased?"
Yun Mu tilted her head. "Food first, then I’ll tell you."
Yi Jue pointed to a cake box nearby. "You literally just finished eating before getting out of the car. You weren’t even inside for half an hour, and you’re hungry again?"
"It’s not me who’s hungry—it’s your children!" Yun Mu pointed to her belly. "And there are two of them!"
Given Yun Mu’s recent ravenous appetite, Yi Jue had come prepared. He pulled out an insulated food container from the back seat and opened it. "Tuck in. Zhang Ma made these before we left—all your favorite snacks."
Yun Mu happily took it. "Zhang Ma is the best."
"Only Zhang Ma?"
"Of course, you’re better!" Yun Mu smooched Yi Jue’s cheek before tucking in.
Yi Jue instructed the driver to take it slow. Once Yun Mu was done eating, he asked, "So, are you going to tell me why you’re so happy?"
Yun Mu patted her full stomach with satisfaction, put down the lunchbox, and raised her hands.
Yi Jue naturally produced a handkerchief and wiped them for her.
"Because," Yun Mu said, "chances are there's an antidote to cure me right under my nose. And it might even be something I can make myself—hell, it might already be out there."
Yi Jue froze mid-motion.
"Seriously?"
Yun Mu nodded. "Do you remember my earlier guess that there’s an antidote out there, and that I could develop it?"
Yi Jue nodded. "I remember. That’s exactly why Yi Hou got attacked. Have you figured out the antidote formula?"
Yun Mu reached out and pointed to her stomach.
Yi Jue’s gaze immediately fell on her stomach, puzzled.
Yun Mu continued, "It hit me when Liu Ling was yelling at me. Why would Bai Wei specifically target my child? If there were no antidote for my poison, I wouldn’t even survive long enough for my child to be born. She wouldn’t need to bother! The only explanation is—my child is the antidote!"
That just confused Yi Jue even more.
"What do you mean, the child is the antidote?"
Yun Mu tried to explain, but the words sounded absurd even to her. "It’s just a theory. I’ll need to look into it more. But one thing I’m certain of is that it’s gotta be twins."
"Twins?"
"Yes." Yun Mu nodded, analyzing, "Because it all goes down when Yun family descendants have twins. When the Yun and Yi families had their fallout, the Yun family had a pair of twins. Over twenty years ago, Shangguan Yu had twins snatched from the capital’s Yun family. And now, I’m also carrying twins!"
Yun Mu was in Yun Xiaosha’s body now, who was also a descendant of the Yun family.
Though Yi Jue found all of this totally nuts, he trusted Yun Mu—and all the miracles in the medical world.
With this new lead to break the curse of the poison, Yun Mu felt incredibly relieved, even believing her two children were her good luck charms.
"Yi Jue, once our children are born, let’s go see the world, okay?"
Watching the scenery zip by, Yun Mu suddenly said, "I’ve never really seen this world properly. I want to explore it."
"Alright. As long as you and the children are safe, you can have anything you want."
In the southern continent, even the summer breeze carried a nice chill, brushing against their faces with soothing comfort.
Keen to crack the case, Yun Mu phoned Yunzhe right from the car—she needed to return to the Yun family to uncover the secret of the twins.
However, as soon as they arrived at Maple Leaf Fort, Cheng Li called.
Liu Ling was dead. She had cut her wrists.
Hearing the news, Yun Mu turned to Yi Jue.
His brow twitched slightly before he coldly ordered, "Take her parents to identify the body. Torch the whole place."
Yun Mu felt no sympathy or pity for Liu Ling’s death.
She asked for it.
The Yun family had already sold the antidote for the withering grass to the Yi family. Liu Ling didn’t have to die from blood deterioration—but she was pushing her luck. Who could she blame?
Before setting off for the Yun family, Yun Mu visited Bai Wei’s room.
Bai Wei sat quietly at the desk, reading, as if nothing had happened.
When Yun Mu entered, she merely glanced back calmly, none of yesterday’s madness remaining. She had even changed into a white dress, looking all sweet and innocent.
"Aren’t you going to ask me about your godmother?" Yun Mu asked.
Bai Wei smirked. "With my god-grandfather backing me, you won't find it so easy to kill my godmother."
"Your godmother isn't dead, but Liu Ling is—that is, Bai Lan."
Yun Mu walked over to her desk and slammed her book shut. Bai Wei looked up at her with displeasure.
She chuckled lightly. "Bai Wei, who do you think will die next?"
Bai Wei's gaze turned icy.
"You have one more night to consider this. I hope by dawn, you'll give me a satisfactory answer."
Yun Mu walked out, but before leaving, she instructed Yun Shumo, "Keep a close eye on her. She'll probably break tonight."
