Chapter 279 Finally Decided to Come Back

Yun Mu didn't have much affection for Old Master Yun. She simply said, "I'm a bit tired today. I'll go home first and visit Grandpa another time."
Old Master Yun was somewhat disappointed but still nodded. "Alright, then remember to come see Grandpa next time. I have some things I want to tell you."
Looking into Old Master Yun's cloudy yet sharp eyes, Yun Mu felt a slight shock.
She had a hunch that Old Master Yun had already seen through her—that she wasn't his real granddaughter.
She composed herself and nodded, "Yes, I'll remember."
Then she pulled Ji Ming into the car and left in haste.
Ji Ming was roughly shoved into the car, his expression instantly turning grim as if he had drawn in a sharp breath.
Yun Mu frowned, "What's wrong with you?"
Ji Ming was taken aback, "Nothing... nothing at all..."
Yun Mu's expression changed, and she poked his shoulder forcefully. "Is there really nothing wrong here?"
Ji Ming gritted his teeth, "No, let's just drive."
But Yun Mu saw clearly that when she poked him, his face turned pale.
Yun Mu remained silent, speeding up the car. When they arrived home, she pulled Ji Ming out of the car again.
"What are you bringing me to your place for? If Huo Tingying finds out, he'll go crazy again."
Yun Mu didn't bother with small talk and immediately pulled down his collar.
Ji Ming's expression became agitated, his face flushed. "Hey, what are you doing? Your husband isn't here, and you're undressing me—this isn't right..."
Yun Mu ignored his antics and stared straight at his shoulder.
There was a noticeable bruise on his side, already turning blood-red, shocking to see.
She spoke coldly, "Why didn't you say anything about being hurt? When did you start being so melodramatic?"
"I just didn't want you to worry." Ji Ming put away his nonchalant demeanor and pulled his clothes back up. "It's just a minor injury. You've never seen me with worse injuries before. Why are you worried now?"
Yun Mu went straight to fetch the medical kit from home, taking out cotton swabs and medicine, and skillfully applied it to his wound.
Ji Ming turned awkwardly and took the medicine from her hand. "Forget it, I'll do it myself."
Yun Mu's anger flared, snatching back the cotton swab. "What's wrong with you? Didn't I always treat your wounds in the past?"
Ji Ming lowered his gaze, his long lashes hiding the emotions in his blue eyes. His voice was low, "But that was in the past. Since you won't be around anymore, I should learn to do it myself now."
Yun Mu's heart was struck hard.
Ji Ming glanced at her and fell silent.
He tried to take the medicine, but Yun Mu slapped his hand away.
He winced in pain.
Yun Mu gave him an exasperated look. "Stop pretending. You're the young master of the Ji family. When have you not been surrounded by people? Stay still!"
Yun Mu quickly finished applying the medicine. Ji Ming looked at her and asked, "Can I rest here for a while and go back after you change my bandages tonight?"
Considering he had indeed been injured while saving her, Yun Mu wasn't as heartless.
"You can do as you please. I'm going upstairs to take a shower and change. You can clean up in the bathroom downstairs."
After putting away the medical kit, Yun Mu went upstairs.
...
The sun began to set.
As soon as Huo Tingying got into the car, he started calling Yun Mu. At first, no one answered.
His face darkened. Had she encountered danger again?
He stepped on the gas pedal and kept calling her phone.
Finally, someone picked up, and the voice was familiar, slightly drowsy and casual.
"Hello, who is this?"
Huo Tingying's eyes narrowed, his expression changing abruptly. "Ji Ming, why is it you?"
The drowsy Ji Ming suddenly woke up. He looked at his phone and realized he had accidentally answered Yun Mu's phone, which she had left in the living room.
But his mischievous streak kicked in.
"Oh, isn't this the mysteriously disappeared Mr. Huo? Finally decided to show up and look for Ah Mu?"
Huo Tingying's face grew even darker.
Without a word, he hung up the call and stepped on the gas pedal.
Ten minutes later, he kicked open the car door and strode into the villa.
In the bedroom.
Yun Mu had just comfortably finished her bath and came out of the bathroom, only to see Ji Ming holding her phone at the bedroom door.
She hurried over to snatch back her phone. "What are you doing with my phone?"
He unlocked it and, seeing the recently ended call on the home screen, drew a sharp breath.
"You even answered my call!"
Finally, Huo Tingying had called!
And it was answered by Ji Ming!
She asked, "What did he say? Did you talk nonsense?"
At that moment, the front door downstairs was forcefully pushed open with a loud bang.
Immediately after, brisk footsteps echoed on the marble floor, each step seeming to convey the owner's anger, sending chills down one’s spine.
Ji Ming glanced up the stairs and gave an evil smile. "There, you can ask him yourself."
Yun Mu looked over and saw Huo Tingying already ascending the stairs, brimming with fury.
Ji Ming curved his lips. "President Huo came back pretty quickly. Ah Mu just finished her shower..."
Yun Mu snapped, "Shut the hell up!"
Huo Tingying's icy gaze swept over Yun Mu, who was wearing a seductive nightgown with damp hair and flushed cheeks, making his eyes darken even more.
Didn't she say there was a car accident?
But why was Ji Ming in his bedroom, and why had Yun Mu just taken a shower?
Seeing his grim expression, Yun Mu hurriedly stepped between them to prevent another fight. "He got injured, so I brought him back to treat his wounds. We just got home, and I took a shower. Alright, you’ve rested enough; go back to your own place!"
Only then did Huo Tingying notice the bandages wrapped around Ji Ming's shoulder, but his expression didn’t improve; instead, it grew even darker.
"I told you to take Yun Mu on a vacation, and you almost got into a car accident?"
Ji Ming became furious.
"Huo Tingying, what's your problem? You think I'm not good enough to protect her? She’s your wife, not my responsibility!"
Huo Tingying sneered, "You know she’s my wife. It’s neither your duty nor your right to stay by her side. If you really want to stay, you can be her bodyguard."
"Go to hell, Huo Tingying—"
Seeing the two about to fight again, Yun Mu panicked and intervened. "Enough! I don’t need anyone to protect me! You, go home and rest now."
She pointed at Ji Ming.
Ji Ming's blue eyes brimmed with grievance, his chest heaving in anger, clearly not willing to accept it.
But unable to resist Yun Mu’s authority, he reluctantly stood down and turned away angrily.
"By the way, check the people around you," Huo Tingying warned coldly.
Ji Ming’s steps paused slightly. "I know. No need for your advice!"
The car was prepared by his people, yet the brakes failed, indicating someone tampered with it.
Someone wanted their lives!
