Karen was also startled and instinctively moved to help Yun Mu.
But the next moment, Yun Shumo, who had rushed over, shoved her away. "Get away! Don’t touch her!"
In that instant, Yun Shumo's bloodshot eyes terrified Karen, who reeled back two steps, her entire body turning cold.
Yun Shumo hurried to support Yun Mu on the sofa. "Yun Mu, Yun Mu, what’s wrong? Yi Jue!"
At the sound, Yi Jue rushed down from his study upstairs. The moment he saw Yun Mu curled up on the sofa, his eyes narrowed sharply. "Yun Mu, I’m here. Yun Mu, can you hear me?"
Clutching her stomach with one hand and gripping Yi Jue's arm with the other, Yun Mu gave a weak nod. "The baby… Yi Jue, our baby…"
Yi Jue's heart clenched. "The baby will be fine, and so will you!"
With that, he snapped at Yun Shumo, "Drive!"
At the same time, he took out his phone to call Yunzhe. In this world, the only doctor he trusted to save Yun Mu was Yunzhe.
They hurriedly helped Yun Mu into the car. Karen chased after them for a few steps, wanting to follow, but Yun Shumo's icy glare stopped her at the car door. "You don’t need to come."
Karen clenched her fists and nodded.
Watching the luxury car speed away, Karen blinked back tears before finally taking out her phone to send a text message.
Twenty minutes later, on the top floor of Nan City First Hospital.
Yunzhe stepped out of the ward and removed his mask. Yi Jue immediately approached. "How is Yun Mu?"
Yunzhe looked grim. "Yun Mu is out of immediate danger, but the baby isn’t doing well."
Yi Jue’s expression darkened.
"Yun Shumo, go in and stay with Yun Mu first. Yi Jue, come with me. I need to talk to you."
Yun Shumo patted Yi Jue's shoulder and entered the ward.
Through the glass window, Yi Jue took one look at Yun Mu inside, and his chest tightened painfully.
The balcony was eerily quiet.
Yi Jue lit a cigarette and took a long drag to suppress his emotions. "Tell me, how are Yun Mu and the baby?"
"We weren’t sure before, so Yun Mu probably didn’t tell you yet—she’s carrying twins," Yunzhe said.
Yi Jue's fingers holding the cigarette trembled slightly.
Being pregnant with twins in her condition—what it meant for Yun Mu and the babies, even without being a doctor, Yi Jue understood.
Her body was already struggling with one child, let alone two.
"How long can we hold off the toxins?" Yi Jue braced against the railing, his face in shadow. "Is there any way to delay the poisoning?"
Yunzhe's brows furrowed sharply, his tone cold and unyielding, shattering Yi Jue’s last hope. "The only way is to terminate the pregnancy while it’s early."
"No!"
Before Yi Jue could respond, the balcony door was suddenly pushed open from inside. A pale, trembling Yun Mu faced them, her eyes blazing with determination.
She repeated firmly, "I refuse to terminate my pregnancy!"
Yunzhe glanced at Yun Shumo behind her, who shrugged helplessly, "There was no stopping her..."
Yi Jue, worried she might catch a chill, pulled her into his embrace and soothed, "Yun Mu, things are different now..."
"One or two, they’re *both* our children!"
Yi Jue replied, "*You* have to come first..."
"You promised me you wouldn’t give up on our child!" Yun Mu glared at Yi Jue, consumed by helplessness she had never felt before. She had once believed herself invincible, yet now she couldn’t save her own life—or the lives of her two children.
Yi Jue held her tightly, his heart *splintering* with pain. "I know, I know... but I can't just watch you die."
He understood all too well that both he and Yun Mu were sinking deeper into despair.
They had access to top-tier medical resources—yet the antidote remained out of reach. Even if it existed, Yun Mu was running out of time.
Yi Jue held her, grief etched into his face.
He’d trade his life in a heartbeat for the safety of Yun Mu and their children.
Yunzhe had no patience for their hesitation and snapped, "If you don’t want Yun Mu to die, you need to make a decision now! Convince her to terminate! I’ve developed a drug that can temporarily suppress the poison in her body, but once it’s injected, her babies will..."
*It’ll kill them.*
Yun Mu turned sharply to glare at Yunzhe. "*Don’t you dare!*"
Yunzhe fell silent, done arguing.
He couldn’t stop her from marching to her death!
Now, all hope rested on Yi Jue—whether he could persuade Yun Mu to change her mind.
"Yi Jue, are you really going to indulge her recklessness at a time like this? Today’s bleeding *proves* her body can’t handle this anymore..."
"I know my body," Yun Mu said calmly, analyzing the situation. "The abdominal pain today shouldn’t be related to the poisoning—it wouldn’t flare up *now*. The toxin spreads and acts slowly; it wouldn’t trigger such an abrupt reaction."
Yunzhe nodded in agreement. "Have you eaten or touched anything unusual recently?"
Yun Mu shook her head. "Zhang Ma takes every precaution—everything from food to clothing is meticulously handled. There shouldn’t be any issues."
Yun Shumo suddenly clapped his hands. "It must be Kailun! You were talking to her right before the pain started—she tampered with something!"
Yi Jue’s gaze *turned to ice*. If it really was Kailun...
Yun Mu frowned. She didn’t want to suspect Kailun, but with no other suspects left, she was the only one possible.
Yi Jue was already convinced. "I won’t let her get away with this."
But Yun Mu narrowed her eyes slightly. "Let’s not act rashly yet. We need to catch her red-handed."
"We don’t need proof!" Yun Shumo insisted.
Yun Mu cut him a look, then turned to Yi Jue.
Yi Jue frowned. "What’s wrong?"
Yun Mu said, "*This isn’t right.* Both you and Yun Shumo are acting strange."
"What's wrong?" Yi Jue asked.
"Yun Shumo just mentioned Karen, and you immediately concluded it was him without even suggesting an investigation. And Yun Shumo, weren’t you quite interested in Karen? You must have some proof to be so sure it’s Karen."
Yun Mu's words made Yun Shumo bristle instantly.
"When was I ever interested in that golden boy? I'm just stating the facts—is it wrong for me to care about your safety? How ungrateful!"
Yun Mu turned her gaze back to Yi Jue, narrowing her eyes. "Spit it out. What secrets are you hiding from me?"
Yunzhe pinched the bridge of his nose. "Is now really the time for this? We should be worrying about your health—"
But Yun Mu ignored him completely, yanking Yi Jue’s hand and dragging him toward the hospital room.
Yunzhe was at his wit’s end...
