Chapter 26: Yun Shuiyao’s Disfiguration
byChapter 26: Yun Shuiyao's Disfiguration
A servant led the way through countless opulent corridors.
Eventually, Yun Mu halted at the end of one such hallway.
The grand entrance to the banquet hall stood firmly shut, guarded by several Yun family bodyguards.
With a gentle creak, the magnificent doors swung open.
Before Yun Mu's eyes lay a resplendent domed ballroom, adorned with gold and splendor.
Beneath a starry Baroque chandelier, an array of aromatic fine wines and sumptuous delicacies graced the tables.
The hall was brimming with guests, their glasses clinking in merriment.
Almost every notable figure in the capital had gathered here, reveling in camaraderie amidst continuous laughter.
Lin Wanqing, in an effort to mend the relationship between the two sisters and dispel rumors of discord within the Yun family, had spared no effort in organizing this event.
Yun Mu curved her lips, striding in with an aura of confidence and grace.
She wore a dazzling rose-red gown that accentuated the maiden's allure and charm. The cinched waist highlighted her slender figure, while the skirt fanned out, swaying gently with each step.
The previously lively banquet hall fell silent instantly.
All eyes were captivated by the entrancing maiden as she entered.
Her red dress shimmered, and her figure swayed enchantingly.
A gossamer veil hid her face, yet her eyes shimmered with clarity and ethereal grace.
Yun Shuiyao's fingers trembled subtly.
Though she was well aware of the hideous scar concealed beneath the veil and that today's events unfolded according to her plan, the sight of Yun Mu captivating everyone with her radiant presence still drove her with envy.
Yun Mu's demeanor was so exquisitely enchanting that, even without seeing her face, she remained the center of attention.
These captivated gazes should have been directed at her, Yun Shuiyao.
The moment Yun Mu appeared, Lin Wanqing approached joyfully. "Mumu, you're here!"
Lin Wanqing affectionately held Yun Mu's hand. "This birthday party is personally arranged by your sister. Do you like it?"
Yun Mu coldly scanned the banquet hall before giving a light smile. "I like it."
With the main event about to unfold, how could she not like it?
Lin Wanqing took Yun Shuiyao's hand and brought her back in front of Yun Mu. "Regarding the previous incident, Yaoer already knows she was wrong. Consider this birthday party as her apology."
Yun Shuiyao, dressed in a soft yellow strapless gown, stood elegantly with a refreshing charm that epitomized the beauty of April.
A birthday party was all it would take for her to swallow her pride?
In her dreams!
Yun Mu wore a mocking expression but remained silent.
Lin Wanqing then took both their hands, attempting to have them shake hands.
Yun Mu caught a glimpse of the camera in the crowd from the corner of her eye, and a knowing smile tugged at the corners of her lips before she forcefully withdrew her hand.
"I suppose an apology should come with sincerity. Today is my birthday, and I have no desire to be disgusted or have my mood spoiled."
With that, she haughtily brushed past Yun Shuiyao, lifting the hem of her dress as she went.
The onlookers, who had been eagerly anticipating a reconciliation between the sisters, were left dumbfounded.
They immediately started murmuring amongst themselves.
"What's wrong with Yun Mu? Even though Yun Shuiyao made the initial mistake, she did apologize publicly. Aren't they sisters? What can't be forgiven?"
"Exactly! Even if she doesn't forgive her, there was no need to embarrass her in public like that! How rude!"
As expected of someone who was once foolish, even if she has recovered, she still has character flaws...
Yun Shuiyao's face was pale, and tears shimmered in her beautiful eyes.
"Wanqing..." Lin Wanqing looked at her daughter with a mix of embarrassment and heartache.
Yun Shuiyao suppressed her laughter, replying obediently, "It's okay, Mommy. I'll keep trying to earn my sister's forgiveness."
As she spoke, tears streamed down her face, evoking sympathy from onlookers.
This made everyone look at Yun Mu with even more hostility.
Lin Wanqing, not wanting the situation to escalate, attempted to reason with Yun Mu but was interrupted by her duty to attend to other guests.
Just as Lin Wanqing left, someone in the crowd spoke up in defense of Yun Shuiyao.
"How dare an ugly reject of the Yun family give Yao'er the cold shoulder? She truly is vulgar!"
Several figures approached, exuding elegance. Yun Mu turned slightly, and the leading woman stepped forward to block her path.
"You think hiding behind a veil will make everyone forget how hideous you are?"
Before arriving, Yun Mu had done her research.
The leader was Gong Xiyue, the daughter of the Gong family and Yun Shuiyao's best friend.
Yun Mu cast her a glance and moved past her.
"Misbehaving already? Didn't you hear me talking to you?" Gong Xiyue's expression soured as she blocked Yun Mu's path once more.
"Did you speak? I thought I just heard a mad dog barking," Yun Mu said mockingly, swaying the wine glass in her hand.
Gong Xiyue's pretty face flushed with anger. "You called me a mad dog? Hah, you truly are impolite and uncultured!"
"Politeness is reserved for those worth it. Scram!"
Yun Mu had no intention of engaging in a spat with her. Her gaze swept across the venue, searching for someone.
At that moment, Lin Wanqing was attending to guests. Since the main building should be empty, it was the perfect time to visit Elder Yun. Thus, she tried to leave.
But as they brushed past each other, Gong Xiyue suddenly lunged forward, causing Yun Mu's wine to spill uncontrollably.
A furious shriek pierced Yun Mu's ears. "You dared to splash wine on me?"
In the next instant, a slap came swinging at her without warning.
"Smack!"
A sharp and resounding slap!
Yun Mu's attention had been elsewhere just now, and this slap caught her off guard.
Her beautiful eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing in them.
"What are you looking at? This slap is for you!" Gong Xiyue was arrogant and menacing. "I know you don't dare to retaliate. People like you shouldn't have come back, sparing Yao'er from being harmed by you... Ah!"
Before Gong Xiyue could finish her sentence, Yun Mu's slap swung over without any hesitation.
"Courting death!"
Two consecutive slaps— "Smack, smack" —one to the left, one to the right.
Gong Xiyue was sent crashing to the ground!
A towering champagne pyramid, reaching human height, toppled to the ground, shards of glass flying everywhere as the liquid splashed in all directions...
Seeing this, Yun Shuiyao rushed forward to intervene, the scene descending into chaos.
"Sister, stop it now! If this keeps up, someone might get killed..."
Yun Shuiyao cried out, darting in to separate the two.
In the crowd, someone, unknown to all, shouted, "Oh heavens, Yun Mu is going to kill someone! Someone help—!"
The entire ballroom echoed with voices, filled with panic and commotion.
Gong Xiyue, clearly unused to such humiliation, immediately abandoned all decorum and engaged in a fierce scuffle.
Yun Mu was agile, but she found herself suddenly surrounded by numerous individuals who had materialized from the crowd, holding her back under the pretense of mediating, but in reality, restricting her movements.
And then, someone, unseen by all, picked up a shard of broken glass from the floor...
A cold, sharp glint caught the light.
A shrill cry of agony suddenly ripped through the crowd!
"Ahh—my face! My face!"
Everyone froze, turning abruptly to look.
Yun Shuiyao, covered in dirt and disarray, was prostrate on the ground, one hand clutching half her face, her entire body trembling violently.
Beneath her fingers, blood seeped out, dripping drop by drop onto the polished floor, a glaring sight.
Lin Wanqing, accompanied by others, hurried over, rushing anxiously towards Yun Shuiyao.
"Yao'er..."
"Mommy, my face..."
Yun Shuiyao's eyes filled with terror as she slowly lowered her hand from her cheek.
A deep, long gash was revealed, a horrifying sight.
The entire audience fell silent, drawing sharp breaths in awe.
