Yun Mu gasped for breath, out of breath, as she struggled out of Yi Jue's embrace, the exertion causing a dizzy spell.
She stumbled two steps.
Yi Jue's face still bore a lingering darkness, the menace not yet faded, but concern flickered in his eyes as she moved. "What's wrong? Feeling unwell?"
"None of your business!" Yun Mu glared at Yi Jue, her neck stiff with defiance as she shouted, "Let me go, and I'll be fine."
"Not a chance!"
He stood not far from her, pulling out his phone and dialing Cheng Li's number, instructing him to bring a doctor over. At the same time, he ordered Cheng Li to increase the guard around Ruoshui Garden.
Yun Mu finally realized he wasn't joking or just making threats; he was taking action. "You brought me here to lock me up?"
"Lock me up?" Yi Jue's gaze lowered slightly. "If that’s how you want to see it, so be it."
"Are you out of your mind?" Yun Mu tried to rush out of the room but was easily pushed back onto the bed by him.
"My people are watching outside; you won’t get out."
Yun Mu took a deep breath. "What right do you have to keep me here? What kind of relationship do we have?"
Yi Jue didn't answer.
Yun Mu continued, "You want the antidote, right? Well, let me tell you, as long as you lock me up, you’ll never get it! Just watch your beloved fiancée and the Yi family members die one by one!"
"Don't try to provoke me." Yi Jue stepped closer. "I don't want to use you to get anything."
"Then why are you keeping me here?"
"To treat your illness! Go look in the mirror and see how your face looks like a ghost now. What’s the point of you running around when you’re sick!"
Yun Mu laughed sarcastically. "Yi Jue, are you worried about me? Do you have multiple personalities? Should I remind you of the humiliation you threw at me in public just a few days ago? Bringing a promiscuous and dirty woman like me back to your place—aren't you afraid I'll dirty your home?"
Words once spoken can't be taken back, and Yi Jue knew that.
Looking down at Yun Mu's eyes with a deep gaze, he said indifferently, "Rest here for now. I won't do anything to you; I'm protecting you."
The people who kidnapped Yun Mu today were likely Yi Hou, and Yi Jue couldn't afford to let her out of his sight.
Yun Mu sneered coldly at him. "I don’t need your phony protection. Let me go, and I won’t hold the Yi family responsible for this."
At the end of the day, it was because the Yun family had been poisoning the Yi family for a hundred years.
It was understandable that the Yi family would kidnap her for the antidote.
What truly angered her was Yi Jue's hot-and-cold attitude toward her, his emotional distance.
When he wanted to humiliate her, he'd spew hurtful words without a second thought, but whenever she was in danger, he'd always come to her rescue without hesitation.
Why?
If he had already decided to marry Liu Ling, why bother coming after her?
Yun Mu closed her eyes and said hoarsely, "Let me go, don't make things ugly."
As she staggered to leave, Yi Jue stood still, pulling her into his arms, his hands braced on either side of Yun Mu, trapping her between the wall and his chest.
Yun Mu struggled desperately, but it was futile.
"Being so disobedient, it looks like you really want me to deal with you!"
He forcefully grabbed Yun Mu's hands and held them above her head. Yun Mu resisted, struggling against him. "Get out!"
Yi Jue let her struggle, kick, and bite.
Even though it didn’t hurt, he felt a sharp pain in his heart.
He was fully aware that he had fallen for this girl and had never meant to hurt her. He had even decisively cut ties with Liu Ling, worried that she might be slandered because of him.
But each time, his words contradicted his feelings. He couldn’t control his emotions, and time after time, he hurt her.
Gradually, Yun Mu's struggles weakened, leaving her only enough strength to lean against the wall, panting for breath. Yi Jue's deep and resonant voice came from above her. "Yun Mu, rest assured. This time, I really just want to protect you."
Yun Mu clenched her teeth, unable to understand what Yi Jue meant.
"The Yun family isn’t short of bodyguards, and Yunzhe can protect me," Yun Mu said flatly and coldly, "And the one who truly hurt me is none other than you, right?"
Apart from him, Yun Mu had never shed tears or felt so humiliated for anyone else in her life.
Yi Jue stiffened, still holding her.
Just then, Zhang Ma knocked on the door.
"Mr. Yi, the doctor is here."
"Come in."
Yi Jue gave Yun Mu a warning look. Seeing that she had finally stopped resisting, he let the doctor treat her, feeling relieved. He leaned against the railing, took out a cigarette, and lit it.
Yun Mu stared at him. With Zhang Ma and the doctor present, she couldn’t lose her temper again.
A bloody bite mark was clearly visible on Yi Jue's rolled-up sleeve. Zhang Ma gasped in surprise, "Oh dear, Mr. Yi, your arm, this… this was bitten by someone?"
Yi Jue's narrow, dark eyes gazed at Yun Mu with a faint smile through the smoke.
Zhang Ma immediately understood. "Let the doctor apply some medicine, or it might leave a scar."
The bitter taste of tobacco spread in his mouth as Yi Jue stared intently into Yun Mu's eyes, "Then let it scar. Consider it the punishment for my past foolish actions that hurt someone."
Hearing this, Yun Mu's mind exploded.
This arrogant man, was he apologizing for his previous words?
"A scar is supposed to make up for past mistakes? How ridiculous!"
Yi Jue took a deep drag on his cigarette, "Since you think it's not enough, shouldn’t you give me time and a chance to make up for it?"
Yun Mu sneered, "Some hurts are beyond repair."
Yi Jue was resolute, "If you don’t try, how will you know?"
Yun Mu took a breath and steadied herself, "Because that person no longer cares."
Yi Jue's thin lips pressed into a straight line, his fingertips holding the cigarette trembled slightly, and the smoke wavered, "Why don’t you care anymore?"
"Yijue, would you care about a mad dog that bit you?"
Upon hearing this, Yijue furrowed his brows. "Are you calling me a dog?"
Yun Mu replied coldly, "That’s what you said."
Zhang Ma, the nurse, and the doctor exchanged glances, then quietly exited the room.
Knowing that Yijue was unlikely to let her go easily, Yun Mu decided that since she was unhappy, she wouldn’t let him off easy either. "Yijue, what do you think your fiancée will think knowing you're keeping a woman imprisoned at home? And she’s rumored to be in poor health. Aren’t you afraid she’ll die of anger and you’ll regret it?"
His expression instantly darkened, and he stared directly at Yun Mu. "My relationship with her is none of your concern. Stay put!"
With that, he stepped out of the room and spoke to Zhang Ma, the nurse outside. "I have to go out for a while. Ensure she takes her medication and prepare some food for her. Ensure all the downstairs windows and exits are securely guarded."
"Sure thing," Zhang Ma replied immediately.
"Yijue, you can’t keep me locked up!" Yun Mu shouted from inside. He ignored her and walked away.
