Chapter 31: Fruitless Probing
byChapter 31: Fruitless Probing
A fierce glint flashed in Yun Mu's eyes. With a swift horizontal slash of her palm, she was precise and relentless!
Targeting the elderly woman's vital spot.
The old lady closed her eyes in despair—
"Hold on!"
Finally, footsteps echoed from outside the door.
Yun Mu halted her action and looked over.
She saw Huo Jinzhou enter, surrounded by several bodyguards, dressed in a sharp suit, exuding elegance and refinement.
Obviously, his previous injuries had mostly healed. He had chosen to remain hospitalized only to temporarily escape the rumors swirling outside.
Huo Jinzhou's cold gaze swept across Yun Mu. She wore a simple black outfit with black pants, paired with combat boots, and a black veil concealed her face. Her long hair, like a waterfall, was braided into a fishtail that hung down her chest.
With an aura of untamed grace, there's an aloof allure and a subtle dominance in her presence, captivating all around.
This Yun Mu is vastly different from the foolish image I had in mind.
A faint glint of icy sharpness flickered in Huo Jinzhou's eyes; he curled his lips in a mocking smile.
Miss Yun truly is heartless and ruthless, resorting to lethal force against an elderly person, one who once cared for your upbringing no less.
Yun Mu laughed coldly, "Huo Jinzhou, do you really think I'm still that fool from back then? You actually try to deceive me with a stranger!"
She roughly tossed the elderly woman to the ground, her cries of pain echoing continuously.
The bodyguards standing behind Huo Jinzhou moved forward in unison.
Huo Jinzhou extended his hand to stop them.
"Stranger? Look carefully, Aunt Zhang has been a long-serving maid in the Yun family for over a decade. Don't you recognize her?" Huo Jinzhou asked with an icy undertone.
His inquiry was blatantly probing and ambiguous.
It seemed that Huo Jinzhou suspected her identity and intentionally arranged for someone to test her.
If Yun Mu was truly an impostor, she might indeed hesitate.
Unfortunately, Yun Mu possessed most of Yun Xiaosha's memories. This elderly woman was familiar with Yun Xiaosha's past and even resembled Aunt Zhang in appearance.
But she could never be Aunt Zhang.
Yun Mu scoffed. "There was indeed an old servant who took care of me since I was young in the Yun family, and she was also called Aunt Zhang. But it's not this person."
With those words, she abruptly stepped forward, fiercely grabbing the collar of Ho Jinzhou's shirt, demanding, "Where's Aunt Zhang? Hand her over!"
The anger in the young girl's eyes made her resemble a magnificent rose with thorns.
Ho Jinzhou furrowed his brows, a hint of uncertainty flickering across his gaze.
Could it be that this woman was truly Yun Mu?
He forcefully pulled away Yun Mu's hand, his expression dark and menacing.
"Yun Mu, are you the one demanding someone from me now? Are you teaching me how to beg?"
Yun Mu gazed at him for a few seconds before sneering. "Seems like you have no clue about Aunt Zhang's whereabouts. I'm not playing this game anymore!"
She turned to leave.
But Ho Jinzhou reached out and pulled her back. His thin lips formed a chilling curve. "Aunt Zhang is indeed in my hands. But if I were to hand over such a crucial witness to you, you'd have to give me something in return."
Yun Mu withdrew her hand. "What do you want?"
Ho Jinzhou's icy gaze swept across Yun Mu's veil before settling on her piercing eyes. He grinned. "How about you spend a night with me? Anyway, that sickly Huo Tingcheng can't satisfy you. Rather than seeking other men, why don't you let me have some fun?"
"I'll give you Aunt Zhang after just one night. How does that sound?"
Yun Mu narrowed her beautiful eyes and suddenly raised her hand.
"Slap—"
A resounding slap echoed as it fiercely struck Ho Jinzhou's face.
Yun Mu scoffed disdainfully, "I'd rather seek out a beggar than someone like you, a despicable scumbag! Disgusting!"
With that, she turned around and left with an elegant flair.
The bodyguards standing by were stunned.
This woman was so fierce!
Huo Jinzhou clenched his fists, his expression icy cold.
Yun Mu, you're courting death.
...
Yun Mu left the hospital and entered the coffee shop directly across the street.
She found a seat where she could overlook the incoming and outgoing vehicles at the hospital and sat there for the entire afternoon.
It wasn't until evening when Huo Jinzhou's assistant, Gao Shan, accompanied an elderly man dressed simply into a black Hummer, and they both left the hospital.
Yun Mu promptly got into her car and followed suit.
In truth, she had already formulated a plan when she went to the meeting. It was unlikely that Huo Jinzhou would so easily hand over the person to her, so she had made two contingency plans beforehand.
She hadn't expected, however, that Huo Jinzhou would already be suspecting her identity and would set up a fake Aunt Zhang to test her.
Fortunately, she hadn't given away any clues.
Yun Mu tailed the black Hummer out of the city in an ordinary sedan she had prepared earlier, maintaining a discreet distance, thus avoiding detection throughout the chase.
Back then, during the fire, Yun Xiaosha had passed out and was oblivious to what had transpired.
If Aunt Zhang was indeed the sole person who knew the truth, then Yun Mu had to find her!
As the black sedan exited the highway, Yun Mu prepared to accelerate and catch up when her phone suddenly rang.
Glancing at the caller ID, she was surprised to see that it was actually Huo Tingcheng calling at this moment.
With a slight frown, Yun Mu didn't answer the call. She disliked interruptions when she was working.
Yet, the phone kept ringing persistently.
Before long, a text message arrived.
"Answer the phone."
The message was concise and authoritative, typical of Hao Tingcheng's style.
A corner of Yun Mu's lips curved up involuntarily.
Just as Yun Mu was about to return the call, the black Hummer in front of her came to a halt.
She promptly hit the brakes and turned off her phone.
Their vehicles were too close, and another ringtone would surely give her away.
At that moment, Hao Tingcheng had compressed a two-day business trip into one and rushed back to the capital on an overnight flight. He had just stepped off the plane.
Lu Nansen accompanied him on the same flight and they both got into the car together.
Throughout the journey, Holting Cheng fixated on the message he had sent on his phone, awaiting a response that didn't come promptly.
His sword-like eyebrows furrowed slightly as he dialed another number.
It's actually turned off.
Lu Nansen, seated in the copilot's position, shot a teasing glance back. "I told you, why were you so insistent on rushing back this time? Married men are just different, aren't they?"
Huo Tingcheng lifted his gaze, casting a cold glance at him.
"Am I not right? Ever since you landed, you've been on the phone nonstop, constantly glued to the screen. In my opinion, either you're checking up on someone or catching a cheat."
Huo Tingcheng kicked at Lu Nansen's seat with a cold tone, "If you can't speak properly, then don't say anything at all!"
Lu Nansen curled his lips, choosing to remain silent.
Yet, Hao Tingcheng couldn't resist making another call, this time to the old Hao family residence.
"Is the young madam at home?"
The butler replied respectfully, "Young Madam left for lunch and hasn't returned yet. Is something the matter, Young Master?"
"Hmm," said Huo Tingcheng, hanging up the phone and pursing his lips.
Then, he called Feng Shuo again. "Find out where the young madam is right now."
"As you wish, Young Master," Feng Shuo immediately obeyed.
Lu Nansen couldn't help but chuckle. "You're not catching her in the act, are you? Tingcheng, I never thought I'd see the day when you'd take an interest in a woman's whereabouts. How rare!"
Huo Tingcheng gave Lu Nansen a fleeting glance, his heart sinking.
Where on earth had that woman gone?
