    Chapter 374: Marriage Proposal Rejected

Yun Mu's temper sparked. "What are you yelling for? Just because you said you want to marry me, should I feel grateful? Yi Jue, are you used to being pampered and fawned over by Liu Ling, so you think all women should revolve around you?"

Hearing her mention Liu Ling, Yi Jue's anger surged even more.

"You're a woman who has been married and divorced. I'm taking the initiative to propose to you. You should at least be thrilled, if not grateful!"

    But what did she do?

She even brought up her ex-husband, using the chance to tell me how much she loves him!

Upon hearing these words, Yun Mu jumped up and poured the tea beside her right into his face.

"Are you sober now?" she glared at him coldly. "That's my answer to your proposal, Mr. Yi."

Then she threw the cup down and stormed out.

Just then, the waiter pushed the dishes in and was shocked by the sight.

When they came in, everything was fine, so how did it escalate so quickly?

"Sir, should I still serve the dishes?" the waiter asked uncertainly.

Yi Jue took a deep breath and clenched his teeth. "Serve them! And bring me a bottle of wine!"

An hour later, Cheng Li arrived at the hotpot restaurant's private room after receiving a call.

"Mr. Yi, the bill has been settled. Would you like to head back to Ruoshui Garden now?"

Yi Jue threw the car keys to Cheng Li but didn't rush to get up. Instead, he looked at Cheng Li with a gloomy expression. "Cheng Li, have you ever proposed?"

Cheng Li was taken aback by the question but answered honestly, "No, I'm only 24. I haven't even had a girlfriend yet..."

Yi Jue sneered in disdain. "I shouldn't have asked you!"

Then, just as Cheng Li thought he was finally going to get up and leave, Yi Jue looked up with a drunken gaze and asked, "In your opinion, if I were to propose, especially to a divorced woman, would she have any reason to refuse?"

This was a question Cheng Li could handle. "Of course not! Whether she’s divorced or a noble lady from any great family of the Southern Ming Continent, if you, Mr. Yi, were to propose, they’d be over the moon to say yes!"

Yi Jue stared at Cheng Li, his handsome face unreadable. "Miss Yun rejected me."

Cheng Li almost choked on his tongue. "Mr. Yi, that's not what I meant! Miss Yun is certainly not a fool. If she rejected you, it might be because..."

    (She simply doesn’t love you.)

Fortunately, Yi Jue had drunk quite a bit and didn't catch the hidden meaning.

"That woman is a fool! She even told me she was married and still loves her ex-husband! This woman is not only a fool but also blind! Is her ex-husband more outstanding, more handsome, or richer than me? To turn down my proposal for an ex-husband! Utter foolishness!" Yi Jue roared angrily.

Cheng Li struggled to keep up with the shocking news.

"Mr. Yi, are you saying Miss Yun has been married and divorced?"

This was a bombshell that hadn’t shaken the Southern Ming Continent in years!

Yi Jue slammed the wine glass onto the table, his broad chest heaving, radiating anger. He had only one thought. "Find out who that woman’s ex-husband is! No matter who it is, take care of him first!"

Cheng Li was shocked. "Mr. Yi, this isn't good. After all, that's not just any ex-husband..."

It's the ex-husband of the Yun family’s patriarch!

If we really did kill him, wouldn’t Yun Mu come after me?

Yi Jue’s eyes turned cold. "Go and do it! Do you want me to kill you for all your talk?"

Cheng Li whined, "Yes, I’ll go right away."

"Come back, where do you think you're going?" Just as Cheng Li turned around, he heard Yi Jue's shout from behind him, "Drive me back to Ruoshui Garden first."

Cheng Li sighed heavily, looking up at the sky. Being Mr. Yi’s chief assistant was really not an easy job.

    ……

    The Yun Family’s Small Residence.

Yun Mu returned home slowly after eating dinner out. Yunzhe had been waiting at the entrance of the small residence and didn’t say much when he saw her.

However, Yun Mu noticed that the number of guards around her residence had at least doubled.

"You’ve been waiting here at the small residence all this time?"

Yunzhe’s face was cold. "What else would I do? Run around looking for you like that fool Ji Ming?"

He scoffed, looking at her. "Don’t worry, even if it’s those fools under Yi Hou, or Yi Jue himself, if you don’t want to be taken away, they won’t take you. Unless you go with him willingly!"

Indeed, nothing could be hidden from Yunzhe.

"It seems the one who understands you best is your enemy." Yun Mu let out a forced laugh. "But this time, I was really taken away by force initially. I had a fever and couldn’t fight back..."

Yunzhe’s expression eased slightly, and a hint of concern flickered in his eyes.

"How are you now? Still feeling unwell?"

Yun Mu shook her head. "I’m all right now."

The memory of their previous disagreement was still fresh in their minds. After a few moments, he looked at Yun Mu to ensure she was truly okay, then turned and left.

Just then, Yun Mu called out. "Yunzhe, starting tomorrow, I’ll work with you on the antidote for the withering grass."

A glint of joy appeared in Yunzhe’s eyes. "Are you planning to take charge of the Yun family again?"

"No," Yun Mu replied, "I just want to develop a cure for the blood mutation and end the century-long feud between the Yun and Yi families."

Yunzhe clenched his fists, his voice cold as frost. "You’re not doing this for the Yun and Yi families; you’re doing it for Yi Jue."

Without looking back, Yunzhe walked away.

Yun Mu sighed in resignation. It seemed it would take some time for Yunzhe to accept that she just wanted to live a carefree life.

The next morning, Yun Mu slept in and then had breakfast. Just as she was about to take a nap, a servant interrupted her. "Head of the family, there’s a phone call for you."

Yun Mu then remembered that Yi Jue had thrown away her phone, and she hadn’t had time to get a new one.

She responded and walked over to the landline, picking up the receiver. "Hello, who’s this?"

A man’s voice came through the line. "Miss Yun, this is Cheng Li speaking."

Then seeing that Yun Mu didn't respond, he added, "You might not remember me. I am Assistant to Mr. Yi."

"I remember you, what do you need?"

"Well, Mr. Yi needs to meet you in person," Cheng Li said.

Yun Mu sneered, "Why doesn’t he call me himself if he wants to meet me? Is he unable to speak?"

"It's not that, Miss Yun. Mr. Yi can't call you at the moment because he's at the hospital for a medical check-up."

"A check-up? What’s the matter with him?" Yun Mu finally sat up straight, her voice tinged with a tension she hadn’t noticed.

Why is he at the hospital? Could it be a recurrence of his old illness?

Cheng Li seemed a bit hesitant, stalling for a while before saying, "Mr. Yi is getting a urological exam. He said it was because of an injury from Miss Yun’s kick a few days ago. This matter could be serious or trivial, so Miss Yun needs to come in person to talk it over with Mr. Yi."

    Yun Mu was stunned.

    What the heck...

    What kind of rubbish?

She couldn’t believe that her kick could have injured him that badly!

Now he wants to discuss it with her?

    Compensation? Really?

He must have thrown away all his dignity just to torment her!
