Chapter 145 Two Pearls (Baby Arc 6) (The End)
byChapter 145: Two Little Pearls (Baby Bonus Chapter 6) (Finale)
When Fu Nanyu arrived home, the whole family had gathered in the living room on the first floor, their eyes occasionally darting toward the second floor.
Seeing this, he knew immediately that the two little ones had gotten into trouble again and been taken back to their room by Lu Jingtang for a talking-to.
Although Ye Xixi and Fu Xiaqing, as grandparents, doted on their grandchildren, they also understood that when children misbehave, it doesn't help when one adult disciplines while another interferes.
If that happens, the children won’t truly realize their mistake. Instead, they’ll think it’s not a big deal and that they can get away with it, while nursing a grudge against the stricter adult.
Both Lu Jingtang and Fu Nanyu adhered to the principle of not disciplining their children in front of others. Even young children have their dignity, so any issues were addressed behind closed doors.
Whenever Lu Jingtang or Fu Nanyu's expressions turned stern, the others would instinctively step back, and the servants would go about their tasks more quietly.
After hearing what had happened from Ye Xixi, Fu Nanyu handed the dessert to a servant and headed upstairs.
The servants didn’t dare to follow him. The children’s door was slightly ajar, and Fu Nanyu walked in to find Tiaotiao and Shengsheng, two little puffballs, facing the wall as punishment.
Their chubby cheeks were streaked with tears. Children’s skin is delicate, and when they get emotional, their eyelids turn red, making their eyes look like dewy grapes.
Their hands, feet, and little rabbit-themed vests were still smudged with dirt from playing in the garden. They had been romping around with the two dogs earlier. Chen Ma, seeing them sweaty, worried they might catch a chill in the evening breeze and tried to bring them inside to change. But the two were still hyped up and struggled so much they nearly knocked out Chen Ma’s front teeth.
Chen Ma had come to the Fu family to work at the age of six after her family fell on hard times. After the three Fu brothers were born, Ye Xixi was busy taking over the company, and Fu Xiaqing was often away on assignments, so Chen Ma practically raised the three boys, almost like a second mother.
Chen Ma was now over sixty, and at her age, it was fortunate she hadn’t broken any bones.
When Fu Nanyu entered, Shengsheng and Tiaotiao twiddled their chubby fingers together and called out softly, “Daddy,” sneaking a glance at Lu Jingtang but not daring to move.
Lu Jingtang, barefoot, pattered over to Fu Nanyu and complained, “Brother, let me tell you, there are two little troublemakers in our house. They hurt someone and didn’t even apologize.”
“That’s really naughty. If they go to kindergarten, the other kids might not want to play with them,” Fu Nanyu said, playing along while skillfully using his foot to fish out the slippers Lu Jingtang had kicked under the bed.
Hearing this, the two little ones cried even harder, their sobs quiet and their small chests trembling.
Lu Jingtang’s heart softened. She knelt down with a tissue to wipe their tears. “Alright, alright, if you keep crying, we’ll have to send you to the Great Wall. Do you understand what you did wrong now?”
Tiaotiao and Shengsheng threw themselves into her arms, murmuring apologies, “Sorry, Mommy.”
Lu Jingtang hugged them. “Remember, making mistakes isn’t scary. What’s scary is knowing something is wrong and not fixing it.”
Tiaotiao and Shengsheng nodded, only half-understanding, then looked expectantly at Fu Nanyu with wide eyes. In their minds, Daddy always hugged them first when he came home. Now he wasn’t hugging them—making mistakes was truly terrifying.
Seeing their genuine remorse, Fu Nanyu finally reached out and picked them both up, his voice gentle. “Who are you going to apologize to later?”
“Grandma Chen.”
After the ordeal, the two little ones were somewhat deflated, their small pigtails drooping.
Ye Xixi affectionately patted their heads and re-tied their hair.
Though Tiaotiao and Shengsheng looked alike, they were easy to tell apart. Tiaotiao had smooth hair and a bright, outgoing personality, while Shengsheng, like Lu Jingtang, had natural curls but was much quieter and shyer.
You could always tell who was who by their hair.
Tiaotiao and Shengsheng squeezed into a single armchair, peeking out as Lu Jingtang came downstairs after changing clothes. Even Fu Nanyu had changed into casual wear, his expression calm but his gaze never leaving the person in front of him. In his hands were two children’s jackets with bunny ears—one pink, one blue.
Fu Nanyu walked to the sofa and said to the two children, “Come here, Daddy will help you with your jackets.”
Tiaotiao widened her eyes, steadying herself on her father’s broad shoulders, and whispered, “Daddy, the fireworks are already over.”
Originally, they had promised to take them to the amusement park to see the fireworks that evening.
Given the Fu family’s resources, they could easily arrange a private fireworks display just for them. But children need to interact with others—overprotecting them can backfire.
Fu Nanyu didn’t put on airs and said naturally, “As long as you behave, you won’t have to wait for the fireworks—the fireworks will wait for you.”
Once the father and daughters were ready and reached the door, Lu Jingtang was still laughing so hard she could barely stand, poking Fu Nanyu’s waist. “Haha… so commanding.”
Fu Nanyu didn’t seem annoyed at all, looking at her with a faint smile. “Is it that funny? Don’t I set off fireworks for you every day?”
“When did you…?” Lu Jingtang turned bright red when she realized what he meant and couldn’t help cursing, “You’re such a pervert.”
Fu Nanyu took it in stride. “Thank you for the compliment, dear.”
Though they had been married for five years, they hadn’t changed how they addressed each other. Terms like “husband” and “wife” were reserved for certain occasions.
Lu Jingtang turned and ran off.
Tiaotiao and Shengsheng chased after her, parroting, “Wife, don’t leave me!”
“Wife, wait for me!”
Their mischievous antics made the servants stifle giggles.
The yard was well-lit, so Fu Nanyu wasn’t worried about them tripping. He strolled leisurely behind them, his eyes holding a tenderness even he hadn’t noticed.
Life isn’t always filled with flowers and excitement, but watching the ones you love, loving what your heart holds dear—that is how you love yourself.
May every girl meet her own Fu Nanyu.
May every boy meet his own Lu Jingtang.
Our journey ends here.
Goodbye.
