    As one would wish...

Which man is As One Would Wish?

    This wasn't over yet.

The nun entered the food stall and, upon seeing the man on the phone, she cried out, "Daddy!"

Zhan Caijun froze, his expression gradually turning bewildered.

He had imagined being deceived, but never by a father-daughter duo.

"Hahaha, As One Would Wish! I think As Beautiful As A Flower is more like it!"

Ao Feng laughed heartily, then added a sarcastic remark, "Brother Jun, looks like you're still the lucky one. A father-daughter duo at your service, what a treat!"

Zhan Caijun was rendered speechless. The countless nights he spent longing for his girlfriend, dreaming of their intimate moments, all came to a crashing end. His youthful longing transformed into seething anger.

Unable to contain his rage, Zhan Caijun slammed the phone down and charged towards the food stall.

Qiao Xing was stunned but quickly rushed forward to embrace Shancaijun. Seeing Ah Feng still standing idle, he gave him a kick. "Hurry up and help!"

The three of them pressed down on Shancaijun together.

The commotion drew the attention of the father-daughter pair in the food stall. The nun, startled, made the sign of the cross on her chest and murmured an amen.

Shancaijun's face was flushed with anger as he continuously pushed down the three hands holding him, pointing at the bearded man and cursing fiercely.

    "F*ck you!"

"Even Jesus can't save you today!"

    Chapter 20

    The situation became momentarily chaotic.

The nun, facing the blank wall, kept making the sign of the cross and praying for God's mercy with an amen.

The burly bald man, despite avoiding Shancaijun's attacks, continued to speak in a falsetto voice. "Ah Jun, listen to my explanation."

Her voice was sweet, as if it belonged to an innocent young maiden.

Everyone was once again stunned into silence.

Shan Caijun clenched his teeth in agitation, his eyes reddening as if he were about to burst into tears. "Stop! Don't use Ruyi's voice anymore!"

Realizing that the truth had been exposed.

The bald man, with a beard, revealed a defeated expression under his whiskers and spilled everything.

Qiao Xing was astonished. "It was really you two, father and daughter, conning people?"

The nun was filled with shame and anger. Qiao Xing watched as she turned her face to the wall, her ears already completely red. Without saying a word, she continued to make the sign of the cross on the blank wall in penance.

"The eldest daughter didn't know at first. It was when Caijun came to Hong Kong that I couldn't keep it a secret any longer, so I asked her for help," the bald man explained, not wanting it to have come to this. "After she received the money, she went to church to confess."

Upon learning the truth behind the deception, Shan Caijun pushed away Ah Feng's hand that was on his shoulder, half-believing, "Did you really deceive me just to treat your younger daughter's illness?"

The bald man nodded, overwhelmed with guilt.

    "Daddy!"

Shan Caijun turned to the sound and saw his four-year-old daughter hobbling out of the messy kitchen, resembling a duck with her limp gait. Her innocent, clear eyes were filled with dirt, and her sickly face bore signs of neglect. Her limbs were curled up and distorted, making her appear much shorter than other children her age.

"Polio," the bald man sighed. "After a fever, she ended up like this. Most cases can be cured before the age of five, but we couldn't afford the surgeries. It was our last resort."

Speaking, the bald man retrieved ten thousand yuan from the room and placed it on the table. "I didn't touch a single cent of the money you gave me. Here, take it back."

Shan Caijun looked at his daughter and took a deep breath before finally standing up, gritting his teeth. "Did you scam anyone else?"

"No," the bald man denied hastily, a bitter smile on his face. "I stumbled upon you right from the start, and I lived in fear every day. I never imagined that my experience as a voice actor for TVB would come in handy for this. How could I dare to scam others after this?"

"Keep the money. Consider it a donation from me."

The bald man froze, having already prepared himself for a beating.

Ah Feng and the others were even more surprised. They hadn't expected Shan Caijun, who had been deceived, to forgive and let it go. If it were them, they surely wouldn't have been so magnanimous.

"It's not over yet," Shancai Jun spoke with a heart full of bitterness, recalling the voice that had deceived his affection. He indignantly demanded, "I want you to bid me farewell properly with Ruyi's voice."

For his first love in life, there must be a conclusion.

Thus, the bald man set up a plastic partition in the store and formally apologized to Shancai Jun using Ruyi's voice.

As Shancai Jun listened to the familiar yet foreign soft voice, he caressed the plastic partition, shedding his last tears as a heartbroken youth.

    He swore an oath.

From that day forward, there would be no more innocent Shancai Jun; only a cold, ruthless machine that had renounced love.

After leaving the construction site, Chu Yuening asked Zhong Guoming to take her back to Temple Street.

Upon arriving, Zhong Guoming rolled down the car window. Unable to easily stand due to his legs, he leaned out with effort, expressing gratitude, "Master Chu, I'll leave everything for tomorrow in your capable hands."

    "Rest assured," Chu Yuening replied.

As the car passed by Huatian Tower, Chu Yuening took a glance and was certain that all the life force absorbed from the construction site had converged into the skyscraper.

She decided to investigate the mall the next day, hoping to find some relevant information.

The white Toyota Corolla drove away, leaving Chu Yuening stretching her weary arms. Some stalls on Temple Street had already packed up, while others turned on the small bulbs inside their canopies.

Dim lights illuminated the road as neon signs along the street flickered on. The food cart Chu Yuening used for her stall had been left at the site under Shanpo's watchful eye. Fortunately, all the sweet soup was sold out; after all, Shanpo was no longer young, and Chu Yuening didn't want to overburden her with too much work.

Lost in thought, Chu Yuening's arm was suddenly bumped. She lifted her gaze to see who it was.

The woman had voluminous curly hair, wore a leather jacket over a spaghetti strap top, and held a cigarette between fingers lacquered in red polish. Chewing gum, she looped her left arm around a menacing-looking man.

Upon realizing she had bumped into someone, the woman turned, chewed her gum, and appraised Chu Yuening from head to toe. Raising the cigarette, she apologized, "Sorry, I was in a rush to start work and didn't notice you."

With the apology given, Chu Yuening waved it off nonchalantly.
