by 陈年奶泡Gan Yizu had just exchanged contact information with the girl when he patted Shi Boren on the shoulder. "Brother Ren, it's too dark outside. It's not safe for a girl to tail someone. Let's go too."
Zhou Fengxu tossed out a comment, "A human with the brains of a pig—better boiled in a soup." With that, he grabbed his windbreaker from the couch and followed.
Shi Boren picked up his newly purchased camera, muttering, "Why didn't you say something earlier? How was I supposed to know?"
"I could tell even if Brother Xu didn't say anything," Gan Yizu chimed in.
"Yi ya ya, let's go." Shi Boren raised his hand as if to swat at Gan Yizu, who ducked and hurried out through the bar's small door.
The group arrived at Meng Zhou's old house.
As soon as they opened the door,
Doris looked around the hall in surprise, bouncing on the leather sofa. "Wow, Ziyuan, you're amazing! This place looks ordinary from the outside, but it hides such secrets inside. If I had all this money, I'd be singing my way around the world, not being so low-key."
Friends who entered also expressed their admiration, each one either touching the sofa or feeling the carpet.
"Ai Shui has really stepped up, all these are high-end items."
"It wasn't like this the last time we were here."
Meng Zhou switched on the television and, with the remote control in hand, tuned it to the lottery channel. He then accurately tossed the remote into a vase before sitting down and wrapping his arm around Doris's shoulder. In a tipsy manner, he pointed at the screen, "In a little while, I'll be buying a new place, and everything here will be thrown out."
"Throwing them out? You might as well give them to us," a friend chimed in, taking a seat.
"Take them if you like them," Meng Zhou burped, then pointed at the TV again, "Shut up, the draw is starting."
It was exactly seven o'clock.
Everyone clutched their lottery tickets, their eyes glued to the screen. Meng Zhou, however, seemed indifferent, as if he already knew the outcome.
The grand lottery draw officially began, and everyone held their breath in anticipation. As the final blue ball dropped into the frame, there was a collective scream in the room that nearly lifted the humble roof off.
"We won! We won! The grand prize!"
"Doris! Brother Water! Another ten million!"
Doris shrieked, tugged at her curly hair, and pounced onto the sofa, showering Meng Zhou with kisses.
They had won again.
It was unbelievable to their friends.
Someone asked, "Brother Water, how many times have you won the lottery now?"
"Twice, I think," Meng Zhou replied after some thought. "I can't quite remember."
"You really win every time?"
Meng Zhou didn't seem to care. "Didn't you all see whether I won or not? But it's not something you can envy; it's just sheer luck. Otherwise, even if I gave you the same set of numbers, you wouldn't have won either."
One person began to see a pattern.
Luck was one thing, but could someone be lucky every single time?
This is too wicked, it's ridiculously so.
"H2O, do you think we're brothers for life?" This person pulled Meng Zhou aside to a corner, whispering away from others.
"Of course," Meng Zhou patted his chest. "I was at my wit's end, and only you were willing to lend me money without worrying about whether I could pay it back. Based on that alone, how could we not be brothers for life?"
The man then spoke solemnly, "What have you gotten yourself into? I've heard of geomancers who can set up a fortune-changing arrangement. Did you consult one? Blood brothers shouldn't keep secrets, you know my family's situation. If there's anything good, bring me in too."
This man had thought it through.
If setting up a geomantic arrangement could indeed change one's fortune, no matter the cost, he would borrow the money if he had to.
"This isn't exactly a fortune-changing arrangement," Meng Zhou admitted when he realized he couldn't hide it. "I need to find someone to borrow their luck."
"Borrow luck?" The man was confused. "Like borrowing someone else's fortune?"
Meng Zhou confirmed, "It's as simple as that."
"Simple?" The man hesitated. "Will it harm the other person's life?"
Meng Zhou recalled the person lying in the hospital, and his gaze shifted. "No... You're overthinking it. Do you really want to invite the master or not? If not, forget about it."
"Invite him!" the man gritted his teeth.
"After setting up the feng shui arrangement, we'll all head to Macau for a big gambling spree."
Chu Yuening had been waiting outside for a long time. She had just called Qiao Xing from a phone booth in the alley, asking him to come and help with the arrest.
Leaning against a tree, she turned her head to look back at the house, swatting away mosquitoes that were biting relentlessly. Had she brought her talismans and pen, she could have easily dealt with them. Shi Boren and the others were behind her, with Shi Boren futilely trying to scatter the mosquito swarm while scratching himself in agony. Gan Yizu was also frantically swatting, while Zhou Fengxu's windbreaker seemed to shield him from all physical attacks.
Shi Boren hissed, "It would be better to donate blood for charity than to be a feast for these mosquitoes."
Looking inside the house, Shi Boren speculated, "On such a dark and windy night, why would a single beauty choose to stake out a lone man? It can't just be because she has a crush on him..."
Zhou Fengxu, leaning against a tree, stared intently at the house until everyone inside emerged.
Meng Zhou bid farewell to his friends, waved his car key at Doris, and prepared to leave with her.
As the person was about to get into the vehicle, he released his grip: "Stop them right now!"
Shi Boren discarded the grass root he'd been chewing on, while Gan Yizu spit out his gum. Together, they dashed forward.
Before Chu Yuening could figure out how to approach the situation, Shi Boren and Gan Yizu had already pinned Meng Zhou to the ground. Zhou Fengxu pulled out handcuffs from his windbreaker's pocket and secured them on the suspect.
Staring at Meng Zhou writhing in pain on the ground, Chu Yuening was taken aback: "What a coincidence?"
Zhou Fengxu lifted the collar of Meng Zhou's shirt to pull him up, brushing off any dirt on his clothes as he went: "That's right, we just happened to be passing by."
Shi Boren rubbed his itchy, red bumps on his arm, his expression growing puzzled: "Wait, didn't we...?"
Zhou Fengxu gave him a look.
Shi Boren swallowed the rest of his words, scratching the increasingly itchy bumps as he mumbled: "Alright, you just happened to pass by, you're too dignified for this."
