by 陈年奶泡"Sigh, I've always told you to learn from Chen Siyu. She excels academically and still works hard." Kong Yunshan expressed his frustration with his students, who seemed to fall short of his expectations.
He waved his hand, preparing to depart.
The two students obediently bid their teacher farewell before resuming their previous conversation.
"A police officer has already come to the school for an investigation."
"Luo Youyou is truly vicious."
"They always seemed so amicable, living in the same dormitory. Who would have thought she'd resort to poisoning?"
The male student sighed, "And with thallium, no less. Tsk tsk tsk, a slight overdose could leave one bedridden for life. If not for Chen Siyu's timely discovery, we might never have known the cause of death."
"Thallium?" His friend was puzzled, then recalled something. He glanced around and whispered, "I suspect it might be connected to the thallium that went missing from the lab recently."
Kong Yunshan, who hadn't ventured too far away, overheard their entire conversation. It was as if he had been struck by lightning; his pupils constricted as he trembled, looking at them. "You... were just talking about Luo Youyou poisoning... Chen Siyu? With thallium?"
The male student exchanged a glance with his friend. "Yes, we suspect that Luo Youyou might have obtained the thallium from the lab."
Thallium is a severely hazardous metal. Occasionally, it's used for demonstrations in class. After each use, the laboratory staff meticulously seals it away.
Two weeks ago, however, they discovered that a few milligrams of thallium were missing. Since the quantity lost was insignificant, the school chose not to report it and speculated if it might have been due to experimental loss.
Many students were aware of this incident.
"Teacher? Teacher?"
Kong Yunshan regained his composure, pushed up his glasses, and slowly made his way towards the academic building as the student left.
"Thallium..."
He muttered the word absently, climbing the stairs step by step, his mind recalling Luo Youyou's late-night visit some time ago.
He had met Luo Tong at a business gathering, where Luo Tong had offered to fund his experiments. In his over fifty years, he had always lacked a true confidant, and Luo Tong had filled that role.
However, he also understood that Luo Tong had likely bribed more than one school teacher to turn a blind eye, providing favors for Luo Youyou.
Aside from the lab manager, he was one of the few who held a key to the laboratory.
Initially, he was surprised by Luo Youyou's intention to acquire thallium. Later, she insisted it was for an experiment and even threatened to withdraw her funding.
Their experimental drug had reached a critical phase. Pulling out now would be tantamount to signing his own death warrant.
Kong Yunshan's hands trembled as he held the thermos in his grasp. He never imagined that Luo Youyou... would use thallium to poison someone, and that person turned out to be his most beloved student.
Now that Luo Youyou was in police custody, if she were to implicate him, his once-stellar reputation would be irreparably ruined.
Opening the door, Kong Yunshan found two bodyguards waiting in his dormitory.
His voice quivered with fear and disbelief, "Y-You... You're from Mr. Luo's side."
One of the bodyguards, seemingly having found Kong Yunshan's travel suitcase, threw it onto the floor with a loud thud, causing Kong Yunshan to step back in alarm.
The other bodyguard, expressionless, handed over a contract while repeating Luo Tong's words in a cold, hard tone.
"Professor Kong, I assume you don't wish to see your hard work go to waste?"
"Get your things ready now, the flight tickets are already sorted."
In Office D.
Luo Tong sat calmly, his gaze fixed on the wall clock with an air of confidence.
He had everything planned out.
Kong Yunshan would soon meet his secret end on the way to the airport.
By then, there would be no evidence left, and he wondered how those incompetent police could possibly catch Yu You.
As he pondered, Luo Tong pointed and instructed, "You, get me a cup of coffee, with three teaspoons of sugar but not too hot."
With a face as dark as ink, Shi Boren turned away and grumbled under his breath, "Coffee, huh? Why don't you wish for a drink of urine and feces?"
The father of a criminal, making himself at home in the office and asking for coffee?
When did the police station turn into a tourist attraction?
Then, he grabbed a passing tea server, "Go get me a cup of coffee, iced, no sugar. I'll make him have diarrhea every day!"
The person nodded and acknowledged with an "oh."
Soon, the coffee was brought over. Luo Tong sat alone at the table, surrounded by lawyers.
Zhou Fengxu, Shi Boren, Chen Siyu, and Chu Yuening were all seated opposite him.
Luo Tong stroked the cold coffee, gave a cold smile, and slammed the cup down on the table. With a menacing look in his eyes, he directed them at Chen Siyu, "It was you who called the police, falsely accusing Yuanyuan of poisoning someone?"
Chen Siyu didn't expect to be targeted and was momentarily at a loss for words. "I'm not slandering; the hospital has evidence."
As she spoke, she reached for her medical report.
"Luo Tong waved off the need to see any proof. "Who knows which hospital you bought a fake report from?" He sized Chen Siyu up and down.
"As long as you can run and move, that proves you're still alive. Poisoning or not, do the petty squabbles between young girls really matter? I advise you to be sensible and withdraw the case voluntarily. The longer you stay in this unlucky police station, the more likely you'll attract misfortune."
Qing Yuening helped the emotionally agitated and choked Chen Siyu sit in the back.
Shi Boren considerately positioned himself in front of Chen Siyu, blocking Luo Tong's scrutinizing gaze.
"Mr. Luo truly has excellent upbringing," Chu Yuening glanced across the room. "As they say, like father, like son. It's not hard to see where Miss Luo's demeanor comes from."
Luo Tong turned to the person who dared to speak back, fixing Chu Yuening with a cold smile. "I wondered who could be so audacious and arrogant. Turns out it's just a fortune-telling swindler from the streets. Do you think appearing on a show grants you entry into refined circles?"
