    Chapter Index

In the next instant, Fang Kaize suddenly lost his footing, pulling Fang Jingguo down with him in a loud crash.

Fang Jingguo's suit was torn, and he scrambled to his feet to scold Fang Kaize, "Idiot, can't you watch where you're going?!"

"I didn't know why I tripped either," Fang Kaize replied angrily, covering his bleeding nose while shooting a glare at Chu Yuening.

With their embarrassing mishap, there was no time for cleanup. Fang Jingguo hastily brushed off his suit and, guided by his secretary, hurried into his office.

    Two hours later.

Exiting the building once more, Fang Jingguo finally wore a relieved smile. "With Hua Xin Group's investment, our company has weathered the crisis. Everything is back on track."

"The master didn't deceive me after all."

Fang Kaize scoffed, brushing his blond hair. "If the master were really effective, we would have overcome the crisis with just one wealth-attracting formation."

Fang Jingguo shook his head. "You don't understand. This master is already quite skilled. Masters who can break a formation or curse with a single talisman or incantation – there aren't many like that, not even in all of Greater China, let alone Hong Kong."

Fang Kaize nodded perfunctorily, looking around impatiently. "Dad, are we really going to call the Chu sisters home for dinner? I really can't stand them. They always give us the cold shoulder, as if we owe them something. I lose my appetite just looking at them."

    "After all, we're a family."

Fang Jingguo thought of the seven thousand he owed the Chu family and the secret family he maintained outside their knowledge, which made him feel guilty. It was with that money that he had prospered in Hong Kong. If Chu Yuening had been smoother in her requests for it, he might have given it to her. But every time she asked, she brought up the past.

He had achieved success and fame; how could he allow outsiders to know that his business relied on his father-in-law's money? It would be utterly humiliating.

How could a man who married into a family have the pride of being self-made?

    At six in the evening.

After waiting for a long while, Chu Yuening finally saw Hua Bin enter the parking lot and leave in his car. She quickly hopped onto her food cart and cautiously followed behind.

She glanced back at the construction site from a distance.

As expected, her suspicions were confirmed.

With the number of deaths not sufficient, Hua Hongye was utterly incapable of regaining clarity. The construction site was steeped in a thicker aura of malevolence; more lives would be lost tonight.

Hua Bin parked his car at a billiards hall in Mong Kok. Chu Yuening, having parked hers, promptly opened the ice lolly box. To avoid drawing attention, she took out translucent plastic bags filled with syrup water and donned the Chu Ji apron before entering the billiards hall, carrying her wares along.

The billiard room was illuminated with bright lights.

Upon entering, Hua Bin was promptly greeted by someone who handed him a cue stick and, with a smile, lit the cigarette clenched between his teeth.

"Mr. Bin, Young Master San also brought a beautiful lady to play just now."

Hua Bin took the cue, holding it between his lips as he leaned over the billiards table. His index finger poised the stick, and upon hearing the mention of Third Master, a hint of hostility flickered across his face.

"You're better off attending to Third Master sooner rather than lingering here with me," he said tersely.

The man, quick to react, noticed that most of the balls had been pocketed. He then grinned obsequiously. "What I do with Third Master is none of your concern, Young Master Bin. It's you who has shown me kindness."

Afterward, the man lowered his voice and inquired, "Young Master Bin, is Chairman Hua fully awake?"

At the mention of this, Hua Bin's brows knitted together in frustration as he took an agitated drag from his cigarette. "No, if it weren't for the fear of causing trouble, I would've wanted the old man to wake up immediately."

"It'll be troublesome if he doesn't," the man expressed concern for Hua Bin. "If he doesn't wake up, wouldn't the Western Australian mining industry fall right into Third Young Master's lap?"

Everyone knew that Hua Hongye had been quite the ladies' man in his youth, taking four wives in total. Among them, Third Young Master from the third wife was his favorite.

This year, aware that his time was running out, Hua Hongye divided all his assets equally among his four wives. He allotted the newly invested Western Australian mining venture to the first and third houses.

The investment in Western Australian mining hadn't been around long, but it had already brought numerous good news. The resources there were abundant, ensuring a lifetime of comfort for whoever held it.

Hua Bin had previously groveled before Hua Hongye to obtain this industry, enduring scolding and ridicule. He had worked tirelessly, waking up earlier than chickens and sleeping later than dogs.

Assuming that Hua Hongye would see his efforts and grant him the Western Australian mining venture, he was surprised to find that it was bequeathed directly to the third house in the will.

Hua Bin's eyes brimmed with hostility. "I've been the one consistently overseeing the Western Australian business. Hua Wenhao is nothing but a good-for-nothing who enjoys leisure and pleasure. He's never shown any concern for the Western Australian matters. On what basis does he deserve it?"

"Second Brother isn't convinced?" Hua Bin turned his head.

"Sigh, too bad. Father has already handed over the Western Australia assets to me. What's the point of your boasts?" Hua Wenhao playfully grinned, embracing a young beauty as he taunted from behind.

Hua Bin picked up his cue and sank another ball, sneering. "It's still uncertain whose deer will fall. Father is still alive, so why are you in such a hurry?"

Hua Wenhao continued his jibes. "Oh, yes. Father may still be breathing, but he's not in his right mind. If you're so confident, why don't you ask Father to personally give you the Western Australia assets? Loser."

The tension was about to escalate into a fight when the billiards room manager quickly stepped in to mediate, eventually separating the two.

Chu Yuening entered and found a seat, selecting a bowl of fresh sweet soup from her bag. She sipped it with a spoon while watching the drama unfold.

By now, the identity of the trap setter could be roughly determined, but the location of the life-sucking array remained unknown.

The door to the billiards room opened, and a fashionable woman with curly hair entered. Dressed in a black cheongsam, she removed her sunglasses and immediately spotted Chu Yuening leisurely enjoying her sweet soup. Recalling something, she asked,

    "Are you selling sweet soup?"

Chu Yuening, still savoring the dessert, cheeks slightly puffed, nodded in affirmation.

The woman rummaged through a plastic bag on the table.

Several of the bowls had been brought by Chu Yuening from the Huaxin Building. Due to the extended time spent there, they might have spoiled.

Just as Chu Yuening was about to object, the woman had already taken one bowl, lifted the lid, and tasted it. Afterward, she gave high praise.

"Not bad at all. My daughter loves sweet soups. You could teach our Filipino maid; we can discuss the compensation."
