by"Spiritually dead, money holds no value."
Chu Yuening consoled, "If your heart is dead, you're already in the hospital. You can still live for decades without any major issues."
Shan Caijun completely ignored her and continued his lamentation.
"I've truly seen through emotions after coming to Hong Kong. Love is fleeting and intangible. If I truly loved Ruyi, I wouldn't have cared about their gender or status."
In foreign lands, same-sex relationships were more prevalent.
Shan Caijun had genuinely reflected on this.
"I was furious to be deceived, but it also made me understand the essence of love. Hence..."
"Hence what?" Chu Yuening prompted.
"Hence, I've decided never to marry," Shan Caijun said after careful consideration, his expression earnest. "If I do, let me become paralyzed from the waist down."
With that, Shan Caijun waved goodbye. "Goodbye, I need to catch a flight to Malaysia."
Chu Yuening had intended to offer a word of caution, but upon seeing the hint of red at the corners of Shancai Jun's eyes and the moisture in his gaze – a classic sign of a romantic encounter – she realized he would soon experience a fateful meeting with his destined love after this upheaval.
She swallowed her words, silently reflecting on the situation.
With only half a year left before stepping into the proverbial marital grave, wasn't it rather harsh to utter such a dire prediction?
Unfortunately, Shancai Jun was oblivious to her thoughts.
As office workers in Hong Kong streamed into the Huatian Building, Chu Yuening retrieved several pre-packed desserts from an ice cream cart and blended in with the crowd, entering the elevator with them.
The Hua Xin Group's offices were on the 8th floor. As soon as the employees arrived, they were engrossed in their work, paying no attention to Chu Yuening. Even if they did notice her, they would assume she was a colleague's food delivery for some sweet dessert.
With a bowl of syrup in hand, Chu Yuening scanned the area but found nothing out of the ordinary. She then heard the office ladies seated at their workstations, busily opening envelopes and engaging in whispered conversations.
"Chairman Hua is expected to come. Shall we head to the rooftop for a look?"
Another corporate beauty wondered, "Chairman? Didn't something happen to him last month? I heard he was in the ICU for a long time but still survived?"
The well-groomed office lady was interrupted by a colleague who covered her mouth before she could finish speaking.
"Whether he's actually deceased or not remains uncertain, but there are rumors that he'll be here. You should lower your voice. If the General Manager catches you cursing the Chairman, you might lose your job."
Chu Yuening carried her bowl of sweet soup past the workstations, entered the elevator, and pressed the button for the top floor.
Chapter 21
Hua Hongye, the Chairman and Director of Hua Xin Group, had originally built his fortune sixty years ago in the mainland through the cotton yarn business before migrating to Hong Kong to establish Hua Xin Group.
The group's investments spanned a wide range of industries.
With his sharp investment acumen, the company had enjoyed steady growth, eventually becoming the most renowned investment group in Hong Kong. Hua Hongye himself had even secured a place on the city's list of top ten billionaires.
Recalling the information she had gleaned from Zhong Chuguo, Chu Yuening heard the elevator chime and checked the floor number displayed above. She then exited with her bowl of sweet soup in hand.
The top floor was lavishly decorated compared to the regular staff levels. Most occupants here held high-ranking positions and worked in their own private offices.
No one paid any attention to Chu Yuening with her bowl of sweet soup, nor did anyone notice that she was not an employee of Hua Xin Group.
After all, there were thousands of employees in the Huaxin Building; who could possibly recognize every single one?
Chu Yuening placed the sweet soup on a chair and scanned her surroundings. The door bearing the label "Chairman's Office" caught her attention.
A stream of dark aura was seeping from beneath the door.
Just as she was pondering how to enter,
a cleaning auntie emerged, wearing gloves and carrying a bucket. With a distressed look, she grumbled, "Chairman Hu didn't even give a heads-up before coming. It's exhausting! Having to clean the entire floor in just ten minutes is a herculean task, even with three heads and six arms."
As she spoke, the auntie dramatically set the bucket down on the ground and pushed open the office door.
Seizing the opportunity, Chu Yuening peered through the open doorway and gave the cleaning auntie a warm smile. "Let me help you."
The auntie's face, which had been filled with the frustration of an endless workload, suddenly lit up with a smile. "Really? Won't it be troublesome for you? Never mind, your hands are delicate and shouldn't get calloused."
"No worries," Chu Yuening replied with a cheerful tilt of her eyebrows as she took the bucket into the office and voluntarily grabbed the rag to wipe the desk.
As she cleaned, she assessed the surroundings.
Upon entering, one would directly face the desk, with the executive chair towering significantly over the guest chairs. In feng shui terms, this is known as the "left Green Dragon, right White Tiger, with the Vermilion Bird below," signifying an elevated position that allows for better control over subordinates.
In a business negotiation, such an arrangement would advantage the boss and give them the upper hand.
To the left stood a full wall of brown-red bookshelves, their empty spaces not only filled with financial magazines but also adorned with photo frames. On the right side of the door, leaning against the wall, was a stand holding a fish tank with four goldenfish swimming within.
It was evident that Hua Xin had consulted a feng shui master to arrange the office space, as every detail seemed meticulously planned.
However, why were there only four goldenfish in the tank? The number four, in Cantonese, sounds similar to the word for "death," a taboo in Hong Kong culture. It was peculiar that such a carefully designed feng shui setup included four goldenfish.
Curiosity piqued, Chu Yuening found it odd. After wiping down the large desk, she approached the bookshelf with her cleaning cloth.
The cleaning auntie, efficient in her work, had already cleaned up most of the office. The more she watched Chu Yuening, the happier she became. "Miss, which department do you work in? Next time when it's my turn to clean downstairs, I'll make sure your workspace is spotless!"
Assuming Chu Yuening belonged to one of the departments due to her presence on this floor, the auntie offered her assistance.
Faced with the persistent inquiry, Chu Yuening had no choice but to be vague. "I've just arrived, so I'm not aware of the department's name yet."
The auntie, assuming that new employees would always be informed of their department, pondered as she mopped the floor. She couldn't help but assess Chu Yuening's attractive appearance, and a realization dawned upon her.
It all made sense now.
She must be one of those favored ladies connected to Chairman Hua's third son. Countless women had been internally arranged, hoping to win his heart and become the young madam. Unfortunately, the third son seemed immune to such pursuits.
