by 陈年奶泡With a firm swipe across Little Qingguang's forehead, Chu Yuening pressed her index and middle fingers together to inscribe an invisible charm. "There, all done."
Sure enough.
As soon as the charm was completed, Little Qingguang's crying ceased abruptly.
"Wow! It really works!" The plump man was astounded. He lifted the scarecrow and asked, "Master, does this scarecrow have the power to ward off evil spirits? Should we hang it up when we get back?"
"No," Chu Yuening replied. "When you return, write your birth dates on slips of paper and insert them inside the scarecrow."
She glanced at the sky.
Night had officially fallen.
She withdrew her gaze. "It's getting late. Hurry back and write down your birth dates. Don't look back when you leave the neighborhood. Remember, the birth dates must be accurate, not a single digit can be wrong."
She intended to use the scarecrow, bearing the birth dates, as a substitute for living beings.
"Alright then, we'll head back first." Nancy and the fatty exchanged glances before they each took to the side staircases.
They didn't dare use the elevator anymore, even if it meant climbing up the floors.
Seeing the old lady struggling at the back, climbing the stairs with difficulty, Chu Yuening linked arms with her and guided her back towards the elevator. "Come this way, let me help you up."
"O...Okay, okay, okay." The old lady had been afraid of the elevator, but hearing that Chu Yuening would accompany her put her at ease.
With her aged eyes, she glanced at the soot from the talisman still adhering to the elevator button.
She knew that it was this young lady who had helped them escape the elevator just now.
Though she was old, her mind was still sharp. She had mentioned that someone had set a feng shui trap in the neighborhood – it was clear that the person across the hall was already planning to take their lives. Didn't the scarecrow serve as a substitute for them, a means to save their lives?
"Child, thank you so much," the old lady wept with gratitude. She had no children or spouse, and her partner had passed away long ago. If not for Chu Yuening's willingness to help, she might have perished in her room.
"You're quite welcome, Grandma," Chu Yuening gently assisted the elderly woman back to her residence.
Exiting the elevator, they found themselves in a lengthy corridor.
Apparently, with all the residents having moved out, property management had become neglectful. The hallway was piled with all sorts of trash, and a thick layer of dust covered the ground, leaving footprints with every step taken.
After confirming the location of the old lady's dwelling, they proceeded.
She couldn't help but laugh through her anger as she saw the large gossip mirror hanging on the opposite door of her grandmother's.
Next, he brandished the peach wood sword, slashing at the mirror in mid-air.
With a snap, the gossip mirror shattered into pieces.
Auntie trembled with fright.
Chu Yuening reassured, "It's alright, Grandma. You won't have any more nightmares from now on."
In another villa.
Zhan Jun slapped down a hand of cards, laughing triumphantly. "Straight flush! Pay up! My luck today is off the charts."
"Indeed, Brother Zhan is unbeatable. Good fortune always follows you." The others flattered him, handing over the money before cautiously asking,
"Brother Zhan, how's the collection going for those houses in the Garden Estate? Have they all cleared out?"
"Not yet. Chattering away, huh? Trying to snatch a piece of the pie from me?" Zhan Jun's previously good mood soured at the interruption.
The man hurried to clarify, "How dare I compete with Brother Zhan? I just wanted to inquire about the progress. I heard the stubborn old timers who stayed behind are being difficult, refusing to move even with money."
"Spot on, it's laughable," Zhan Jun grumbled, dealing another card. He glanced at the table first.
At that moment, the butler approached and whispered something in Zhan Jun's ear.
Putting down his cards, Zhan Jun stood up, looking at the two players beside the table. "You guys carry on."
He entered a room, picked up the phone, and shot a glance back.
The butler carefully closed the door and stood guard outside.
"Master Guang," Zhan Jun's demeanor changed entirely, forcing a smile on his face.
There was no helping it; Guang Deye was a genuine and skilled feng shui master. Moreover, he dared to tackle issues that many other feng shui consultants would avoid.
Even though Zhan Jun was already wealthy, he didn't wish to casually offend Guang Deye.
"Is it time yet?"
Upon receiving an affirmative response, Zhan Jun, still concerned about potential fatalities, asked, "Master Guang, if someone were to lose their life, would it affect my ability to renovate and resell the property in the future?"
"After all, I'm a businessman. If the situation escalates too much and impacts my future deals, I'll surely have to exercise caution."
Assuming that his sincerity would sway Guang Deye, Zhan Jun expected the master to take the circumstances into account. To his surprise, Guang Deye seemed completely unconcerned.
"It can be stopped, but you need to think this through. If the people inside don't move out, there's no chance of reclaiming those floors."
Guang Deye continued reassuringly, "Don't worry, Mr. Zhan. There are so many properties in Hong Kong, hasn't something like this happened before? Land resources are limited, and once new apartments hit the market, demand will exceed supply. Besides, the feng shui of Garden Estate is excellent; you'll surely make a fortune if you purchase it."
"Shall we proceed?"
Buying it would surely lead to great wealth!
Zhan Jun, seemingly under a spell, eventually agreed resolutely, "Yes, let's do it!"
"Masters, what specific ritual are we performing?"
"Of course, we'll be burning the squabs with fire," Guang Deye revealed a chilling smile.
After hanging up the call, Guang Deye, dressed in a yellow Taoist robe, turned around with his hands behind his back. "Have all the items been prepared?"
"Master, don't worry, everything is ready," the disciple assured as he led the way to their dedicated office.
Upon opening the office door, they found the altar already set up. It was adorned with two candles, cinnabar, talismans, black dog blood, and a copper bell with black threads. The disciples, there to learn and observe, filled half the office and greeted Guang Deye in unison upon his entrance.
"Master!"
"Hmm." Guang Deye glanced at them and picked up the bronze bell on the desk. "You've been with me for quite some time now. Learn from this."
