by 陈年奶泡Who is Xu Dan?
Apart from being born into an illustrious family, she married into the Zhou family, the most prominent elite clan in Hong Kong. People invited her to play cards as a way to curry favor with her. If Xu Dan didn't participate, there was no fun for anyone else.
So, the group simply accompanied Xu Dan to watch a metaphysics show, only to become increasingly astonished as they watched.
The girl on the show was incredibly talented. Not only did she predict cancer in advance, but she also uncovered a case of a female college student being poisoned – more remarkable than any hospital's X-ray machine.
Upon the program's conclusion, it piqued the curiosity of many wealthy ladies, who lined up at Temple Street the very next morning.
"How was it? When will you be on the show again? I'll arrange for people to support you, so those narrow-minded feng shui masters won't take advantage of you being new," Xu Dan said, annoyed by the sarcastic feng shui experts on the show.
She resolved to confront them herself the next time.
"I'm not sure," Chu Yuening shook her head and chuckled. "I didn't inquire about it at the time."
At that moment,
The two women standing by exchanged glances and spoke in conciliatory tones.
"Master Chu, to be honest, I've always wanted to get in line for a fortune-telling session but never managed to," the lady said with an embarrassed smile. "I was wondering if you could help me out, perhaps pull some strings?"
Just as Chu Yuening was about to politely decline, Xu Dan beat her to it. "Pull strings? Fortune-telling is all about fate. With your family's prosperous background and healthy children, there's no urgent need. It would be best if you sincerely woke up early to queue on your own."
Upon hearing this, both ladies felt quite awkward.
They were accustomed to a life of luxury; even queuing up was done by others. How could they possibly wake up early?
"Mrs. Zhou does have a point."
But when it came to mystic arts and fortune-telling, they recalled the news they had seen earlier that morning. So, they asked, "Master Chu, you're from the Profound Sect. Have you heard about the Qi family? It's been all over Hong Kong's major newspapers since early this morning."
"Qi Ru sacrificed his wife and daughter to set up an evil feng shui formation for prosperity. In just one night, he was haunted by ghosts and ended up committing suicide with a gun. The young master of the Qi family even established a charity foundation, pouring all the family's wealth into it, leaving only the Qi family's estate behind. It seems he even entered a Taoist temple," she said, both of them now feeling uneasy. Such a malevolent act of killing one's spouse and child was terrifying, and they feared becoming the next victims.
"Master Chu, is the story about the Qi family true?" Chu Yuening wondered if Qi Tianrui had donated all his assets because they were tainted with the blood of his loved ones, making him unable to bear using them.
She nodded in confirmation.
"It's true."
"Such a thing actually happened?" Xu Dan was startled. Though wealthy families often consulted feng shui masters, she had never heard of such a poisonous ritual.
She recalled meeting Qi Ru's wife and daughter at a social gathering. The matriarch had raised her children with great care, and the news of their demise sent a chill down Xu Dan's spine. She muttered under her breath, "Killing his wife and daughter – he truly couldn't find peace even in death!"
This thought made Xu Dan uneasy once more.
With a son serving as a police officer, she was always fearful of any mishaps.
She held onto Chu Yuening's arm. "Ning Ning, when you have time, I'll visit your shop and ask for a protective amulet for my son."
"Sure thing," Chu Yuening replied with a gentle smile, glancing at the sky while holding the prawns. "It's getting late. I should head back now."
"Alright." Xu Dan patted her hand affectionately. "I have connections at the TV station. If anyone bullies you again, be sure to tell me."
Grateful for Sister Dan's kindness, Chu Yuening acknowledged it and turned to make another trip to the breakfast store.
Not long after the group had dispersed, a man in a hoodie emerged from the neighboring building. He seemed anxious, clutching something tightly as he walked over to a trash can and threw it in.
There was a thud.
Despite the number of passersby, no one bothered to look into the trash can. Soon, two children were playfully scuffling on their way to school, and one of them accidentally ended up sprawled on top of the bin.
The trash can swayed a few times.
Amidst a pungent stench and a pile of kitchen waste, a wadded tissue was scattered, revealing a glinting dagger with a sharp blade.
A few crimson droplets trickled down the razor-sharp edge.
Back in her apartment, Chu Yuening placed the prawn in the kitchen sink before pushing open the bedroom door.
The girl, curled up in her covers, hadn't even opened her eyes. Hearing the sound, she sat up, her hair in a disheveled mess. "Sis, where did you go so early in the morning?"
"I just went downstairs for a jog. Are you going to sell mineral water today?" Chu Yuening originally planned on suggesting that Chu Yi come back for lunch after selling the water.
"I won't be going, I'll help out at the shop." Chu Yi rubbed her eyes, giggling with her bird's nest hairdo. "Sis's shop needs hands too, and the mineral water business outside already has people helping!"
"You've already hired people?" Chu Yuening was intrigued. "It's grown quite big, huh?"
"It's a bit big," Chu Yi counted on her fingers. "Wong Chuk Hang, Yau Ma Tei, Tsim Sha Tsui – I've taken over several locations. The adults look down on these places, so no one competes, and it's grown bigger as a result."
Ever since the feng shui store had opened.
Chu Yi had ventured into the mineral water business, claiming it was for employee development, but in reality, she had secured prime locations and hired people to help sell the water. She took care of paying salaries and wages.
She had already leased several major sports fields in Kowloon City, and after deducting daily expenses and labor costs, her net profit amounted to six hundred dollars per day.
Upon hearing this, Chu Yuening couldn't help but be impressed.
Chu Yi was truly a natural-born entrepreneur.
At this rate, there was a real possibility that the wealthiest person in Hong Kong might change in the future.
