by 陈年奶泡That was the best they could do for now.
He looked at Chu Yuening, who was rubbing her temples in exhaustion, and stood up, picking up the car keys from his desk. "Ning Ning, don't put too much pressure on yourself. Take it slow."
Ning Ning was still new to the major crimes unit; carrying too much stress could easily lead to emotional breakdowns.
He had gone through the same experience back then.
Shi Boren chimed in, "Yeah, go home and get some rest. You can tackle the case with renewed energy tomorrow."
"Mm." Chu Yuening didn't insist and got up. "Call me the moment you have any information about the victim tomorrow."
"No problem," replied Gan Yizu, who was on duty. He stood up, made a cup of coffee, and signaled an OK sign towards Chu Yuening. "I'll be the first to give you a call, Sister Ning."
Everyone dispersed, preparing to head home.
As Zhou Fengxu accompanied Chu Yuening out of the D Unit office, they ran into Qiu Hao, the scarred man with a cold expression, and Feiyu, who occasionally bit on his metal necklace, coming from the 0 Team's direction.
"Master Chu?" Qiu Hao was surprised, not expecting to encounter the Master at the police station.
Feiyu's reaction was more direct, assuming that Chu Yuening had encountered some trouble, causing her to enter the police station. He immediately relaxed his grip, and the iron necklace dropped, revealing a fierce expression as he scanned the surroundings. "Hey! You cops are so pushy! You just drag people away!"
"No, not at all," Chu Yuening smiled. "I've already joined the police force; I have an official number."
"Oh, right!" Feiyu suddenly remembered, slapping his forehead and chuckling. "I almost forgot that Master is also on the public payroll."
"Master Chu," Qiu Hao said with a smile. "I wonder when you might have some time to help me and A'Ling choose an auspicious date for our wedding banquet?"
To be honest, neither his nor A'Ling's fate was particularly good. Two people with bad luck together were said to encounter even more troubles. He wanted to seek some fortune, and according to astrology, selecting a harmonious time for a couple in love to wed would improve their destiny.
He himself didn't mind much.
But he didn't want A'Ling to suffer any more after marrying him.
"You're getting married soon?" Chu Yuening asked with a smile. "No rush, I have time now to help you calculate."
Qiu Hao recited their birth dates again.
Chu Yuening calculated using her fingers. "Your birth dates make for an excellent match, indicating a superior marriage. The ideal wedding date should fall on a double month, not a single one. This year, the best time would be on the eighth day of next month. Would that be too hasty?"
"No, not at all rushed." Brother Qiu, having heard that their marriage was highly auspicious, couldn't contain his grin. "With my many brothers, organizing a banquet is a piece of cake."
Suddenly, he recalled something and whispered while looking around, "Master... there's one thing I still don't understand. Could you please shed some light on it for me?"
Seeing that no one else was around, Fisherman Brother also hurriedly approached. "Yes, Master, please take a look at me too."
"What's the matter?" Chu Yuening glanced at the two men's faces in confusion. After a moment, she understood their situation when she saw their unfortunate facial features.
"Isn't it because the police have been bothering us lately, constantly coming to harass us even when we haven't done anything wrong?" Fisherman sighed.
Qiu Hao also furrowed his brow, and the scar on his face contorted along with the arch of his eyebrow. He reached up to touch the corner of his mouth. "Recently, an international drug trafficking syndicate has been trying to make contact with us here in Hong Kong. The Organized Crime and Triad Bureau wants us to become informants."
An "informant," or a "traitor," as they called it.
Chu Yuening understood.
"How could anyone dare betray the boss? They'd be killed instantly." Fisherman, who had been frequenting the police station, scratched his disheveled hair in distress.
"You're unsure about what to do?"
Indeed, apart from the top leader, Qiu Hao and Flying Fish hadn't committed any heinous deeds in the 14K. They didn't dabble in drug trafficking or murder.
The O Branch had naturally investigated these facts. Considering Qiu Hao and Flying Fish's long-standing influence and reputation within the gang, they sought to turn them.
Qiu Hao looked grim. "In this world of triads, if you become a traitor, even in death, you'll be cursed. I have A'Ling. If anything happens, not only will I be unable to stay in Hong Kong, but A'Ling will have nowhere to hide."
"But the police offered an attractive deal. Our past misdeeds can be wiped clean. All we need to do is agree to become their informants."
"Master, what should I choose?"
Even without divination, Chu Yuening knew the future of Hong Kong. After its return, under the mainland's intervention, there would be a relentless crackdown on the criminal underworld.
Many powerful gangs would disintegrate overnight, and numerous bosses would end up behind bars.
"How to choose? Do you really need to choose?" Chu Yuening blinked. "You must become informants. Don't worry, your fate will improve as long as you cooperate. Besides, being informants could save more lives. Drug dealing ruins countless families. Your good deeds will offset your past wrongs, and if you do well, you might even accumulate positive karma."
"Really?" The dilemma that plagued Qiu Hao was suddenly resolved, and he smiled. "I may not trust anyone else, but I'll definitely heed Master's words."
"I'll listen too." Flying Fish chuckled, pulling out his wallet to pay the five thousand dollars.
Qiu Hao had paid the hefty sum of one hundred thousand for the divination.
Little did they know that this very reading would alter their destinies in the days to come.
Within two days, the Fourteen Gang's boss was arrested for money laundering, causing the gang to disintegrate overnight.
The pair then switched allegiances, joining another criminal organization. They later assisted the police in dismantling numerous criminal syndicates, working as undercover agents until they safely reached the age of fifty and retired with a pension.
Throughout the conversation, Zhou Fengxu had considerately given his girlfriend some space to talk. After they finished chatting, Chu Yuening noticed that the corridor was now empty, and Zhou Fengxu was nowhere to be seen.
Feiyu understood the situation immediately and nudged Qiu Hao, his gaze filled with teasing. "Brother Qiu, let's go. Officer Zhou must be getting anxious."
"Indeed, indeed." Qiu Hao smiled mischievously, sharp-eyed enough to perceive the special relationship between Officer Zhou and Master Chu. "I really need to improve my observational skills."
