"No, I'm quite satisfied."
For the remainder of the time, Wan Cheng respectfully left Chu Da to his own devices, allowing the two sisters to explore the mansion at their leisure.
Once everyone had departed, Chu Yi let loose completely. Gazing at the pool filled with blue water, her eyes sparkled like 500-watt bulbs, brimming with excitement. "Sis! This is a swimming pool! I've only swum in ponds before; I've never been in a pool!"
As she spoke, she began to shed her outerwear, ready to dive in. But just as her legs lifted off the ground, an unseen force pulled her back.
Chu Yuening grabbed Chu Yi by the back of her shirt, observing the young girl thrashing about like a turtle, desperate to jump into the water. She felt the emptiness in her pocket and furrowed her brow in confusion.
"A Yi, have you seen my exorcism charm?"
"Nope," replied Chu Yi.
Chu Yuening counted on her fingers, then shook her head after a moment, sighing with a sense of loss.
Initially, she was supposed to visit the Fang family to dispel some malevolent influences. After all, with the Fang family's escalating fortune borrowing, it would soon start affecting the lives of those they borrowed from.
Now, however, things had taken an unexpected turn.
She never dropped charms, but this time, her slip actually spared her a hassle.
Chapter 149
After touring the mansion, the two descended the mountain.
Throughout the journey, Chu Yi appeared exceptionally thrilled. Despite usually being mindful of her composure, she couldn't resist skipping about today, her long braids swaying energetically with each bounce.
She embodied the essence of a 14-year-old girl, brimming with excitement over something she had always dreamed of.
"I want to fill my bedroom with Gudetama dolls once we move in. Sister, we now have a massive, massive house!" Chu Yi dramatically spread her arms wide, outlining an imaginary circle.
"Sister, what do you want to do?"
Chu Yuening pursed her lips, pondering seriously for a moment before blinking in surprise. "Sleep... together?"
She felt that the bed in the master bedroom of the mansion was very comfortable to sleep on.
Touching the soft and fluffy bedding, she could have a very cozy nap.
"Huh?" Chu Yi's drawn-out tone was filled with disappointment, and her small face drooped along with her shoulders. Then, with a sudden jolt, her eyes lit up.
"Sis, I learned how to swim at school. The coach said it's essential to have a survival skill at all times. How about this? I'll pay for a private tutor for you to learn swimming? We have a pool now anyway, and the water bill is quite expensive. You might as well learn."
Chu Yuening held up a hand to signal a pause. "Thanks, but I really dislike water. There's no way I'd learn how to swim."
"Aww... If only I were the one swimming in the pool, wouldn't that be a waste?" Chu Yi frowned, her delicate brows furrowing together on her little face.
"Sis, are we moving today?"
"Moving," Chu Yuening replied without hesitation.
The apartment lease was almost up for renewal, and with a new place to settle into, it would be more convenient to move sooner. However, the distance between the mansion on the hilltop and Temple Street was considerable. She had no intention of getting a driver's license, and there were too many things to focus on with the shop. Chu Yi wasn't old enough yet either.
But some form of transportation was still necessary.
After much contemplation,
Chu Yuening decided that once she moved in, she would need to purchase a car and hire a driver.
In the blink of an eye, the two of them had returned to their apartment in Victoria City.
Chu Yuening planned to call Zhang Jiande. They had acquired quite a number of items since moving into the apartment, and the house was situated far away. Taxis wouldn't be able to accommodate everything, so it would be more convenient to hire a moving company.
She didn't have the contact details for a moving company, but Brother De surely did.
Just as she reached for her handheld phone in her bag,
a voice called out.
"Ning Ning."
Chu Yuening looked up and saw a row of people crouched beneath the apartment building.
Zhou Fengxu held a blade of grass between his teeth, his white T-shirt paired with a shirt gave him a slightly colder appearance. But when he saw Chu Yuening appear, his eyes couldn't hide his delight, and he stood up.
Shi Boren sucked on an ice cream cone, wearing a straw hat and a short-sleeved shirt adorned with palm trees, as if he were dressed for a Hawaiian vacation. He squatted down, jiggling his foot.
Gan Yizu pulled Shi Boren to his feet, grinning as he greeted, "Sis Ning."
Chu Yuening put her mobile phone back in her bag, surprised. "You don't have any cases today?"
Zhou Fengxu was about to speak but was interrupted by the ice cream-sucking Shi Boren. "Thanks to you, the case at Zhonggang City wrapped up quickly. We've had a couple of peaceful days. Nothing major happened, so we're on vacation."
Gan Yizu nodded vigorously in agreement. "Yeah, nothing big."
"Did you just go out?" Zhou Fengxu smiled at Chu Yi, a greeting, before his gaze returned to the girl beside him. He noticed the lingering surprise and bewilderment on her fair face.
Unable to resist, he reached out, gently rubbing her cheek with his thumb, his smile deepening. "You're so surprised, you could swallow an egg. We didn't keep you waiting long."
Relieved, Chu Yuening's brows lifted, and her eyes curved into a smile. "I was wondering why you didn't call me."
"We did call, but it didn't connect. I was about to call again when Brother Xu stopped me," Shi Boren explained, enjoying his ice cream. The hot weather caused the cream to slide down the cone. He slurped, swallowing the remaining ice cream.
"Brother Xu said you must have had something important, so he told us not to bother you anymore..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Zhou Fengxu playfully kicked his shoe. The young man instinctively brushed the back of his head, making sure his hair was still in place. He shook his head and said, "Food can't even shut your mouth."
"Indeed. Oh, Ning Ning," Shi Boren suddenly chuckled and leaned towards Chu Yuening, whispering, "When Brother Xu went out, he even used hair gel specifically. Did you notice the texture in his hair? He meticulously styled each strand."
"Back then, Brother Xu hated grooming. If I spent time grooming, he'd say I was delaying our departure, that it was troublesome. I never thought he would use hair gel today."
Chu Yuening led the way to the apartment, with Zhou Fengxu following behind. Curious, she glanced back at him.
