    Chapter 15 Confession

"Xiao Xiao, Brother Sheng, what's going on?"

Ye Changyuan arrived late, pushing his way through the crowd.

Ye Xiaoxiao reassured him, "Brother Yuan, you take care of the tables and chairs. Fourth Brother and I are heading to the police station. We're okay, just going to help with the testimony."

Ye Changyuan: "Then I'll pack up and come find you."

Making money is the last thing on our minds now; safety comes first.

    Ye Xiaoxiao nodded.

Lu Hanchuan asked, "Should we take a car?"

    Ye Xiaoxiao was silent.

    Han Xing was shocked!

Ye Xiaoxiao was still trying to figure out who these two were. How could they take a car? The space is too cramped; they'd be found out in no time.

"It's pretty close, just a short walk."

    She tried to be vague.

That pretty boy just called him 'Brother Lu,' and with the surname Lu in the compound...

Lu Hanchuan nodded, "Then let's walk together then."

He nudged Han Xing, "Go tell Xiao Li."

    Han Xing: "Uh... okay."

    He left, puzzled.

Ye Changsheng walked next to Ye Xiaoxiao, who walked beside Lu Hanchuan.

The three of them walked in silence.

Ye Changsheng was curious about who this person was; it seemed he knew Xiao Xiao.

Then... could this person take Xiao Xiao with him?

Ye Xiaoxiao was racking her brain trying to remember the plot of that novel.

Why hadn't she memorized the whole book back then?

    Now she regretted it.

At the police station, the matter was quickly cleared up.

Zhang Laowu, Zhang Guimei's brother, had come today specifically to cause trouble for Ye Xiaoxiao and the others.

This behavior was particularly egregious, especially with the national crackdown on black and evil forces, and Lu Hanchuan's involvement.

Zhang Laowu and these accomplices are definitely going to jail.

They also had to compensate the beaten brother for his medical expenses and cover all future treatment costs.

Zhang Guimei is also responsible and will have to spend a few days in custody even if she doesn’t go to jail.

Ye Xiaoxiao was fairly satisfied with the outcome of the case.

After leaving the police station, she said to Lu Hanchuan, "Thanks for helping us out."

Han Xing was waiting at the front door.

As soon as he saw them come out, he immediately approached, first looking at Ye Xiaoxiao.

"You’re Hao Xiaoxiao, right? From our neighborhood compound. I’ve heard Jianwen talk about you. What are you doing here?"

Han Xing’s words revealed important information to Ye Xiaoxiao.

They knew each other, but not well!

So she could easily act like she didn’t know him.

Just then, Ye Changyuan also ran over, "Xiao Xiao, are you finished?"

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Fourth Brother, Brother Yuan, I have something to discuss with these two guys."

Ye Changsheng: "We’ll be over there waiting for you."

    Ye Xiaoxiao nodded.

Ye Changyuan, curious, pulled Ye Changsheng aside to ask what had happened.

Ye Xiaoxiao looked at the two men in front of her: "Do you know Xu Jianwen?"

She was familiar with Xu Jianwen.

The main male character in the story.

Since this was a female-centric novel, the male lead’s character inevitably had some flaws, like being aloof and overly concerned with appearances, but he would definitely change because of the female lead, and they would end up happily together.

"Not exactly friends..." Han Xing rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

Although they were all children from the compound, they were two years older than Xu Jianwen’s group, with different experiences and perspectives, so they naturally didn’t hang out together.

They’d bump into each other now and then and chat.

Hearing this answer, Ye Xiaoxiao was relieved.

"My name’s Ye Xiaoxiao now. Seventeen years ago, my mother and Mrs. Hao were stationed at the military base together. During childbirth, they got caught in a local rainstorm disaster and ended up swapping babies.

A month ago, the Hao family’s real child returned to their home in the capital, so naturally, I should return to my own home."

Ye Xiaoxiao summed it up quickly.

Han Xing was dumbfounded. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

Even movies don’t have such a complicated plot.

Han Xing was still confused, "So... you’re not going back to the capital? What about Xu Jianwen? You’re his fiancée, doesn’t he care?"

Ye Xiaoxiao was delighted inside. She’d been waiting for this moment.

    She’d been hoping he’d ask.

What a perfect chance to distance myself!

"That's the fiancé chosen by the Hao family. Since Hao Yanyan has returned home, the fiancé naturally belongs to her and has nothing to do with me."

Ye Xiaoxiao's voice was soft, clear, and pleasant.

As she spoke, there was a hint of mischief in her eyes, like a clever little fox.

Lu Hanchuan noticed her subtle gestures, sensing there was more to this than met the eye.

At least half of what she just said was probably a lie.

And although Ye Xiaoxiao looked regretful, he couldn't shake the feeling that the young girl was... low-key thrilled.

    "Then you... you..."

Han Xing continued to fidget awkwardly, unsure of what to say.

Should he comfort her? She didn’t seem all that upset.

Give advice? They weren’t exactly close.

"Anyway, I want to thank you both for your concern. I don't even know your names yet."

Ye Xiaoxiao smiled sweetly, her eyes curving into crescents.

Han Xing awkwardly avoided the young girl's piercing eyes, "I'm Han Xing, and this is Lu Hanchuan."

    Ye Xiaoxiao's eyes widened.

    Han Xing... Lu Hanchuan!

    No way!

I thought they were nobodies, but they’re actually big deals.

These two were the heavy hitters in the compound, though they weren't mentioned much in the story, they were nothing like the background characters of the Ye family.

Until the end of the novel, the male and female leads were still trying to suck up to Han Xing, a real estate tycoon in the capital, for some business collaborations.

Lu Hanchuan, on the other hand, was even more of a mystery.

All that was known was that he was a force to be reckoned with in the compound, and even the most arrogant second-generation heirs had to bow to him.

In the book, he was even nicknamed the King of Hell—a title that spoke volumes.

Lu Hanchuan smirked, amused by the young girl's reaction, "Oh? Are we really that well-known?"

Ye Xiaoxiao nodded enthusiastically, "Very famous."

Han Xing chuckled self-deprecatingly, "Hahaha, I’m sure it’s not a good one."

Lu Hanchuan: "Where are you living now? What are your plans next?"

He didn't believe that someone who had fallen from grace wouldn't feel a sense of loss, but so far, Ye Xiaoxiao had been way too composed.

"I’m staying with the Ye family in Baichuan Village. For now, I’m just focusing on studying and preparing for next year’s college entrance exam."

Ye Xiaoxiao felt a bit puzzled. Didn’t they say they weren’t close?

Why did Lu Hanchuan seem so concerned about her?

Could he have had some other connection with the original owner?

This thought made her a bit nervous.

    Lu Hanchuan didn’t press further.

Instead, he pulled out a pen and paper, wrote something down, and handed it to her.

Ye Xiaoxiao took it and was surprised to see an address and a phone number.

The address was quite far, and finding a place to make a call in this era wasn’t easy.

In the town, only the post office and the supply and marketing cooperative had public phones available.

Lu Hanchuan said, “If you need help, give me a call.”

    Ye Xiaoxiao replied, “Thank you.”

Lu Hanchuan and Han Xing had other business to take care of and didn’t plan to stay in Songlin Town.

After giving her the phone number, Lu Hanchuan and Han Xing got into the car and left.

In the car, Han Xing finally asked the question that had been on his mind.

“Brother Lu, something seems off with you.”

Lu Hanchuan ignored him, reverting to his usual aloofness, “Mind your own business, or head back to Beijing.”

    Han Xing: “...”
