They went outside and flagged down a cab. Ye Xiaoxiao asked the driver where the best hotel nearby was.

"Hotels around here? There's a new Huating Hotel on the next street. It’s super fancy, but it’s not cheap—staying one night costs around seventy or eighty yuan, like ten or twelve bucks."

The taxi driver had dropped someone off there before—the lobby was super posh.

Ye Xiaoxiao said, "Let’s go there."

She was treating this trip like a vacation, and she wasn’t about to rough it.

When they arrived, the crystal chandeliers and marble floors in the lobby told her she’d picked the right place.

Compared to that dumpy motel earlier, this place felt like a totally different world.

Without hesitation, Ye Xiaoxiao went ahead and booked a luxury suite for five nights.

Ye Yijia’s one-month-old celebration was happening soon too, though probably just a small get-together with family and friends in Shen City. Ye Xiaoxiao planned to stay long enough to attend her little niece’s celebration before leaving.

Once inside the room, she found everything she needed.

There was a private bathroom with a luxurious bathtub.

The room also came with a color TV and a telephone.

It wasn’t as nice as modern hotels from the 21st century, but after the earlier letdown, she wasn’t gonna fuss.

This was paradise!

Ye Xiaoxiao picked a room and walked in, then face-planted onto the soft bed.

After resting for a bit, she started feeling like something didn’t add up.

Her second sister-in-law was a total neat freak and kind of picky.

Since she was currently recovering after childbirth (postpartum confinement), it meant the accommodations weren’t arranged by her.

Judging by Zhang Yuexia’s behavior, she must have been the one who booked the rooms.

Zhang Yuexia was way too cheap—who even paid for this?

Unable to figure it out, Ye Xiaoxiao gave up trying to guess and headed to take a shower and change.

Then she used the hotel phone to call Song Guangjing.

He had been worried when she left, so she wanted to let him know she was okay.

As for Lu Hanchuan, he was totally unreachable.

She didn’t waste her time even trying.

“Master, I’ve made it to Shen City. I’ve already eaten, and now I’m resting at the hotel.”

Song Guangjing replied, “Good. Enjoy yourself there—no rush to come back to the hospital.”

Ye Xiaoxiao said, “I’ll bring you some local goodies when I return.”

Song Guangjing chimed in happily, saying he’d wait for her.

After hanging up, Ye Xiaoxiao went to rest.

The next day, after having breakfast at the hotel, she told Duan Hong to feel free to relax around the area while she visited Shen Qiuyu.

Duan Hong still wouldn’t go off on her own. "My job is to keep you safe. How can I go off and do my own thing?"

"It’s no big deal. I’m not in any danger right now."

Duan Hong: "Regular folks can’t predict danger ahead of time."

"I was just worried you might get bored."

"I won’t."

And that was that.

Since Duan Hong insisted on tagging along, Ye Xiaoxiao and Duan Hong went to her second brother’s house together.

Shen Qiuyu was eating her second brunch when Xiao Xiao and the others arrived. She greeted them, "Have you had breakfast? Want to grab a bite with me?"

Ye Xiaoxiao: "We already had breakfast."

Shen Qiuyu: "What’d you eat? How was your sleep last night?"

"Heh... just the usual," Ye Xiaoxiao said with a laugh. "I slept very well last night."

She just didn’t stay at the hotel they’d booked, that’s all.

Shen Qiuyu felt reassured by this answer.

"As long as you slept well."

Ye Xiaoxiao spent some time playing with her niece.

Babies change overnight, and the young girl was becoming more and more adorable.

Ye Yijia got all her parents’ best features—her nose, eyes, and mouth were all very pretty.

"Sis-in-law, what’s the plan for Jiajia’s one-month party?"

Shen Qiuyu: "Nothing too fancy. When your brother comes back, whoever’s in town can come by."

Shen Qiuyu understood Ye Changan well. "He’s using his vacation days, so he can stay longer each time."

"Look, this is the gold locket from Changning, and the gold bracelet from Xiao Xiao. Earlier, Xiao Xiao also sent over tons of formula and baby clothes."

Ye Changan: "Is Xiao Xiao here?"

Shen Qiuyu: "She's been here for a few days. She comes to keep me company during the day and has also gone out with her friend.

Our place is kinda small, so I got them a room nearby, just across the street. It’s convenient to come over.

By the way... go get Xiao Xiao for dinner soon. If you wait too long, I'm afraid they might eat out."

Ye Changan agreed, "Alright, I'll go over soon."

However, when Ye Changan went to find her at the address Shen Qiuyu provided, he couldn't find Ye Xiaoxiao.

To be honest, he also spent a while searching for The Youth Inn Shen Qiuyu mentioned—the sign was small, and the entrance wasn’t obvious. You’d miss it unless you were really looking.

After entering, the front desk couldn’t find Ye Xiaoxiao in their recent check-ins either.

Ye Changan didn’t think Ye Xiaoxiao would vanish for no reason.

Besides, according to Qiuyu, Xiao Xiao was with a bodyguard, so nothing should’ve gone wrong.

So, Ye Changan returned home first.

"Did you find Xiao Xiao?"

Ye Changan: "She probably went out. She wasn’t at the inn you mentioned."

Shen Qiuyu thought men were so useless with stuff like this. "Didn’t you ask the front desk?"

Ye Changan: "...I forgot."

If Shen Qiuyu weren’t recovering from childbirth, she’d have gone looking herself. "Let’s wait then. If Xiao Xiao isn’t out, she’ll probably come over before dinner."

Shen Qiuyu was right. Before long, Ye Xiaoxiao and Duan Hong showed up with a bag of fried chicken wings.

"Second Brother!"

Ye Xiaoxiao was thrilled to see Ye Changan.

Ye Changan opened his arms for a hug. "How’s married life? That Lu guy treating you right?"

Shen Qiuyu: "The Youth Inn. I think that’s what Sister-in-law said it was called. Was it the wrong place?"

Ye Xiaoxiao had long forgotten the name of that dump.

Seeing no way to hide it, she glanced up at Ye Changan.

Ye Changan: "I didn’t go to the wrong place. Maybe we just missed each other. Judging by the chicken wings, she probably wasn’t nearby."

Ye Xiaoxiao nodded. "Lemme wash my hands first, then I’ll plate these up."

While washing her hands, Ye Changan followed her to the kitchen.
