    **Chapter 332: Kids' Favorite**

Ye Changqing said, "You guys are still young. Seize the chance to try new things now, so you won’t regret it later."

Ye Lian said, "Since even Changqing and Auntie feel that way, of course I’ll support him."

Li Guilan and Ye Jianye didn’t overthink it—they just wanted their kids to live well.

The only thing bugging the old couple now was their son’s marriage.

Ye Changyuan was still in the military, so there was no rush for him.

But Ye Changjun, who stayed back home, hadn’t found a wife yet, and that wasn’t right.

He had a stable job now and sent money back home every month.

But finding a wife was still up in the air. Even if one or two prospects looked good, they’d bail when they heard he was from Baishi Village.

And after his last blind date went south, Ye Changjun’s self-esteem took a hit. He lost any interest in getting married.

Now that everyone was together, Li Guilan and her husband were busy setting Ye Changjun up.

Miao Cuifang glanced at Ye Changjun sitting quietly in the corner. The boy was good-looking but too quiet—that won’t fly.

As family matriarchs, Miao Cuifang and Ye Lian both cared deeply about Ye Changjun’s future.

Ye Lian said, "Changjun, what kind of girl do you like? Your big sister can look out for you in town. With how well-off our family is, we don’t need to worry about finding you a bride.

Even if she doesn’t want to live in Baishi Village, you all work in the county now—you could buy a place in the city."

Ye Changqing even offered, "Don’t sweat the house. If you get married, I’ll give you one."

Ye Changjun muttered, "...There’s no one suitable yet."

Li Guilan said, "Suitable or not, you’ve got to put yourself out there. Are there any girls at your job? Talk to them more—you might hit it off."

Parents always thought that way, as if forgetting their own awkward blind dates when they were young.

Ye Changjun’s face burned with embarrassment. He abruptly stood up.

"I’m going out for a walk."

Li Guilan sighed, "See? Every time we bring this up, he shuts down."

Ye Changqing shook his head. "Forget it. He’ll come around eventually."

    Li Guilan: "I hope so."

    ...

Over on her side, Ye Xiaoxiao had already picked out books for the kids—not just textbooks, but fun books they liked too.

Xiaohu, that little troublemaker, grabbed a pile of comic books.

"Xiaohu, you’re slacking on studying," Ye Xiaoxiao teased, eyeing the comics. How’s the kid supposed to focus with these around?

Xiaohu replied, "But Auntie, these are the only ones with pictures I get."

Ye Xiaoxiao fell silent for a moment.

Ye Changsheng walked over. "You can only take one book with you when you go. I’ll mail the rest to you over time—if your grades are good, you’ll keep getting them. If they drop, though, no more books."

Ye Xiaoxiao gave Ye Changsheng a thumbs-up.

    Fourth brother’s got skills.

Xiaohu felt like his world was crumbling—this little uncle had too many tricks!

Ye Xiaoxiao checked the other kids’ books and found everything in order.

She even gave each kid a puzzle set to train their brains.

Zhang Xue watched as box after box was carried out of the bookstore.

"Honestly, they won’t finish these in years."

"Books don’t spoil on the shelf. These won’t go bad," said Ye Changsheng.

Zhang Xue remembered how the Ye family still kept the children’s old textbooks from when they were small—all carefully preserved. The Ye family never treated books carelessly.

By the time they left the bookstore, it was already noon.

"Skip lunch at home today," Ye Xiaoxiao suggested. "I’ll take you all to KFC."

    "What...?"

"It’s a fast-food chain. They’re rare now, just in big cities—but soon they’ll be everywhere in China."

Ye Xiaoxiao waved her hands for emphasis.

"Well, I’ve gotta check this out," Zhang Xue laughed.

KFC was the kids’ go-to. Since it wasn’t a weekend, the place was pretty empty.

On weekends, you’d see 400–500 people lined up outside, and there wouldn’t be a seat inside.

KFC wasn’t dirt cheap back then, but with all the hype, business boomed.

Most diners were adults, so a big group like Ye Xiaoxiao’s wasn’t unusual.

Ye Xiaoxiao went all out, ordering stacks of everything on the menu.

They even offered kid combos and date meals—the business model was way ahead of its time.

Ye Xiaoxiao was curious if KFC still tasted the same. She hadn’t eaten it in ages.

"It’s fried chicken, but not like ours," Zhang Xue said after a bite.

Xiaohu held up a piece of original recipe chicken.

    "Auntie, this is amazing!"

"Stick around, and I’ll buy you this daily."

Xiaohu thought for a second. "Nah. I miss home—Grandpa and Grandma are waiting."

"Hit the books, and someday you can move them here." Ye Changsheng jumped in, nudging the kid toward studying.

Xiaohu, the slacker, actually nodded earnestly, "I will study hard!"

Yunduo and Yunshuang, the two girls, ate politely.

Ye Baocheng and Ye Baoyuan, the two mischievous boys, had no table manners whatsoever, wolfing down their food and too busy to talk.

Lu Hanchuan brought the Cokes over and passed a glass to Xiaoxiao.

It was his first time here too. Although he knew a Western-style restaurant had opened here long ago, he never thought much of Western food, so he hadn't come until now.

"How did you find this place?"

Ye Xiaoxiao: "I saw it when I passed by."

Even though the sign was a bit different, how could she miss that it was KFC?

Zhang Xue: "The taste is good, but such a small piece of meat costs two-fifty—that's too expensive."

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Because there aren't many stores yet. If you come in the afternoon at this price, the shop might be sold out."

Zhang Xue couldn't help but tsk—were people in the capital really this wealthy?

What Zhang Xue didn't know was that many working young people pinched pennies to afford a meal here.

"Sister, I need to use the restroom."

After finishing a cup of cola, Yunshuang whispered to Yunduo.

"There's a restroom just around the corner outside the store. I'll take you."

Ye Xiaoxiao was about to stand up when Zhang Xue beat her to it, "I'll go. I need to wash my hands anyway."

"Alright, the restroom is right there—you can't miss it once you're outside." Ye Xiaoxiao pointed in the direction, which wasn't far and easy to find.

Zhang Xue led Yunshuang there and found an empty stall for her to do her business.

The city had proper plumbing, and even though Zhang Xue had never used it before, she'd gotten used to them during her stay at Ye Changning's house.

While Yunshuang was in the restroom, Zhang Xue waited by the sink outside.

She never expected to bump into someone she knew in a public restroom.
