    Chapter 113 Upperclassman

"Jiaojiao, I need to talk to you about something important."

Fang Kaixuan popped up out of nowhere and blocked Wang Jiao's path.

The other day at the police station, Wang Jiao had a one-on-one conversation with Fang Kaixuan's mother.

The content of their conversation was unknown to others, but it probably wasn’t pleasant.

Wang Jiao gave him the cold shoulder when she saw Fang Kaixuan.

"I already told your mom everything. Why are you still bothering me?"

Fang Kaixuan tried to pull Wang Jiao: "Jiaojiao, there are too many people here. Let’s talk somewhere else."

Wang Jiao, however, turned away, "No way, I’m not talking."

    Fang Kaixuan looked pitiful.

Seeing he wasn’t going to leave, Wang Jiao reluctantly said, "Alright, let’s go, but my mind’s made up. Don’t come looking for me again."

The two left the reading club and headed to a quieter spot.

Xia Li and the others were all ears, watching them go.

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Let’s go, we should get inside."

The reading club was filled with students from Jinghua University, a group of young men and women standing by the lake, making for a picturesque scene.

Many were holding their usual reads.

Ye Xiaoxiao also had a book in her backpack, a collection of inspiring works by great leaders.

If she needed to share, she was ready.

Otherwise, apart from medical books, all she could think of were the web novels she’d read, some of which were pretty steamy.

    No way she’d share those!

He Jing was hanging out with her friends.

Ye Xiaoxiao saw her laughing and talking with a guy.

"Is He Jing getting into a relationship?"

Tang Xiuxiu: "Winter is suitable for falling in love."

    Ye Xiaoxiao: "Why?"

Tang Xiuxiu: "You can keep each other warm by hugging."

    Ye Xiaoxiao: "..."

That was probably a lame joke.

More than ten minutes later, Wang Jiao returned to the reading club.

Her mental state seemed happier than before.

"I’ve decided to give him another shot."

Before anyone could even ask, Wang Jiao jumped in.

Xia Li and Li Meiru chimed in together, "But what if his mom doesn’t approve?"

Wang Jiao shrugged, "I’m dating Fang Kaixuan, not his mom. We’re young—let’s just enjoy ourselves."

Wang Jiao’s attitude was way ahead of her time.

She had a self-centered, almost hedonistic optimism, so this kind of thing was right up her alley.

Her roommates had no choice but to respect her decision.

Wang Jiao glanced at her roommates’ silent faces, pleased, taking it as their approval.

    The reading session kicked off.

The Literature Club members took turns reading excerpts from books, sharing favorite poems, and presenting their own works.

Their voices ebbed and flowed, captivating the audience.

One upperclassman even treated everyone to a harmonica performance.

Her white dress seemed almost ethereal in the sunlight.

"That upperclassman was a big deal last year."

Tang Xiuxiao nudged Ye Xiaoxiao, "She used to be the campus belle, but now it’s you."

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Campus belle? More like campus clown."

Tang Xiuxiao: "Stop selling yourself short. A lot of people in our college have been asking about you."

Ye Xiaoxiao was caught off guard.

Tang Xiuxiao shrugged, "But I let them know you’re taken..."

Even so, a lot of them aren’t giving up—probably waiting for you to break up.

    Ye Xiaoxiao: "Seriously?"

Is this part of the whole 'unattainable crush' thing?

Tang Xiuxiao pinched Ye Xiaoxiao’s cheek, "You have no idea how much your face drives people crazy. Thank goodness your boyfriend’s just as hot, or I’d be heartbroken."

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Are you one of those fangirls?"

Only happy when there’s drama to enjoy.

    Tang Xiuxiao looked completely confused.

As the performance wrapped up, the upperclassman stepped down from the lakeside stage.

She stopped right in front of Ye Xiaoxiao and the group.

    "Xiuxiao, it’s been a while."

    Ye Xiaoxiao was speechless.

No wonder she’s so familiar, turns out she’s an acquaintance.

Tang Xiuxiu pouted, "We just saw each other last week, didn’t we?"

Lin Yue chuckled awkwardly, "You’re such a joker."

Then Lin Yue turned to Ye Xiaoxiao, "And who’s this gorgeous junior?"

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Hello, I’m Ye Xiaoxiao."

Lin Yue: "Hello! I’m Lin Yue. You’re really pretty, junior."

    Tang Xiuxiu rolled her eyes.

Stop acting like you don’t know—she’s probably already dug up everything about Ye Xiaoxiao.

Lin Yue has always been competitive, trying to one-up her in everything since they were kids. Now that she sees Ye Xiaoxiao’s beauty—something she can’t top—she’s probably fuming.

Lin Yue kept talking, "Are you in the medical school too, junior?"

    Ye Xiaoxiao: "Yes."

Lin Yue sensed her coldness but kept pushing, rambling on and on.

"I heard you’re studying traditional Chinese medicine. It’s a niche field, and job prospects aren’t great. If you’re unsure about your career path, let me know. My mom’s the chief physician at Beijing’s First Hospital."

Ye Xiaoxiao stared at this senior she’d just met, baffled by how forward she was.

Ye Xiaoxiao smiled, "I doubt I’ll need your help, senior. I’m thinking of going back to the village to work as a vet."

    Lin Yue blinked, "A vet?"

Ye Xiaoxiao deadpanned, "Yeah, I’ve done some research on sow postpartum care."

Tang Xiuxiu, standing beside her, burst out laughing.

Lin Yue finally caught on that she was being teased.

    "You’re quite the character, junior..."

Tang Xiuxiu grabbed Ye Xiaoxiao’s hand, "Senior Lin Yue, we’ve got things to do. We’re heading out."

"Where are you off to? Let’s grab a bite later."

Tang Xiuxiu waved without turning around, "Maybe next time!"

Once they were in a corner, Tang Xiuxiu finally let out a sigh of relief.

"If Lin Yue latches onto us, we’ll never get away."

Ye Xiaoxiao glanced back, "Why do I get the feeling you’re scared of her?"

Tang Xiuxiu shrugged, "You don’t get it. Lin Yue’s always been competitive, but if she can’t beat me at something, she loses it. If I even raised my voice, she’d tattle to my parents, twisting the story, and I’d get scolded."

Ye Xiaoxiao: "That’s way over the line."

Tang Xiuxiu: "Of all people, I’ve been stuck with her from elementary school all the way to college."

Even someone like Tang Xiuxiu would steer clear of her, which shows that Lin Yue is quite difficult to deal with.

Ye Xiaoxiao noticed the eagerness and boasting in the other party's demeanor and kept it in mind, knowing she’d likely run into this senior again.

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Is she also from med school?"

Tang Xiuxiu: "Yes, you could tell from her bragging about her hospital connections. She’ll probably land a spot at the First Hospital right after graduation."

    Ye Xiaoxiao nodded in understanding.

    She’s got connections at home.
