Chapter 248: Playing Matchmaker

Although Bai Mengan was joking, Ye Xiaoxiao took it seriously.

"I’ll help you look around. What kind of person do you like?"

Su Tong sat nearby, smiling warmly. "Fill me in too. Let me know what you're looking for—maybe I’ve got someone in mind."

Bai Mengan really started listing what she wanted. Among close friends, there was no need to feel shy.

"First, he can't be too short—at least 1.8 meters tall. Second, he shouldn’t be too unattractive—at least average-looking, preferably handsome.

Lastly! And most importantly. He must be easygoing. Since my temper is already bad enough, my boyfriend needs to be patient."

Su Tong rested her chin on her hand. "Your standards seem low, but they’re actually quite high. That explains why you’re single."

Bai Mengan sighed. "I’m just not into the guys at my workplace. My parents keep dragging me to blind dates, but those men are too opportunistic.

They meet me in the morning and are ready to propose by lunchtime. It’s a nightmare."

Ye Xiaoxiao rubbed her chin thoughtfully. "I think our class president fits your criteria, but he’s also going abroad. You’d barely cross paths."

Bai Mengan shrugged. "Big deal! Unless he plans to marry a foreigner and settle down overseas, he’ll have to come back eventually."

Ye Xiaoxiao smiled, her dimples showing.

"Actually, perfect! I need to deliver some documents to the school. Wanna tag along?"

Bai Mengan: "Sure!"

Lin Zhilu was stunned. "Wait, you’re serious? Just like that?"

Bai Mengan smirked. "Why not, kid?"

Lin Zhilu huffed. "Who are you calling ‘kid’? You’re the worst."

Bai Mengan teased, "You *are* the kid. And just so you know, I’m not looking for someone like you."

Lin Zhilu retorted, "I’m not done growing!"

Ye Xiaoxiao watched their bickering, afraid they’d start a fight.

"Alright, alright. Anyway, I’m leaving soon, so don’t worry too much. We’ll keep texting/calling.

If you’re free, you can come with me to deliver the documents. But don’t blab about this—I haven’t mentioned the matchmaking to the class president yet."

Bai Mengan grinned. "Good—less pressure. If he knew in advance, he’d be prepared. If I don’t like him, we’ll pretend it never happened."

Su Tong nodded. "Then let’s all go and check out the campus vibe at Jinghua University."

Ye Xiaoxiao picked up her folder. "Let’s roll. I’ve got the car."

On their way out, Ye Xiaoxiao called Chu Yunxiao.

Chu Yunxiao said he was on his way to campus too.

"Let’s roll."

Ye Xiaoxiao brought a few friends to Jinghua University.

They waited at the school gate for a while before Chu Yunxiao showed up.

Su Tong nudged Bai Mengan as she watched the guy walking over from afar. "Not bad at all, Xiao Xiao's class monitor is quite handsome. Plus, he's studying medicine—he’s probably not the irritable type."

Bai Mengan was also sizing up Chu Yunxiao. He was seriously good-looking.

Having grown up in a military compound, the boys she played with all had a rough-around-the-edges vibe, so she preferred gentle types.

"These are my friends. They wanted to take a look around the campus."

Ye Xiaoxiao introduced everyone to Chu Yunxiao.

Chu Yunxiao was cool with it. After all, it was vacation, and Jinghua’s campus was a cool spot to hang out.

"Nice to meet you all."

Chu Yunxiao greeted them with a smile.

"Nice to meet you too." Bai Mengan beamed. "It’s baking out here. Weren’t you guys delivering something? Let’s hurry inside."

Chu Yunxiao found the girl’s smile and gaze kinda weird but didn’t think much of it.

"Let’s go in." Holding a file folder, Chu Yunxiao turned to Ye Xiaoxiao. "I called Professor Sun earlier. He’s in his office—we can head straight there."

Ye Xiaoxiao: "Works for me."

Behind them, Su Tong whispered to Bai Mengan, "Dial it back."

Bai Mengan blinked. "I *am* holding back. I didn’t even rush over to introduce myself. I’m being very well-behaved."

Su Tong couldn’t help but marvel at Bai Mengan’s boldness.

While Ye Xiaoxiao and Chu Yunxiao went into the office to deliver the documents, the other three waited outside.

Lin Zhilu scoffed. "I think he’s nothing special."

Bai Mengan patted his head affectionately. "Don’t get salty. I’m sure plenty of people are into your type. Too bad you’re not my type."

Lin Zhilu angrily shook off her hand. "Save it."

Inside the office.

Sun Zhengyao lit up when he saw them. "Great, I’ll submit the documents to the school right away. I’m glad you two are willing to be exchange students this time. If you encounter any difficulties, feel free to reach out."

Chu Yunxiao: "We’re not expecting problems, though adjusting might take some time."

Sun Zhengyao: "That’s to be expected. But the school has arranged for seniors there to show you the ropes."

Jinghua University was no stranger to exchange programs, but this year had the highest number of participants.

Just the med school was sending five, plus others from different departments, totaling over twenty.

After a quick talk with Sun Zhengyao, Ye Xiaoxiao and Chu Yunxiao left the office.

Bai Mengan, who had been peering out the window, whirled around when Ye Xiaoxiao emerged. "Finally! What’s next, Xiao Xiao? Show us around campus."

Ye Xiaoxiao asked Chu Yunxiao, "Monitor, anything up? Wanna walk together?"

Chu Yunxiao replied, "Not really. But it's so hot now. How about the lakeside?"

Ye Xiaoxiao then glanced at Bai Mengan, who was practically bouncing with excitement.

She didn't look like someone who'd just struck out on a date.

"Alright, let's head to the lake then."

Along the way, Ye Xiaoxiao tried to keep making small talk, and Chu Yunxiao played along nicely.

At one point, he asked which schools Ye Xiaoxiao's friends attended.

Apart from Bai Mengan, who worked in a performance troupe in the capital, the other two were studying in other cities and had only returned for summer vacation.

Chu Yunxiao was surprised that the vivacious Bai Mengan was actually an artist—and even played the piano.

Having learned piano as a child himself, Chu Yunxiao found they had things in common as they chatted about music.

Ye Xiaoxiao quietly fell back and walked alongside Su Tong.

Su Tong whispered, "I think this might work out. Bai Mengan is such a sucker for good looks."

Ye Xiaoxiao was worried Bai Mengan might encounter gold-diggers or players, so it was good for her to meet other men now.

Even if nothing came of it, it would divert Bai Mengan's attention and prevent her from doubling down on a bad bet.

Ye Xiaoxiao asked, "You can tell after just one meeting?"

Su Tong replied, "They have good chemistry."

The group sat by the lake for a while before grabbing lunch at a nearby place around noon.
