Chapter 264: Overconfidence
by 一盞紅爐Chapter 264 Brimming with Confidence
Bai Mengan and Chu Yunxiao started dating.
By the time Ye Xiaoxiao heard the news, the semester had already begun.
Bai Mengan and Chu Yunxiao came to school together and stopped by to see Ye Xiaoxiao.
"I came in person to tell you, to show respect."
Ye Xiaoxiao: "Aren't you gonna tell me the details?"
Bai Mengan blushed shyly, "Not much to tell. He brought me a gift, I bought him dinner, and then he confessed."
Ye Xiaoxiao: "So it was the class president who made the first move."
Bai Mengan: "I didn’t expect it either. I’m just so happy. Xiao Xiao, you’re pretty much the matchmaker. When we get married, you get the best seat."
This girl was really getting way ahead of herself.
Ye Xiaoxiao withdrew her hand, "Go hang out with your boyfriend. I need to check on the dorm too."
Bai Mengan: "Don’t think I’m ditching friends for a guy—you’re the one telling me to go."
Ye Xiaoxiao shooed her away, as she had her own matters to attend to.
The dorm looked just as it had before. Her old bed was still there after two years, though nothing was placed on it.
Aside from Li Meiru and Wang Jiao, everyone else in the dorm was present.
When Ye Xiaoxiao pushed the door open, some didn’t notice at first.
Finally, Tang Xiuxiu shouted, "Xiao Xiao!"
Xia Li ran up and hugged Ye Xiaoxiao, "You’re really back! I almost didn’t recognize you!"
Ye Xiaoxiao: "It’s not that exaggerated. I’m just a little taller, and my hair’s a bit longer."
Xia Li touched Ye Xiaoxiao’s face, "And prettier too."
Ye Xiaoxiao was used to it by now. It seemed that even though the plot had changed, her "white moonlight" aura remained intact.
Over the past two years, she hadn’t gone awkward—instead, she’d only become more beautiful.
"Sit down! When did you get back? How was abroad? What did you all study over there?"
When it was first announced that two exchange students would be selected from the Traditional Chinese Medicine class, there was lots of arguing in the department.
Most people felt there was no need for TCM students to go abroad for exchange.
But the TCM professors were all top experts, and many were adjunct professors—even the principal couldn’t afford to offend them.
In the end, it was Sun Zhengyao who argued that TCM also included surgical aspects, and going abroad would not only promote cultural exchange but also improve their medical skills.
That finally convinced most people.
Ye Xiaoxiao told them about her experiences from abroad.
"How nice... I wonder if I'll ever have the chance to go abroad in my lifetime."
Ye Xiaoxiao: "You definitely will!"
Twenty years from now, traveling abroad will become commonplace, with tour groups readily available.
"Fill me in on campus news too. I want to hear."
If I don’t hear now, I’ll soon be off for internships and have even fewer chances to catch up on school happenings.
When it came to the juiciest campus gossip, Xia Li was the most well-informed.
She picked out a few interesting stories to share.
"Our school held some kind of music competition and ended up picking a school beauty queen, but I don’t think she’s as pretty as you.
Xiaoxiao, you should take a stroll around campus later and let those green underclassmen get a glimpse of true beauty."
Ye Xiaoxiao blinked, her long, delicate lashes fluttering, her expression playfully innocent.
"Xia Li, let the underclassmen have their moment."
Besides, while Ye Xiaoxiao knew she was attractive, she didn’t believe looks were the only measure of a person.
Personality and smarts were far more important.
Even someone good-looking could lose appeal if they were rude or tacky.
"True, we’re about to graduate anyway—no point competing with the younger crowd."
Xia Li continued, "There’s news about our dorm too."
She pointed at Wang Jiao’s bed.
Ye Xiaoxiao glanced over. "Wang Jiao doesn’t live here anymore?"
Xia Li: "She moved out two semesters ago and never came back. Wang Jiao’s gone full-on rebel now, running around with her musician boyfriend and skipping classes.
She even wants to transfer to the art school."
"Did the counselor approve?"
"Even if the counselor did, it wouldn’t matter. The dean would never approve. Her grades are barely scraping by—she doesn’t meet the transfer requirements. It’s a miracle she hasn’t been expelled already."
Ye Xiaoxiao hadn’t expected Wang Jiao to go off the rails this badly.
Her boyfriend might be an artist, but why was Wang Jiao blowing off everything too?
Xia Li shrugged. "Well, we’re about to start internships anyway. As long as she graduates, that’s what matters."
Tang Xiuxiu added grimly, "I’m just afraid Wang Jiao won’t even take the internship seriously. Then she really won’t graduate."
Jinghua University had strict standards for credits and grades—diplomas don’t come easy.
Someone like Wang Jiao might end up with nothing but a certificate of attendance (not a real degree).
No decent company would hire her.
He Jing sighed too, worried about their roommate—and, honestly, herself too.
"I wonder where we'll be assigned for our internships."
Xia Li: "Who cares? It’s definitely going to be in Beijing or the surrounding areas. The conditions might not be ideal, but it won’t be bad either."
"Can't we talk about something more fun?" Ye Xiaoxiao shook Xia Li’s arm. "Have you found a boyfriend yet?"
Xia Li clutched her head. "Don’t even mention it. Is there a curse on me? Why can’t I find anyone?"
Ye Xiaoxiao: "That doesn't make sense."
Xia Li might not have stunning beauty, but she’s a 1980s college grad. A med school grad, no less!
If even someone like her can’t find a boyfriend, what chance do the rest of us have?
Xia Li: "Anyway, there’s just no one. If any of you know anyone decent, introduce them to me."
That got everyone's attention immediately.
They all started recommending their friends and relatives to Xia Li.
Ye Xiaoxiao had just successfully matched a couple and was riding high on her success.
She thought about whether she had anyone else to introduce but was drawing a blank for now.
"Don’t worry. I can ask my boyfriend to help. His unit's full of single guys."
Xia Li thought for a moment, then hugged Ye Xiaoxiao. "I like military personnel. There’s hope for me to find someone.
I’m the only single one left in our dorm. It’s pathetic."
Ye Xiaoxiao wasn’t just humoring her. If Xia Li still hadn’t found a boyfriend after the internship, she really could arrange a blind date for her.
"So you’re the only one left? Does Li Meiru have a boyfriend now?"
Xia Li: "She does. We’ve already had dinner together, but you weren’t there."
Since Li Meiru wasn’t in the dorm, Xia Li lowered her voice. "Her guy is older than us and not a student."
"What about that guy from back home in the military? Did they lose contact?"
Xia Li: "It’s strange. They made such a scene during training, but afterward, they really didn’t stay in touch. But things are fine now. Her guy may not be highly educated, but he treats Li Meiru well."
Ye Xiaoxiao nodded knowingly and didn’t ask further.
After all, Li Meiru wasn’t there, and talking too much might seem like gossiping.
On the first day of the semester, most of the dormmates were around. Ye Xiaoxiao had barely settled in when Li Meiru and Wang Jiao returned.
